Cynthia Udoka Osokogu has been missing since late July 2012 and her pictures has been all over the internet.
Unfortunately, reports came in yesterday that she has been found, but dead cold in the mortuary.
The 24-year post-graduate student of Nasarawa State University left Abuja on the 22nd of July according to reports. She was a budding enterpreneur, a clothing retailer and had travelled to Lagos to purchase new stock.
Cynthia had been chatting with some new “friends” on Facebook for a few months. During the course of their conversations, they developed a friendship and a certain level of trust. These young men were also university students who seemed normal and promised to host Cynthia when she came to Lagos.
It is speculated that they paid for her plane ticket and promised to pay for her hotel as well. Only Cynthia knows if this is true.
However, Cynthia trusted her new friends and had no idea that they had some devilish plans for her. These two young men picked Cynthia up from the airport in Lagos and drove her to a hotel in Festac.
At the hotel, they tied her up, took all the money she brought to shop for her business and strangled her to death.
They then left the hotel and immediately deleted her from their facebook friend list to remove any trace of their connection.
The hotel staff found her body and since her ID cards and mobile phone had been stolen, they could not identify her or call friends and family. Her body was then taken to a morgue in Lagos.
Meanwhile her family and friends had been praying for her safe return.
The Killers were caught when at some point, one of the killers answered Cynthia’s phone and the call was traced to Festac.
Her missing person’s police report was then handed over to the Area E Command in Festac. This led her family to the hotel and also to finding her body in the morgue.
The killers were identified thanks to the CCTV from the hotel.
According to reports, these two young men have now confessed that they killed Cynthia and she is their sixth victim – the gang reportedly specializes in luring young women, robbing them of their possessions before killing them.
The pharmacist who supplied the drugs used on Cynthia has also been arrested.
According to Police spokesperson Ngozi Braide, “Six people were arrested on Sunday over the incident and investigations are ongoing”.
Cynthia Osokogu was the only daughter and the last born of her parents – Major General & Mrs Osokogu.
She is survived by three elder brothers and parents.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
It's quite a terrible thing to happen, and i wish people would learn some lessons from these things...
