Woman Sets 85-year-old Stepmother On Fire

A woman threw caution to the winds in Imo State as she set her 85-year-old stepmother ablaze, after splashing her two grandchildren with hot water.

The natives of Ndiokwu Lorji, Aboh Mbaise area of the state, would not forget the fateful day in a hurry as the devil, metaphorically, took control of one of them and she caused tragedy within her own family.

People wept uncontrollably at the sight of the old woman and the two kids who were writhing in pains following the alleged action of the suspect.

Gladys, 48, mother of many children, was said to have splashed hot water on Emeka Ukaegbu, 4, and Nzube Ukaegbu, 6.

Daily Sun gathered that the children were viewing a film in the family parlour when Gladys appeared with the hot water and before anybody knew what she was up to, she had poured the hot water on the two kids.

Their uncle, Chukwuma Ukaegbu, 32, told Daily Sun in Lagos that the kids screamed as they were running out from the parlour in agony.

Chukwuma said his mother, 85-year-old Mary Ukaegbu, staggered as she ran to inquire what had happened.

The woman was shocked to see her grandchildren with their body peeled .

The children kept shouting the name Gladys to their enraged grandmother who moved in haste to see Gladys.

Upon sighting the old woman, Gladys allegedly poured a substance suspected to be fuel on her and immediately set her ablaze.

Mary, Emeka and Nzube were rushed to the hospital but only the two kids were admitted while hospitals rejected the old woman.

Chukwuma said the incident began at about 1.30pm, adding that his mother (Mary) gave up the ghost at 11 pm same day, August 20.

Chukwuma said the kids are still in hospital receiving treatment as at the time of filing this report.

He explained that Emeka sustained injury from his head to the back.

He said Nzube was the worst hit as his body peeled completely from head to toe.

He said it took some days before the eyes of Nzube could open.

Chukwuma could not fathom what could have been the cause of Gladys’ anger.

According to him, there used to be minor quarrel over sundry issues like “your goat ate my leaves or yam.”

He alleged that there was nothing very serious that would have warranted such wicked act.

He further alleged that his elder brother, Nnabuihe, told him that Gladys had several times threatened that she would kill his (Nnabuihe’s) children, kill him (Nnabuihe) and their mother, Mary.

He said Nnabuihe waved her threat off as one of those empty ones.

They never knew evil thought was brewing in the heart of the suspect until the fateful day.

Policemen from Aboh Mbaise Division arrested Gladys the following day and later transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Owerri, Imo State.

While Chukwuma insisted that the name of his half sister is Gladys, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Vitalis Onugu, a deputy superintendent, while confirming the story to Daily Sun, said the name police recorded in the file was Clarene.

Onugu said the suspect had an altercation with the two children and as she wanted to pour petrol on them, she allegedly poured it on the old woman, Mary, and she went up in flames.

Onugu also said the suspect later poured hot water on the children.

The police spokesman said the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.

Duke and Duchess Of Cambridge, Prince William And Kate Middleton Sues Closer Magazine Over 'Unjustifiable' Publication Of Topless Pictures

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are considering taking legal action over topless pictures of the Duchess which their spokesman described as “a grotesque and totally unjustifiable” invasion of privacy.

The Royal couple are furious that the French magazine Closer has published the photographs, taken during their holiday in Provence last month, saying it was “unthinkable” that anyone should print them.

A statement from St James’s Palace, produced in consultation with the couple, likened the long-lens pictures to “the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales”.

Aides said the “level of intrusiveness” meant “a red line has been crossed”, suggesting the couple are giving serious thought to suing the magazine and the photographer for breach of privacy.

Traditionally, the Royal family never take legal action against the media, but the pictures are perhaps the most intrusive ever published of a senior member of the Royal family and the Duke and Duchess may now decide enough is enough.

The couple were enjoying a short break at the Chateau D’Autet, owned by Lord Linley, the Queen’s nephew, in Luberon, when the pictures were taken.

The Duchess is seen looking relaxed and happy in the pictures as she wears nothing but a pair of bikini bottoms, while William is in a pair of shorts.

In defence, Closer claimed the swimming pool was in full view of a public road, and sources in the area have said that even local French newspaper photographers who have nothing to do with the international paparazzi were able to stand on the road and take pictures.

A source at the magazine said: “If two public figures chose to strip off in full view of a public road then they can expect to be pictured, and they were.”

The magazine’s front cover says: “World Exclusive; Kate and William in Provence”, adding: “The Duchess of Cambridge topless on the terrace of a guest house in Luberon!..Discover the incredible pictures of the future Queen of England as you've never seen her before ... and as you will never see her again!”

Arrested: 58 Year Old Woman Strangles Friend To Death For Snatching Her Lover 16 Years Ago

A 58-year old woman, Josephine Jacob, has been arrested and charged to a Lagos court for allegedly strangling her friend, Mrs. Margret Ndidi, 59, in their home at Shasha, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

This happened 16 years after Josephine’s bitter experience of losing a lover to Margret whom he married.

Josephine reportedly went inside Margret’s one room apartment at 19, Omo Olore Street, Mosalashi Bus Stop, Shasha, when she was sleeping and strangled her.

She was arrested and arraigned before Yaba Magistrate’s Court where she is facing murder charge.

P.M.NEWS gathered from the residents that Josephine bore grudge against her over what happened 16 years ago between them.

It was learnt that the marriage of both Josephine and the late Margret later broke down and they both became divorcees.

“ She has been blaming Margret for her condition because she snatched her lover 16 years ago,” a source said.

Though they later reconciled and became friends again and started living together at their two-room rented apartment they shared, unknown to Margret, her friend was still nursing the pain and had not forgiven her.

So, in August this year, Josephine allegedly went inside Margret’s room where she was sleeping, choked her neck and strangled her.

When the woman died, Josephine started shouting for neighbours to come and help her, saying that Margret had died on her bed.

After Margret was rushed to a hospital, a doctor certified her dead. But the hospital management discovered that her neck had bruises and wound. It was suspected that she was strangled.

The matter was reported at Shasha Police station and Josephine was arrested and detained.

The police preliminary investigation also revealed that she was strangled. The matter was transferred to SCID, Panti, Yaba and Josephine’s two daughters were also arrested.

She was charged to court for murder under Section 221 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

Her plea was not taken.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. J. Ugbormaiko ordered that her file should be duplicated and sent to DPP for advice.

No date was fixed for hearing.
