A man, Musa Yusuf, who allegedly killed his wife for refusing to submit to his sexual demand, has been remanded at the Federal Prison, Ilorin.
An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded the accused for allegedly committing the offence on Nov. 17 on a farm.
The accused was arraigned on a one count charge of culpable homicide, punishable under Section 221 of the Penal Code.
The brother of the deceased, Sanni Suleiman, told the court that the woman took food to her husband on the farm but did not return home.
Suleiman said when a search party was organised, her corpse was found on her husband’s farm with mark of violence on her face. The body, he said, was concealed under weeds.
The prosecutor Zachaeus Funsho, told the court that the accused “callously clubbed his wife to death and flew into thin air” before he was arrested by the police.
He objected to bail for the accused because the alleged offence “is not ordinarily bailable”.
He urged the court to remand the accused in prison custody, pending the outcome of investigation.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mariam Ahmed ordered the accused remanded in Federal Prison, Ilorin, and adjourned the case to 13 December for further mention.

Church Members Find Completely Naked Man Lying In Church After Congregation Prays And Fasts For A Week
Zimbabwe: For seven days and nights, the congregation prayed and fasted after receiving a prophecy telling them to pray more, then on Sunday, the seventh day, they went to the church mission house, and found a naked man with colourful ropes inside the building.
The young congregation of the New Life Worship Centre Church in Block X, Soshanguve, prayed for the safety of the churchyard and to have a deeper awareness of God in their lives.
"We had prayed all night. Then as the sun started rising at about 5am, we went inside the church. And there he was! We found ourselves face to face with this naked man," Johannes Mametja, a man of God. , said.
Johannes said he couldn't understand how he got into the house.
"The house was locked. We realised he must have used magic keys to open the back door. As we are believers we called on the name of the Holy Spirit. This made the naked man hostile. Then he suddenly dived out of the window and ran away," added Johannes.
Mametja and his congregation chased after the running man and saved him from a beating by community members who had joined the chase. Church member Neo Mmakola (21) said they took him to the church and started to pray for him.
"He confessed that his name was Lucky and he had spiritually come from Limpopo. We cut off the ropes from his body and found they had muthi tied to them," said Neo.
Warrant officer Lolo Mangena told Daily Sun: "A middle aged, totally naked man is being kept at the police station while we trace his family."

Lagos police arrest suspected serial killer, robber
Ibrahim Balogun |
The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Ibrahim Balogun, a 25-year-old man accused of perpetrating a series of murders in Somolu, Bariga and Fadeyi in the state.
PUNCH Metro had reported on June 25, 2012, that Balogun also known as Small Jpron, was declared wanted following a gang-related violence between Shaggy Boys and Downtown Boys which left at least five people dead in Ilaje, Bariga.
Balogun, who also goes by the pseudonym, Asarailu, which means death in Arabic, is said to be the deputy gang leader of Downtown Boys and a member of a sect, Eiye Confraternity also known as EFCC Boys.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Balogun was arrested on Bawahala Street near Pedro Police Station on Saturday.
A reliable police source narrated the circumstances that led to Balogun’s arrest to the Punch correspondent.
He said, “On Friday, around 11:30am, Yusuf Adebowale, a resident of Somolu, took a commercial motorcycle to FirstBank branch in Fadeyi to withdraw N100, 000. As he was withdrawing the money from ATM, the okada rider, later identified as Dare, informed Balogun and his gang.
“As Adebowale left the bank, just a few metres away, Balogun and three other gang members attacked him and stole the money, phone and a wristwatch.
“Adebowale reported the matter at Onipanu Police Station and also told youths in the area about his ordeal. Less than an hour later, Dare, the okada rider, was apprehended by residents and taken to the police station where he confessed.
“Later that night, he led us to Balogun’s hideout but Balogun was not around. One of the policemen, identified as Abu, however released Dare without authorisation.”
According to reports, the following day around 11:30am, Balogun and four others allegedly went to rob residents of Bawahala Street and a woman alerted the police.
The police source said, “In broad daylight, Balogun and four gang members, heavily armed, went to rob. We received a distress call and policemen headed by Inspector Smart, rushed down to the scene.
“The four others escaped but Balogun was arrested and taken to Pedro Police Station where he identified himself as Ibrahim Oriyomi Folarin.”
The Punch correspondent learnt that the policemen could not identify Balogun even though the police had declared him wanted. However, scores of residents stormed the police station and quickly identified him.
It was learnt that there was pandemonium at the station as residents who had fallen victims to Balogun and his gang asked the police to hand him over.
Youths in the area were said to have brought a tyre and petrol which they threatened to set the suspect ablaze.
But the Special Anti-Robbery Squad took Balogun away and this restored normalcy to the station.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.
She said Balogun had been on police wanted list for a long time.
“I just spoke to the officer in charge of SARS and he confirmed the incident to me. He said the suspect (Balogun) is accused of murders, attempted murders and robberies,” she said.
