Pope Francis Breaks Tradition; Washes Feet Of Prisoners Including Muslims&Women

pope francis washing feet
Pope Francis washed the feet of 12 young offenders including two girls and two Muslims at a Rome prison on Thursday in an unprecedented version of an ancient Easter ritual, seen as part of efforts to bring the Catholic Church closer to those in need.
The pope knelt down, washing and kissing the young prisoners’ feet in the first Holy Thursday ceremony of its kind performed by a pontiff in prison, and the first to include women and Muslims.
“Whoever is the most high up must be at the service of others,” Francis said at the mass in the Casal del Marmo youth prison, a fortnight after being elected Latin America’s first pope.
“I do this with all my heart because it is my duty as a priest, as a bishop. I have to be at your service. I love doing it because this is what the Lord has taught me,” the 76-year-old said.
Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi said many of the participants broke down in tears at the ceremony, which was open only to Vatican media. One young man had to be replaced at the last moment because he was too overcome with emotion.
Video footage from the ceremony showed the pope pouring water over the feet — one of them with tattoos — bending down to kiss them and looking each of the 12 prisoners in the eye before moving on.
pope francis kisses feet of prisoner
Lombardi said that while this was the first time a pope had washed women’s feet, Francis had performed this type of ceremony in his native Argentina many times before becoming pope including in jails, hospitals and old people’s homes.
The Holy Thursday ceremony is usually held in a basilica in the city centre and commemorates the gesture of humility believed to have been performed by Jesus Christ before his death to his 12 disciples at their last meal.
Popes performing the ritual have usually washed the feet of priests.
Catholic traditionalists are likely to be riled by the inclusion of women because all of Jesus’ disciples were male — the same justification used to explain why only men can be Catholic priests.
Francis has already broken with several Vatican traditions with his informal style, although he is yet to begin tackling the many problems assailing the Roman Catholic Church including reform of the scandal-ridden Vatican bureaucracy and bank.
Local prison chaplain Gaetano Greco said he hoped the ritual would be “a positive sign in the lives” of the young offenders at the prison, which has around 50 inmates aged between 14 and 21.
Earlier on Thursday, the pontiff told Catholic priests at a mass in St Peter’s Basilica to stop their “soul-searching” and “introspection”.
“We need to go out… to the outskirts where there is suffering, bloodshed, blindness that longs for sight and prisoners in thrall to many evil masters,” he said.

Prostitute Dies During 'Encounter' With Customer And Resurrects In Coffin

A prostitute in Bulowayo, Zimbabwe, is bringing new meaning to the term “killer séx” after authorities thought she died during an encounter with a customer.
However, she came back to life just as officials placed her in a metal coffin.
The incident occurred last week at the Manor Hotel and the escort, later identified as “MaNdlo,” reportedly collapsed and died while having séx with a client.
But when authorities came to collect the body of the prostitute and put it in a steel coffin, she suddenly woke up in a panic screaming, “You want to kill me!” at the officers.

Seeing a woman presumed to be dead spring back to life shocked onlookers, many of whom ran away in fear, Bulawayo24.com reported.
“It was like a movie,” a source told the website. “People were running away in different directions. It was a scary incident because we were all convinced that she had died because she was just cold. Miracles surely do happen.”
MaNdlo was taken home by another working girl and the unidentified john who allegedly “killed” her reportedly sneaked out of the hotel moments after the cops had left.

Top Ten Seduction Secrets Of The French Revealed

NO tights, NO bed socks and definitely NO pyjamas

  • Advice comes from Soft Paris, French equivalent of Ann Summers

  • Company sells lingerie and sex toys and is set to launch in the UK

  • Here they share their top ten tips on the art of seduction

In a MailOnline exclusive, Soft Paris reveal ten tips to allow British women to bring sexy French flair to the bedroom...

Ooh la la! Opt for stockings or suspenders and let him watch you put them on (and off)

1. It's all in your walk
Why do English women hunch over, either shuffling or stomping? This is not seductive. Take the time to look around you, proudly, chin up/shoulders back, walking with one foot almost in front of the other, to undulate your hips provocatively.

2. Be feline
Don't be a slobbery, noisy, bounding English bulldog. Imagine you’re an elegant cat - light, agile, graceful, quiet. Seduction is about understanding the effects of your movements and using them to your advantage.

Racy tips: Wear black lace and act feline to seduce your man

Elegance: Walk tall and let a man put your coat on
3. Be a lady
When a gentleman holds your coat out for you, do not take it from him, let him dress you. Allow doors to be held open and seats pulled out.

Be elegant, always. Don’t hold your glass of wine as if it's a pint of beer, French women lightly hold the top of the glass stem. Know how to handle all objects well.

4. Say goodbye to tights
Instead opt for stockings and suspenders, but make sure he is watching when you put them on - give him a show. Slip them on slowly with long strokes and finish off by snapping the elastic on the top of your thighs.

5. Use him
Although we could reach the zip on the back of our dresses if we really wanted to, allow him the privilege instead. It can be as seductive to dress a woman, as it is to undress her.

6. Give your lingerie drawer a makeover
Get rid of the Bridget Jones knickers and replace with black lace, ribbon trims, suspenders and waist cinching corsets. Your face should reveal what you’re wearing beneath your clothes, creating a subtle smile, the only clue to your your saucy secret.

7. Go to bed dressed (or undressed) like a star
Forget the fleece pyjamas and bed socks. Opt for a sheer babydoll and a satin robe. It won’t stay on for long…

8. Be sweet
Wear scented and edible crème so your entire body is lickable. He’ll want to make you dessert.

Bedroom fireworks: Soft Paris recommend being playful, adventurous and uninhibited
9. Flirt shamelessly
Even though he may be your husband, never stop seducing. At a dinner party, under the table, take his hand and slowly stroke it along your thigh, leading up to your suspenders. Send naughty texts while he is at work. Intimacy doesn’t have to stay at home…

10. A toy box is not just for the kids
Be playful, adventurous and uninhibited.

The fairy tale classic court-heeled shoe features more than a quarter of a million pounds worth of white diamonds, making it a one-of-a-kind work of art Worth NZD$500,000, or £276,237.

Simply called ‘the Diamond shoe’, New Zealand designer Kathryn Wilson masterminded the glamorous accessory with the help of Sarah Hutchings of Auckland’s Orsini Fine Jewellery company.

The creation process involved hours of surgeon-like precision using tweezers and a special adhesive to painstakingly attach the diamonds to the shoe, one by one.

Both wanted to create a shoe that signified the ultimate in designer luxury and embodied the 'Cinderella' fantasy.

It took more than 50 hours to make the exclusive shoes, which are made up of 21.18 carats of quality diamonds, lace, embellishments and a Kathryn Wilson shoe.

Sarah said: 'Kathyrn approached me to work with her on the project for her Winter launch. I loved Kathryn’s work and I have a life long passion for shoes so it seemed perfect.

If you want to be the belle of the ball like Cinderella, then these dazzling shoes will be right up your street

William Ivey Long and Stuart Weitzman created a pair of pumps for Cinderella at the Broadway Theatre

'It was incredibly time consuming and a lot of thought went into it before I even began.

'The shoe was originally black so to give it more impact I painted it white, then used a pencil to mark out the patterns and designs.

'I also had to work out how many carats of diamonds were required and how much space I needed to place the lace and embellishments. Then the late nights painstakingly placing the diamonds onto the shoe using tweezers at home, one night I was still going at 2am!

'The final product was well worth the sleep deprivation and pain.'

Designer Kathryn Wilson and Sarah Hutchings, of Orsini Fine Jewellery, are proud of the diamond shoes

Because of the value of the shoe, a full scale security operation was required, with two guards on standby

And because of the value of the shoe, a full scale security operation was required, with two guards on standby at the door while Sarah got to work.

'I had two security guards in cars follow me at all times when I was transporting the diamonds and shoe, it was quite exciting, like being in a James Bond movie!, ' Sarah added.

'I also had a custom made smash proof box made in perspex made especially for the launch.'

Those hoping to strut their stuff in these fairytale-esque shoes will be disappointed, as they were specially made for a charity auction, raising NZD$22,000 for Ronald McDonald House, a children's hospital network that cares for families of sick children while they're being treated.

Knocked off the top spot, world's SECOND most expensive shoes

This was the most expensive pair of shoes in the world setting fashion lovers back a staggering £140,000 - until the Kathryn Wilson beauties came about.

The stilettos are made entirely from solid gold and more than 2,000 diamonds and is the brainchild of British jewellery designer Christopher Michael Shellis.

Shellis spent three years working on the opulent creation, painstakingly put together by skilled goldsmiths in temperatures of more than 1000ºC.

Each pair is handcrafted from solid gold and then encrusted with 2,200 brilliant cut diamonds, totalling 30 carats.

He said: 'The aim of this was to create a unique form of jewellery which you can wear on your feet.

'It's a bit like if you found these on an archaeological dig in thousands of years time they would be regarded as a treasure - a treasure of the feet.

'But like any great treasure it will remain as beautiful as the day it was created - and we even offer an 'eternity' guarantee lasting 1,000 years.'

The heels and soles are replaceable - they are shoes that are supposed to be worn, not just looked at.

The shoes have been on sale for two years but the designer, whose label is called House Of Borgezie, has sold only four pairs - to very high profile customers.

Man kills uncle at omabe masquerade festival in Nsukka

Pandemonium broke out at Nguru village in Nsukka, Enugu State, on Tuesday, when a man shot his uncle dead at a masquerade festival.

Boniface Ukwueze was shot dead by his nephew Chebube Ukwueze, during the Omabe Masquerade Festival, according to an eyewitness.

A member of the community, who did not want his name published, said that the accident brought the festival to a sudden end.

He said that people were dancing and celebrating with the masquerades when Chebube, who was holding a rifle, hit his leg on a stone and in the process of falling, touched the trigger which killed the deceased.

“When we celebrate the masquerade festival, some people usually carry dane guns and shoot it into the air to add spice to the celebration,” said the witness. “We have been doing this festival since our forefathers but it is unfortunate that this year’s turned into a tragedy. It was an accidental discharge; the nephew had no intention of killing his uncle.”

Speaking on the tragedy, the councilor representing the area in Nsukka LGA, Mr Nick Obayi, described it as unfortunate, noting that the community handed over the suspect to the police to avoid massive arrest.

“We know it was an accidental discharge, so the community will work closely with the police to ensure that the matter is resolved amicably,” he said. “It was an accident. The nephew had no intention of killing the uncle. We decided to hand him over to the police to avoid massive arrest.”

He said the tragedy would not prevent the community from continuing the festival since everybody knew the killing was not intentional.

Igwe Patrick Okoro, the traditional ruler of Nkpunano community, confirmed the incident, describing it as an accident that occurred during the festival. “The community has been celebrating this festival for a long time, we have not witnessed this tragedy before,” he said.

Ebere Amaraizu, the police spokesman in Enugu State, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had commenced investigations into the matter.

2 Women Cut Neighbour's Face With Blade Following A Fight Over Choirmaster

Hannah Okurabe

Two women – Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi – have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ebute Meta on a three count of conspiracy, assault and grievous harm.

Abigeal (26) and Remi (28), both choristers at a Cherubim and Seraphim church at Progressive Road, Ebute Meta, were said to have assaulted Hannah Okurabe (18) with razor blades at Abule Nla junction, a few metres away from the church.

The March 17, 2013 incident was said to be the result of an earlier fight over the church’s choirmaster, Joseph Unuigbe.

A father of two, Unuigbe is married to Folashade, who is also a member of the same church.

The charge read, “That you Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi at about 18.30 hours at Abule Nla junction, Apapa Road, Ebute Meta West, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit assault and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 409 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

“That you, Temitope Abigeal and Temitope Remi in the aforementioned magisterial district did unlawfully use a razor blade to cut one Okurabe Hannah on her cheek, eyelid, left ear and back of her neck which caused her grievous harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 243 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.”

Their counsel, identified simply as Mr. Chukwudi, made a bail application.

The prosecutor, Mr. Ishola Samuel, objected to the bail application, saying that the complainant was presently admitted to the Lagos Island General Hospital.

Samuel said, “If bail is granted, the defendants are likely to abscond from the court and that would prejudice the interest of justice. In view of this, I ask this honourable court to discountenance the bail application of the defence counsel.”

The Magistrate, Mrs. M. O. Tanimola, ruled that the charge was a bailable offence.

She said, “Bail is hereby granted the two defendants in the sum of N200,000 each in like sum. Defendants are to produce two responsible sureties who are gainfully employed and with evidence of tax payments to the state government in the last three years.

“The sureties must be relatives of the defendants and their addresses are to be verified. Case is adjourned to the April 17 2013 for mention.”

The suspects are said to be currently remanded at the Kirikiri Minimum Prison.

The 'Comedian' Side Of Obasanjo

Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, never ceases to amaze. He can choose to be serious this minute while playing the perfect comedian the very next minute.
At a recent event at the Government House of his home state, Ogun in South-West Nigeria, the retired Army General and erstwhile Head of State did not forget to turn up with his comedian’s apparel.
This became evident when a journalist attempted to photograph him. Rather than allow the man have his way, the elder statesman and world citizen sought to dodge the camera lens by turning swiftly to grab a young white man who was part of an international delegation on investment drive to the Ogun State seat of power at Abeokuta. It was as if he wanted the bemused "oyinbo" to back him the way mothers back their children in Africa.
Unfortunately for OBJ, he still could not escape the lens of the journalist, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji. Dimeji celebrated his “conquest” this morning on his Facebook wall, publishing the photo seen here with the caption:
“COMEDIAN: Here I was trying to take pix of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, but was equally trying to dodge my camera, to hide behind this whiteman, forgetting that golden fish has no hiding place. At last my camera caught up with OBJ.”

Nigerian Leaders Sacrifice Animals In Order To Remain In Power - Soyinka

Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has decried the rate at which Nigerian leaders consult marabouts and prophets in a bid to hold onto political power.

photo

Nigerian leaders, he said, were in the habit of sacrificing animals in order to remain in power. Soyinka spoke in Port Harcourt on Monday at a two-day education summit.

He observed that the situation was encouraging students to join cultism, adding that the rot in the nation’s education system was trickling down to secondary and primary schools.

The renowned author, who chaired the occasion, noted that normal university cultures like fraternities had been misconstrued to mean cultism.

He said, “Give me the name of any head of state who has not been consulting marabouts and prophets and so on, sacrificing goats, animals in the dead of night to receive a third term in office and so on and then you start blaming students, they are imitating the same thing the infirmity society itself has become.

Soaps That Restore Virginity.... Gels That Push Up Hips….

This one is for the ladies – I heard about a store in Dubai, UAE that sells products that can get you the kind of curves you’ve always dreamt of. You want one like Jennifer Lopez’s or Nicki Minaj’s? You could get Shakira’s for less than Dh60 (about N1,100).

The shop, Dragon Mart sells ladies’ products ranging from a Dh25 virginity soap that promises to tighten muscles, to a Dh60 (about N2570) gel that claims to push your ‘hip up’, dozens of dubious products are selling like hotcakes at various outlets of the ladies’ shop.
virginity soap

“Our virginity soap has honey extracts and is very effective,” said a salesperson suggesting it be used at least twice a day to get its benefits in about two weeks.

Firmer buttocks, he claimed, could take a bit longer, as one needs to apply the gel for about a month. None of these products conforms to health stipulations.

But retailers swear by them. Ask them if the products have any side effects and the standard response is: “No. It’s all herbal.”

The ‘no side-effect’ claim is repeated for almost every ‘miracle’ product you enquire about, whether it be the ‘super slim bomb’ tea or ‘slim bomb’ capsules, or stuff you can eat or drink to target specific body parts like your belly, buttocks or thighs.

“You can lose even 13-14kg a month with this tea,” boasted a petite salesgirl, claiming she had herself used the tea.

There is however a warning you must read before you get on the next plane to Dubai; the Ministry of Health has urged residents to exercise caution while using herbal products as some of them might contain harmful chemicals.

Several weight loss products were taken off the shelves in recent times after it was found they contained adulterated substances.

Dr Anil Awatramani, general practitioner at Unicare Medical Centre said: “One should be aware of the efficacy or side effects of any product that one is using.

“As a doctor, I would not personally recommend products without knowledge or evidence about their efficacy or side effect,” he warned.

Hmmm! Ladies, what do you think about these products? Have you used such products before? Drop your comments and let us know your experience and advice!

Police save naked hermaphrodite from getting lynched in Sapele

SAPELE — The police in Sapele, yesterday, saved an hermaphrodite who is partly man and partly woman, from being lynched by a mob, when the figure suddenly showed up along New Ogorode road, by Total Filling Station, in Sapele.

An eye witness said the incident led to traffic jam along Sapele/Warri ever busy expressway and the New Ogorode road as commuters and drivers stopped to catch a glimpse.

When Vanguard visited the scene, the fellow was completely naked, with hair covering most part of the body and a mustached face like a man but with a pair of big size breasts dangling on the chest as well as female and male private parts side by side in the pubic area.

Shortly the crowd began to swell as more people trooped in to catch a glimpse until some attempted to lynch the fellow but for the timely intervention of the police who arrived the scene and whisked the fellow away in a police car.

At the Sapele Police Area Office where the fellow was taken, he identified himself as Pastor Henry Enuta but refused to disclose his mission nor why he was naked. All efforts to get words from him by newsmen failed as the fellow only occasionally shook his head regretably.

The DPO of the Sapele Police Station, CSP Kenneth Akubue confirmed the rescue of the fellow.

Scottish Church That Let Muslims In To Pray Hit By Abuse On Facebook

A priest who has allowed Muslims to pray in his church has told how he has been hit by a barrage of abuse by internet 'trolls'.
St John's Episcopal Church became the first church in the UK to share their building with Muslims after Rev Isaac Poobalan saw members of a neighbouring mosque praying outside in the snow because of a lack of space.

rev poobalan
Reverend Poobalan said he would not back down over the abusive comments

Hundred of Muslims now pray in the Aberdeen Church's main hall and chapel every week, but the news has not been well received by some Christians, who have taken to the church's Facebook page to blast the decision.
One user said that the church were "sharing Christ's table with Satan" before others another predicted a "flood" of Muslims moving to Aberdeen to convert the church into a mosque and said Rev Poobalan needed to be given the "boot" before it was too late.
Another posted: "I would leave this so called "church". Allah is Satan, and no God.

People posted abusive messages on the Church's Facebook page

"They (the church) have nothing to say about persecuted Christians, but invite Satan in.
"We are dealing with evil people that bow down to Allah and lost their belief in Jesus a long time ago.
"Allah has no son."

People described the move as 'sharing Christ's table with Satan'

But Rev Poobalan said he would not sever his relationship with the nearby Crown Street Mosque.
He said: "I keep seeing these Facebook comments coming up on my email account, but I will not back down.
"We have developed a relationship with the mosque and we will not be breaking that up.
"These people have reacted spontaneously, but over time I hope they will change their minds.
"There is a huge religious cultural gap between the two, and if it takes time for them to be brought together then that's the way it is.
"With our media culture these days one can easily make comments and respond to things instantaneously, you just have to live with it."
One user even criticised Rev Poobalan for being a Good Samaritan to just be "liked" and said there was nothing "courageous" in his actions.
Rev Poobalan insisted he was not interested in a popularity contest.
He said: "What governed my human response was the Christian teaching 'love your neighbour as yourself' and that was honestly my first thought, 'I have to help them as a neighbour'.
"Jesus Christ wasn't one who wanted to be liked and I don't expect people to like me or the Church for what we do.

"We don't go into this blindly, we go into this knowingly and we don't go around trying to please people.
"It was simply a gut feeling to let them in after seeing someone in the cold praying and I believe that prayer is never wrong.
"There is nothing wrong with making them comfortable."

Kano Explosions: How Low Phone Battery Saved My Life - Survivor

Photo - Kano explosions: How Low Phone Battery Saved My Life - Survivor
One of the survivors of the multiple explosions in Sabon Gari Motor Park, Kano, Emy Osodi, yesterday recounted to Leadership how he escaped death from the explosions that took place on Monday.

An official of a leading telecommunications coy, Osodi disclosed that he was a passenger in one of the bombed Lagos-bound luxurious buses. His last-minute decision to charge his low battery phone saved his life, he said.

According to the survivor, he had just commenced his two-week leave and was looking forward to celebrating the Easter with his family in Lagos.

Staying away from home for almost six months is not his usual way but, due to his tight schedule, he had not been able to visit his family in a while. So, he decided to pay his family a surprise visit by taking the Lagos-bound night bus from Kano to arrive in the morning of Tuesday, but fate had other plans.

A colleague had dropped him off at the park and they spent a few minutes talking about how they would spend the Easter in Lagos.

He bought his ticket and secured a seat inside the luxurious bus after his colleague had driven off. The park was busy as usual with hawkers moving from bus to bus looking for buyers of their wares, travellers queuing to buy tickets, kids playing around and family members saying goodbyes to loved ones.

“It was going to be a long journey and my battery was low. So, I alighted from the bus to charge my phone in a shop as the driver was still awaiting more passengers.

“Some minutes later, I heard a loud noise; more explosions followed. I turned only to see fire caused by the explosion from buses including the bus I alighted from. It was beyond belief.

“People, luggage, buses and shops were burning. As people looked for escape routes, the dead and dying people were trampled upon.

“I stood where I was, shivering and trying to recover from the shock and fear that I would have been in one of the buses that exploded,” Osodi said.

Alleged Thief Accuses Police Of Bias, Tells Them To Focus On Politicians And Senators Who Are The Real Thieves

“I earn N12, 000 a month which is too small. We are all criminals in Nigeria and we have criminal blood in our body so nobody should pretend.”---says alleged thief.

The-suspects_-360x225

A security guard nabbed for allegedly conniving with robbers to steal goods worth over N28m from his employer, has told the police to stop going after petty thieves like him and instead focus their attention on politicians, especially senators and House members, whom he described as the “real thieves.”

The suspect, Garba Sani who works with Honda Place Company, complained that the N12, 000 he received as salary was too meagre and said he had no choice but to take to crime.

He said, “I’m not an armed robber. I was on duty and I called them (other suspects) and we took the goods. We did not carry guns. We have a lot of senators looting and we also need money. There are many thieves in Nigeria and most of us are jobless youths, we have nothing.

“I earn N12, 000 a month which is too small. We are all criminals in Nigeria and we have criminal blood in our body so nobody should pretend.”

The other suspect, Godwin Okwudili, said the police should drop all charges levelled against them since the stolen goods had since been recovered.

“Sani and I live in the same area. He called me that the goods were available and we went to take them. We did not carry guns. I took the goods to my warehouse and we did not sell them. Everything was recovered intact so what do they (police) want again?” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide who corroborated the suspects’ story, said that Sani, Okwudili, along with the other suspects, Obinna Ilojebe, Ndubuisi Ike and Anthony Etemah were arrested following painstaking investigation which lasted for over eight months.

Andrew Wardle, Man Born Without Penis, To Have Surgery That Will Make Organ From Arm

Andrew Wardle Penis
A man's arm is lending him a hand to fix his penis problem.

Andrew Wardle, a 39-year-old British man born without a penis, will undergo three surgeries over the next year to craft a male sex organ out of his own arm, according to the Sun.
Wardle was born with an ectopic bladder, meaning it's outside of his body. An estimated one in 30 million men are born with the condition, which "usually sees a small fold of skin, less than an inch long, in place of the penis," according to HuffPost UK.
Several operations corrected bladder and kidney problems and enabled him to urinate through a tube.
Verging on suicide a few years ago because of his missing manhood. Wardle visited a doctor who said it's possible to fabricate a functioning member.

From the Sun:
His surgeons must build from scratch a new penis that can pass urine, have feeling, make sex possible and look natural too. They’ll use a large flap of forearm skin, with its blood vessels and nerves, fold it into a tube like a Swiss roll and graft it on to the pubic area.

Despite not being able to have "full sex" with women, Wardle boasted he's had more than 100 partners, according to HuffPost UK.

The Best Ab Exercise…EVER

A woman planking
What is the best ab exercise? What’s the best way to tone every angle of your stomach, including your obliques?

It’s called…a plank. What is a plank? Quite simply, it’s an isometric exercise for the abs (where you perform one action, holding still for the entire duration of the move). You may be learning the plank exercise for the first time or you may already use it regularly in your workouts. But guess what? Most trainers consider the plank to be one of the most effective abs exercises.

Not only does it strengthen and firm your abs, but also works all the core muscles — the back, hips, etc.

How To Perform The Move

Place hands on the floor, wrists or elbows aligned under shoulders, and extend legs back so your body is straight from head to heels. Another version of this is a side plank (shown in photo), where the right hand is on the floor, aligned under shoulders, while the left arm rests on the thigh, the body is lifted off the floor, and the legs are stacked one on top of the other. Hold your position for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If performing the side plank, hold the position for 30 seconds, then switch to the other side (with the left hand on the floor, and the right arm resting on the thigh).

Kano Bombing: How Suicide Bomber Rammed Car-bomb into Passengers Causing the Deadly Explosion

The blasts happened along New Road in Sabon Gari, shortly after 5pm when luxury buses were preparing to travel to other parts of the country.

Survivors told our correspondent that a suicide bomber drove a Volkswagen Golf car into the motor park, meant for passengers traveling to the southern part of the country, and rammed into a Lagos-bound bus which was driving out of the park with dozens of passengers on board. The resulting explosion destroyed the vehicle and set fire to others within the vicinity. There were reports of a second explosion soon after the first one.

Witnesses said many passengers, park attendants and hawkers were caught in the explosions and were burnt beyond recognition, while many others sustained various degrees of injuries. There were conflicting figures of the dead yesterday, with some witnesses saying as many as 60 people were killed.

President of the Ohaneze Ndigbo in Kano State, Chief Tobias Micheal Idika, who said he arrived at the scene immediately after the blast, put the casualty figure at over 60. “I counted over 60 dead bodies and up till now bodies are being removed,” he said. ‘Confusion’ A female survivor Fatima Abdullahi, who was on a business trip to Port Harcourt, told Daily Trust she saw many bodies on the ground after the explosion. “We could see people engulfed in flames inside other buses just before our own also caught fire,” she said.

“The police later started evacuating the dead ones in carts and placing them in vehicles. All the passengers in the first bus perished, as well as other people on the ground, including the attendants that sold ticket to me.” She added that all her luggage and those of her would-be co-travellers were completely destroyed by the resulting fire.

Another witness, Ibrahim Bello, was quoted by Al Jazeera as saying: “I ran for my dear life and managed to get out of the park after the second blast. Many people are lying dead. See, my clothes are covered in blood.” A medic quoted in agency reports also said: “I saw three buses on fire. One of them was fully loaded with passengers waiting to leave the station at the time of the blasts.”
More
A security source confirmed witness accounts of the incident, saying five luxury buses were burnt and scores of passengers killed. He said at least 20 dead bodies had been counted while many others were trapped in the burning buses. A mechanic, Tunde Kazeem, who works at the motor park, said the explosion was “followed by billows of black smoke and there was a lot of confusion with people rushing out of the motor park, some of them with blood on their clothes.”

Another security official told Daily Trust that up to 80 passengers were on board one of the affected vehicles and that probably less than 10 of them survived. He said the casualty level in the attack was the highest after the coordinated attacks in Kano on January 20 last year in which at least 180 people were killed.

Many of the victims were taken to various hospitals within Kano metropolis, including the Armed Forces Hospital, Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital (MMSH), Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) and others. At the MMSH our correspondent counted four severely burnt bodies being moved to the morgue, while dozens of injured people, including women, were being treated at the accident and emergency wing.
Many relations of the victims thronged the hospital crying. A neighbour to one of the victims told our correspondent that his friend, who was a mechanic, had gone to the garage to work when the incident occurred, leaving him with an injured leg.

No group has claimed responsibility for yesterday’s attack up to the time of filing this report last night. But suspicion is likely to fall on the insurgent group that claimed previous deadly strikes in Kano. Last year, an explosion of smaller magnitude at the same park left some people dead and others injured.

Breast cancer patients who eat cheese, yogurts or ice cream could HALVE their chances of survival

Eating one portion of a product containing full-fat milk each day could hinder survival chances

The hormone oestrogen found in milk and other dairy foods may encourage tumour growth, say researchers

This is the first study to show such a strong link between dairy products and breast cancer

One ice cream or yoghurt a day could hinder the survival of women with breast cancer, scientists say.
Those with the disease who eat a single portion daily of a product containing full-fat milk could be 50 per cent more likely to die.
US scientists suspect this is because milk and other dairy foods contain the hormone oestrogen, which encourages tumour growth.
There is already some evidence that diet plays a role in improving the chances of surviving cancer and preventing it returning. But this is the first study to show such a strong link between dairy products and breast cancer.

Around one in eight women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lives and there are around 50,000 new cases a year.

Although survival chances are far better than other forms of the illness it still leads to 11,800 deaths annually.
Scientists from the Kaiser Permanente research centre in California looked at the records of 1,500 women diagnosed with breast cancer between 1997 and 2000.
They had all completed questionnaires on how often they consumed dairy products, the sizes of portions and what specifically they ate. The most common were ice cream, yogurts, cheese, full-fat lattes and hot chocolates.
The scientists found that those who ate just one portion of one of these products a day were 50 per cent more likely to die from the illness within 12 years.

They point out that most milk consumed in Britain and the U.S. comes from pregnant cows and is rich in the hormone oestrogen.
This is known to trigger tumour growth and there are particularly high levels in full-fat dairy foods.
In fact women who ate one portion of full-fat dairy a day were 64 per cent more likely to die from any cause - not just breast cancer.
Dr Bette Caan, who led the research said: 'High-fat dairy is generally not recommended as part of a healthy diet.
'Switching to low-fat dairy is an easy thing to modify.'
Many women who have just been diagnosed with breast cancer ask their doctor whether they should change their diet.
But so far there is just too little research on the subject for them to give any specific advice.

Susan Kutner, chair Kaiser Permanente Northern California Regional Breast Care Task Force, said: 'Women have been clamouring for this type of information.
'They're asking us, 'Tell me what I should eat?' With this information, we can be more specific about recommending low-fat dairy products.'
Sally Greenbrook, Senior Policy Officer at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: 'This study specifically looks at women who have already been diagnosed with breast cancer and how low or high fat dairy products may affect them.
'Any women who have had breast cancer and are concerned about their diet should discuss this with their doctors.
'For a number of health reasons it's advisable that all women should follow a healthy balanced diet. It helps you to maintain a healthy weight which, together with good practices such as lower alcohol intake and regular physical activity, can help to reduce your breast cancer risk and improve overall well-being.
'There are many risk factors for breast cancer, not just diet.'
There is no evidence of a link between hormone replacement therapy and breast cancer, research published in the British Medical Journal suggests.
The study at the University of Cape Town Medical School looked at HRT use and the incidence of breast cancer in 11 countries. It found that the benefits of the drug in alleviating menopause symptoms outweigh any possible risks.

Pubs start selling 100% horsemeat burgers in wake of the scandal... and they're a hit!

  • Two pubs in London have sold hundreds since horsemeat scandal hit
  • Owners say diners are driven by curiosity
  • Sizes vary between the 2oz taster-size Shetland at £4 to the £11 Triple Trojan

Pubs in London have begun to serve horse meat burgers - and found them to be a huge hit with customers.

One pub said demand is so high that it is selling more than 100 in a week. The scandal of horse being labelled as beef has actually helped increase demand for the meat.

The Lord Nelson in Southwark introduced the dish a fortnight ago, while The Three Compasses in Hackney began grilling 100 per cent horse meat burgers earlier this week.

The Three Compasses serves the patties with black pepper mayonnaise, onion, lettuce, pickles, Emmental cheese, ketchup and a fried egg.

Chef Michael Brown - who described the taste as ‘very much like beef in texture and ever so slightly gamey’ - said 50 burgers sold out in hours on Tuesday night.

Owner Lauren Johns said: ‘All across Europe, horse is considered a high-quality meat.

We thought it’d be nice for people to try it and realise it’s really nice if prepared and sourced properly.”

There are four sizes of burger named on an equine theme, from the 2oz taster-size Shetland at £4 to the £11 Triple Trojan. The meat comes from France.

The Lord Nelson serves 8oz burgers with mushrooms and onions for £11. Extra toppings include goats’ cheese, brie and jalapeno peppers. It reported selling more than 100 in a week.

Co-owner Benito Priolo said: ‘It’s leaner and denser than beef and points in the direction of liver.’

For £16, the pub serves the 50/50 Burger - which involves one burger each made from horse and beef.
