Choosing the earrings to suit your face shape

The shape of your face, the length of your hair and even your colouring have a huge impact on what shape and style of earring is best for you.

TIPS:
  • Long faces look good in chandelier -shaped earrings
  • Round and dangling earrings will make a fatter face and chin look thinner
  • Round faces and double chins should stay away from studs or circular clip-ons
  • Short necks become even shorter next to long, dangly earrings that hang to the shoulder.
  • Plain golf-ball-sized hoops suit everyone
  • Don't wear fancy earrings if you want to look professional and relatively serious
  • Diamante studs look like something fake trying to be real. If you go with diamantes, go full on over the top and celebrate it's false origins.

Oval Face:

Most shapes will suit you
Experiment with the latest trends to see what style looks best
Make sure they are in proportion to your head size and body scale

Diamond Face:
Your goal is to choose narrow shapes that add width to your jaw line.

Your best shapes are narrower at the top and wider at the bottom

Choose the following shapes:
Short and wide earrings
Small tear drops and pear shapes
Triangle shapes
Ovals and studs
Avoid long thin earrings

Rectangle Face:

Your goal is to choose earrings that have more width than depth and soft curves rather than angles

Choose the following shapes:

Round buttons
Tear drops
Hoops and curved edged earrings
Ovals
If you have long hair, drops no longer than your chin and with some width too

Oblong Face:

Your goal is to choose earrings have more width than length

Choose the following shapes:
Round, square and fan shape earring
Teardrops
Small hoops
Simple studs and chandelier style earring
3 dimensional style earrings to add fullness
Big earrings
Drops no longer than the chin, better with some width
Avoid flat or thin dangly earrings

Heart Face:

Your goal is to add length to your face and width to your jaw

Choose the following shapes:

Chandeliers that are narrow at the top and wide at the bottom
Teardrop earrings
Rectangle shapes
Triangular earrings that are tapered at the top (the opposite of your face shape)
Oval and circular earrings
Avoid earrings that are the same as your face shape (wide at the top and narrow at the bottom)

Triangle Face:

Your goal is to wear earrings that are longer than they are wide

Choose the following shapes:
Large oval shapes
Small circular earrings
Earrings with curves at the bottom
Avoid triangular shapes or earrings that come to a point

Square Face:

Your goal is to wear earrings longer than they are wide

Choose the following shapes:

Earrings with a round and angular edge
Long drop earrings
Long tear drops
Multi-tiered dangly earrings
Exaggerated earrings
Hoops and curved edges
Studs
Avoid square shapes

Choose the following shapes:

Square, oblong, oval and rectangle drops
Long narrow drops
Squares, oblongs, rectangles work well as do dangling and angular designs
Elongated styles will draw attention down instead of around
Avoid hoop earrings, studs and large chunky earrings they will accentuate your roundness

Top Natural Tips on Stretchmark Removal

Stretch-marks

The main cause of stretch marks is pregnancy, other reasons can be sudden gain or loss in weight, rapid growth, heredity factors, stress and changes in physical conditions.

There are several natural ways to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

1. Potato Juice

Potato juice contains vitamins and minerals that foster growth and restoration of skin cells.
  1. Cut a medium-sized potato into thick slices.
  2. Take one of the potato pieces and rub it gently on the stretch marks for a few minutes. Make sure the liquid from the potato covers the affected area.
  3. Allow the potato juice to dry for some time and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

2. Sugar

Natural white sugar is one of the best natural remedies to get rid of stretch marks. You can use the sugar to exfoliate your skin.
  1. Mix a tablespoon of raw sugar with some almond oil and a few drops of lemon juice. Mix it well and apply it on the stretch marks and other skin areas.
  2. Gently rub the mixture on the skin for at least 10 minutes every day before taking a shower.
  3. Do this for a month or so and watch your stretch marks become lighter.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is effective in the treatment of many skin problems. It has various essential nutrients and active compounds that can be used in the treatment of minor burns, while its healing and soothing properties can be used to get rid of stretch marks. There are a couple of ways to apply it.
  • You can directly rub aloe vera gel on the affected skin area, leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse the skin with lukewarm water.
  • Another option is to make a mixture with one-fourth cup of aloe vera gel, oil from 10 vitamin E capsules and oil from five vitamin A capsules. Rub this mixture onto the skin until fully absorbed. Repeat this process daily.

4. Water

Keeping your body well hydrated helps protect the skin from many kinds of problems. Well-hydrated skin results in regular detoxification of skin pores and restores elasticity, which will help a lot in getting rid of stretch marks. Try to drink one to two glasses of water several times during a day. Experts say a minimum of 10 glasses of water per day is the best way to keep the body hydrated. It will also make your skin soft and help maintain its elasticity. It is advisable to avoid coffee, tea or soda as they can cause dehydration.

5. Lemon Juice

Another simple ways to lessen stretch marks is to use lemon juice. Lemon juice is naturally acidic which helps heal and reduce stretch marks, skin injuries, acne, and other scars.
  • Rub fresh lemon juice gently onto the stretch marks using circular motions. Allow the lemon juice to soak into your skin for at least 10 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
  • Another option is to mix equal quantities of cucumber juice and lemon juice and apply the mixture on the stretch marks.

6. Olive Oil

Olive oil contains a lot of nutrients and antioxidants that help improve various skin problems including stretch marks.
  1. Massage slightly warm pure olive oil into the affected skin area. This will improve the blood circulation and reduce the stretch marks to a great extent.
  2. Leave it for half an hour so that the vitamins A, D and E present in the oil are absorbed by the skin.
You can also mix olive oil with vinegar and water and use it as a night cream. This will keep your skin stay moisturized and also exfoliate the skin.

7. Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter is also very beneficial in treating stretch marks.
  • You must apply cocoa butter over the affected area at least two times a day. After one to two months, the marks will be less visible.
  • Another option is to make a mixture using half a cup of cocoa butter, one tablespoon of wheat germ oil, two teaspoons of grated beeswax and one teaspoon each of apricot kernel oil and vitamin E oil. Heat this mixture until the beeswax melts. You can store the mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator and apply it to your stretch marks two to three times a day. This mixture will make your skin more hydrated and smooth.

8. Castor Oil

Castor oil, which is used in the treatment of a number of skin problems such as wrinkles, age spots, moles, dark spots, fine lines and pimples, can also be used to quickly get rid of stretch marks.
  1. Apply some castor oil to the stretch marks and gently massage the area in circular motions for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Wrap the area with a thin, cotton cloth. Using a hot water bottle or a heating pad, apply some heat to the affected area for at least a half an hour.
  3. Repeat this process daily for a minimum of one month to notice positive results.

9. Egg Whites

Eggs are a rich source of protein. For stretch marks, you want to use only the egg whites, which contain amino acids and proteins.
  1. Whip the whites of two eggs gently with a fork. Clean the affected skin area with water and then apply a thick layer of egg whites with a makeup brush.
  2. Allow the egg whites to dry completely and then rinse the area with cold water.
  3. Finally apply some olive oil on the skin to keep it moisturized.
  4. Repeat the process daily for at least two weeks and watch for positive results.

10. Alfalfa

Alfalfa leaves contain eight essential amino acids which are good for overall health of the skin. They are also rich in protein and vitamins E and K, which help in restoring and increasing body tone. The anti-fungal agent present in alfalfa leaves alkalizes and detoxifies the skin, which helps minimize scars including stretch marks.
  1. Mix some alfalfa power with a few drops of chamomile oil to form a smooth paste.
  2. Massage the paste into the affected area two to three times a day.
  3. Repeat this daily for one week and you will notice great improvement.

Makeup mistakes that make us look older

Makeups are supposed to highlight your natural beauty, but  when used wrongly, can add at least 10 years to your age making you look older.

Here are some makeup mistakes that make us look older:

foundation
Using Too Much Foundation:   A foundation that's too thick will settle into fine lines and sap the luminosity from your skin. "Only use foundation where you need it to even out discoloration," says makeup artist Frances Hathaway. "You don't have to cover every inch of your skin." When buying a foundation, avoid those described as "matte," "velvet," and "long-wearing"; look for sheer liquid formulas with light-diffusing pigments.

eye cream

Over-Concealing: Your Under-Eye Circles A thick concealer that comes in a stick or pot will eradicate the shadows under your eyes, but it will also draw attention to the fine lines that usually show up in that area first (because the skin there is thin). A better option: A brush-on highlighter pen that uses illuminating particles, not opaque colour, to camouflage dark circles. Apply it only near the inner corners of your under-eye area, where shadows are most prominent

lipstick

Wearing Deep, Dark Lip Colours: A dark colour makes any surface look smaller—a welcome illusion perhaps on your hips but not your lips. To make your mouth look fuller (one hallmark of a youthful face), choose bright lipsticks and glosses (peaches, pinks, vibrant reds) over deep shades (burgundies, wines, browns). Makeup artists use another trick to create the illusion of luscious lips: Before applying colour, trace a highlighter pencil along your upper lip line, then buff it out with your finger.

blush

Finishing with Powder: Youthful skin reflects light. Powders prevent light reflection and tend to magnify lines in the skin. Trade the powder for a packet of blotting tissues—use one, only on the T-zone (nose, chin, and forehead), if you're shiny midday

eyeliner

Wearing Black Eyeliner: Don't skip eyeliner altogether—it's a great way to make your eyes look more open—but choose brown over black, which can be harsh. And keep the colour diffuse. "You want to define the eyes with softness and blending, not strict lines," says makeup artist Troy Surratt. "A thick liner can leave the upper lids looking heavier than they are." The best technique: Trace a brown pencil liner along the upper lash line (into the roots of the lashes), focusing on the outer corners; smudge it with a Q-tip.

Using Liner and Mascara on Your Lower Lashes: Playing up your lower lashes can make your eyes look droopy and draw attention to dark circles. Instead, curl your upper lashes and wiggle a volumizing mascara into their roots and slowly through the ends for the most uplifting effect.

blush

Skipping Blush: A rosy flush on your cheeks brings instant life to your face. And, if applied correctly, blush can offer a little lift. Smile, find the fleshiest part of your cheek and apply colour just slightly above it. Blend the colour out toward your temples in circles, not a line, using a big fluffy brush.

lipstick

Applying Lipstick Straight from the Tube: The borders of the lips soften with age, and any extra lipstick migrates easily. To avoid bleeding colour, use your finger or a lip brush so that you don't deposit too much pigment. Concentrate the lipstick in the centre of your mouth, and blend it out with a finger. Top it with a moisturizing balm or light gloss.

eye pencil

Choosing a Too-Dark Eyebrow Pencil: "Your brow colour fades as you age, so the brow pencil that you were using at 25 will look too stark against your complexion at 50," says makeup artist Denise Markey. She recommends Maybelline Define-a-Brow Eyebrow Pencils ($6.95; drugstores), which come in four shades. Choose the one that's a shade or two lighter than your natural brow colour. If your brows are starting to get a little wiry, run a clear brow gel over them as well, brushing them up and out toward your temples.

New Study shows that Diet drinks are more effective than water alone in losing weight.

People who drank only water reported feeling hungrier and lost less weight. Previous research has found that people who consume diet drinks are less likely to crave dessert

According to a recent study, Diet soft drinks are more effective at helping people lose weight than just drinking water.

The research scientists found people felt less hungry and were more likely to lose weight if they stuck to diet drinks.

People who consumed diet drinks lost an average of 13lb, while those in a control group, who were only allowed to drink water, lost just 9lb
The exercise and eating habits of both groups, as part of a weight loss treatment programme, remained the same during the course of the research.

A total of 303 people took part in the 12 week clinical study, which is being published in the journal Obesity.

What do you think about this study? Do you think it's true based on your own experience?

Ladies Be Careful! Slimming pills that could send you psychotic...with risks of heart attacks, strokes and mental breakdown

  • An 18-year-old girl from Dublin ended up fighting for her life
  • Samantha Ntritsou, 31, was sectioned after pills induced psychosis
  • Lilla Goatcher, 28, experienced excruciating stomach ache and chest pains

The sale of illegal diet pills and other banned medicines over the internet has become big business with more and more women desperate to lose weight without lifting a finger!

The main target of illegal slimming pills sellers at this time of year are women desperate to find a quick-fix way of shedding the pounds ahead of the summer holiday season.

Most of these pills are illegal in most countries because the ingredients, manufactured in unregulated laboratories in China and India, could cause serious illness or death.

‘In the spring, women will go online and buy a couple of months’ worth of tablets which they think will help them fit into their bikini,’ explains Danny Lee-Frost, head of enforcement operations at the Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

‘But buy from websites like these and you don’t know what you are getting — these pills can cause strokes and heart attacks. They are dangerous.

‘You also have no idea where this stuff is being manufactured or stored, and you cannot guarantee how much active ingredient each pill contains. In the past, we have raided places where different chemicals were being mixed up in cement mixers, with the stuff on the floor being swept up and shovelled back in. They just don’t care.’

Examples of these pills are Slimex 15 and Slim Trim which contain sibutramine, a weight-loss drug previously available on prescription as Reductil. In October 2010 Reductil was withdrawn from the market and is now a controlled substance.

Action was taken after some of those taking sibutramine reported raised blood pressure and pulse rate amongst other things.

Lilla Goatcher, 28, was prescribed slimming pills twice and had extreme reactions

Before it was banned in Britain, Lilla Goatcher, 28, was among those to be prescribed Reductil.

‘For the first couple of weeks it wasn’t too bad — a racing heart as if I had drunk far too much coffee,’ says Lilla, who is now married and works in digital marketing. ‘But then I started not to be able to sleep and would be up all night. That was followed by really excruciating stomach ache and pains in my chest which in the end got so bad I decided to stop taking the pills.’

Lilla was once again prescribed a lower dosage of the pills shortly before they were banned in 2010. ‘I started having heart palpitations and once again couldn’t get to sleep,’ she says.

‘I couldn’t concentrate and started to feel terribly light-headed. The reaction was still quite extreme.’

Two years ago, an 18-year-old girl from Dublin who bought slimming pills online containing sibutramine developed ischaemic colitis, a severe swelling of blood vessels supplying the intestines. It resulted in her having her colon surgically removed.

According to MHRA, some of the ‘herbal’ and traditional Chinese slimming medicines contain dangerous levels of heavy metals such as mercury, arsenic and lead. They have issued warnings about three products found to contain undeclared prescription-only ingredients.

Other herbal medicines have been found to contain the plant extract ephedra, which is classed as a prescription-only medicine in the UK because of the serious side-effects like insomnia, psychosis and heart palpitations.

31-year-old dance teacher Samantha Ntritsou, from the West Midlands, bought slimming pills from eBay. Although she was a size 12 and weighed 10st, she was keen to lose weight around her stomach.

‘I paid £90 for three months’ supply,’ she says. ‘It was a lot of money but I thought it would be well worth it. When they arrived in the post I couldn’t wait to get started.’ But shortly after beginning the course, Samantha began to notice some symptoms...

‘I was full of excess energy,’ she says. ‘I began to feel constantly agitated, too, I kept snapping at my family and I couldn’t sleep.’

Samantha also started to experience feelings of paranoia.

‘At the hospital I totally freaked out,’ she says. ‘I was screaming and running around the wards where patients were sleeping.’

Samantha was eventually sectioned to a psychiatric ward where she was given sleeping pills and mood stabilisers.

It is quite scary given the scale of the trade in these drugs over the internet and the lengths people are prepared to go to lose a few kilos.
