Small plane crashes into US apartment

HERNDON, Va. -- Two people were taken to a hospital after a two-seat, single engine Cessna crashed into the living room of a third-story apartment outside Washington, Virginia State Police said Friday.
The plane crashed through the roof of the apartment building in Herndon after it had electrical problems and its engine cut off, and came to rest on the living room floor, police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. The tail of the plane poked through the roof and a window of the apartment appeared to be blown out.
Ms Geller says the men were taking infrared photographs for an aerial photography company. They were on their way to Manassas from Philadelphia, but rerouted to Dulles when they ran low on fuel.
Ms Geller says the pilot was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A woman who was in the apartment was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Red Cross is helping nine adults, seven children and pets who had to leave the building.

56 Boko Haram insurgents apprehended with the help of Military Police dogs

A total of 56 Boko Haram insurgents have been apprehended with the help of Military Police dogs, Nigeria’s Defence spokesman confirmed in his latest update on the ongoing war against terror in the North-East states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
“Items recovered from the arrested insurgents include 7 packs of  IEDs, 2 Rocket Propelled Gun chargers, a rifle magazine, 2 machetes, bomb detonators, camouflage and other military uniforms as well as medicines equipment, charms, 7 vehicles including a Jeep and 8 tri-cycles. It is believed that some stranded terrorists are keen on establishing new camps. They are being trailed accordingly. There were also a few encounters with some insurgents in forest locations apart from the identified and destroyed camps,” said Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Olukolade, in the latest Mission Update which reached News Express this evening.
He also disclosed an undisclosed community exposed another group of terrorists in search of food.
Said Brig.-Gen. Olukolade: “The intensive cordon and search operation being conducted by the troops of the Special Forces received a major boost from civilian cooperation in communities close to locations being focused in the operation yesterday. A group of terrorists moving from village to village in search of large quantity of food were tracked and apprehended following a tip off from civilians. The group which was moving around in a Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep with registration number Borno XA 428 ADM which is suspected to have been stolen was eventually arrested at Daban Masara with weapons such as AK 47 rifle, single barrel shotgun, double hand shotgun and various calibres of ammunition.”
The Defence spokesman assured that “the campaign to rid the nation’s territories of the insurgents continues.”

Blind Chinese mother sold FOUR of her newborn children because her husband couldn't hold down a steady job

A blind Chinese woman has admitted to selling four of her new-born children to support her family because her husband can't hold down a steady job.

Between 2005 and 2012 Du Xiurong, from Shibei Village in Mianyang, south-west China's Sichuan Province, sold four of her new newborn babies - three girls and one boy.

In total Du, has given birth to six children, but has only kept her eldest son and eldest daughter.

Desperate measures: Du Xiurong, pictured with her grandson, admits she has sold four of her children in order to raise money to support her family after her husband was unable to hold down a steady job

Poverty: Between 2005 and 2012 Du, from Shibei Village in Mianyang, south-west China's Sichuan Province, sold four of her new newborn babies - three girls and one boy - for a total of 10,000 yuan (£1,070)

'I love babies': She says that if she were capable to support the youngsters then she would have kept them all

'I have no other choice. If I were not blinded I wouldn't have to do this,' she said.

'I am not selling them out, but giving them away. In return I only charge a bit for pregnancy fees.

'I love babies. If I were capable, I definitely would bring them up. But I really can't support them. I then find them good families to adopt them.'

Claiming that she has done nothing wrong, Du said: 'I gave out babies to families which can't give birth. They want babies and I helped them.'

She added: 'Rich people give out money for a daughter's wedding. Middle-class people earn money for a daughter's marriage, and poor people sell sons and daughters.'

Rural: As China has a one-child policy, Du has had to hide her pregnancies from the village officials

Hard life: Du was blinded in an accident when she was five, and she got married when she was 14

'My parents saw me as a burden': Du was married off as soon as they found someone who wanted her

Scratching out a living: However, she soon found that her husband was unable to hold down a job

Poor: As Du's son and daughter grew up the family found themselves in need of money for the their education

This January Du was detained for selling her babies, but she was released not long after due to her disability.

According to Du, who was blinded in an accident when she was five, she got married when she was 14.

'My parents saw me as a burden,,' she said. 'They wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible. So when they knew someone wanted to get married with me they couldn't wait to push me out'.

However, she soon found that her husband was unable to hold down a job.

'As a normal person, he can't earn any money. On the contrary, I, a blinded person, had to support the whole family,' she said.

Du gave birth to her first baby, a boy, Cheng Jin, in 1991. Then in 2000 she gave birth to her first daughter, Sun Miao.

As Du's first son and daughter grew up the family were found themselves in need of money for the children's education.

So Du made a choice, which was to give birth and sell her babies. In 2005, Du sold her second daughter for 2,500 Yuan (£268). In the following seven years Du sold three more babies.

Tough decision: Du sold a daughter for 2,500 yuan in 2005 and, over the next seven years, sold three more

'I'll give the boy a good education, even if I have to sell everything': Du has now has become a grandmother and she is already planning how to raise money for her grandson's future education

As China has a one-child policy, Du has had to hide her pregnancies from the village officials. 'If I was discovered, they would force me to abort. I can't let them do that,' she said.

In total Du has sold her four children for around 10,000 Yuan (£1,070).

Du has now has become a grandmother and she is already planning how to raise money for her grandson's future education.

'I'll give the boy a good education, even if I have to sell everything.'

Snake Attack!...Missing Man Found Dead In His Home Surrounded By Over 40 Giant Snakes!

COPS looking for a missing man were shocked to find him dead in his home — surrounded by over FORTY giant snakes.

some of the 46 snakes found in the apartment

Many of the reptiles, including a 30ft anaconda and four 35ft pythons, were slithering free around the decomposing body when police entered snake fan Heiko Rieder's apartment in Straubing, Germany.
A fire service spokesman said: "At least one was as thick as a human thigh."

Central European News

Worried colleagues alerted police after the 40-year-old caretaker failed to turn up to work for a week.
It is thought he died from a heart attack while feeding his pets.
Experts believe he was only saved from being eaten as he was too WIDE to be swallowed whole.
Reptile centre boss Markus Baur, now caring for the snakes, said: "They probably didn't eat him for two reasons. One, they prefer their prey alive to start with.
"And two, they like to eat their prey whole and the average European adult is just too long and wide for that."
In total, 46 snakes, some in tanks, were recovered from the property.
A police spokesman said: "His body decomposed rapidly because of the heat coming from the snakes' terrariums. There don't appear to be any suspicious circumstances."

Pencil Removed From Man's Head 15 Years Later... and he never knew it was there!

BERLIN -- German doctors say a man spent 15 years with a pencil in his head following a childhood accident.
Aachen University Hospital says the 24-year-old man from Afghanistan sought help in 2011 after suffering for years from headaches, constant colds and worsening vision in one eye. A scan showed that a 10-centimeter (4-inch) pencil was lodged from his sinus to his pharynx and had injured his right eye socket.
The unnamed man said he didn't know how the pencil got there but recalled that he once fell badly as a child.
The German doctors removed the pencil and say the man has recovered.
Hospital spokesman Mathias Brandstaedter said Wednesday the case was presented for the first time at a medical conference this week.

April Jones' Murderer Mark Bridger Sentenced To Life In Prison

Mark Bridger, who abducted and murdered five-year-old April Jones before disposing of her remains, was given a whole life sentence at Mold Crown Court.

Bridger, 47, was given a whole life sentence by trial judge Mr Justice Griffith Williams after he was convicted by a jury at Mold Crown Court of April's abduction and murder and of perverting the course of justice by unlawfully disposing, destroying or concealing her body.

Bridger stood impassively as sentence was handed down but shook his head when the judge addressed his perverted interest in violent child abuse.

Mark Bridger is led to a police van

The judge called him a "pathological and glib liar," adding: "There is no doubt in my mind that you are a paedophile, who has for some time harboured sexual and morbid fantasies about young girls."

The judge said Bridger had stored on his laptop "not only images of pre-pubescent and pubescent girls but foul pornography of the gross sexual abuse of young children.

"What prompted you on Monday October 1 to live out one of those fantasies is a matter for speculation, but it may have been a combination of the ending of one sexual relationship and your drinking.

"Whatever, you set out to find a little girl to abuse. I am not sure you targeted April specifically - it was probably fortuitous that she can be seen on some of the images which you stored on your laptop of her older sister - but you were on the prowl for a young girl."

He said that the happy five-year-old "would not have been afraid of you, partly because you have some charm and she may well have seen you about the estate and probably because you let her know your son was a friend of her brother.. And so it was that, innocently and trustingly, April got into your Land Rover smiling and happy."

"You abducted her for a sexual purpose and then murdered her and disposed of her body to hide the evidence of your sexual abuse of her, which probably occurred on the way from the estate to your home because there is some 60 minutes of your time which cannot be accounted for.

"I cannot infer from the evidence where you murdered her but if she was alive when you took her to the house, she died there.

"The grief of April's parents cannot be over-stated. They lived with the torment of a missing daughter, praying that she would be found alive and then, following your arrest, with the knowledge that you were providing the police with no assistance at all as to her whereabouts.

"To add to that torment, they have had to endure the spectacle of your hypocritical sympathy for their loss and of your tears, flowing not because of any regret for your crimes, but because of your enduring self-pity."

He said he had "no doubt" that the only appropriate sentence was a whole life order.

Earlier, April Jones's mother Coral described in heart-breaking terms the impact of her daughter's death.

Mrs Jones, in a victim impact statement read to the court by prosecutor Elwen Evans, said April was born prematurely, weighing only 4lb and 2oz, and was in intensive care for two weeks.

April's body has still not been found

Mrs Jones said she had to watch her other children, "grieve for the loss of their little sister who they would carry upstairs because sometimes she was in too much pain to walk".

"She fought to come into the world, she fought to stay in this world, and he has taken her, not only from us, but from everyone who loved her.

"I will never see her smile again or hear her stomping around upstairs and onto the landing.

"We will never see her bring home her first boyfriend and Paul will never walk her down the aisle.

"How will we ever get over it?"

Mrs Jones, with her hair dyed red and wearing a patterned blouse, stared at the defendant as he was brought in.

Detective Superintendent Andy John, who led the hunt for April's killer, said: "Mark Bridger is an evil and manipulative individual.

"I think we have clearly identified during the course of our inquiries and during the course of the investigation that he is somebody who fantasises, he is somebody who likes to be in control and clearly believes that what he says is the true version of events.

"He is somebody that can't be trusted and, ultimately, he is somebody who has committed the most horrific of crimes."

Police believe Bridger, who was experienced in "survival and bushcraft", dismembered April in his lounge before getting rid of her body in the forests and waterways in the hills surrounding his home.

Bridger apparently confided in the prison chaplain, telling him he may have disposed of April's body in a river.

The screen in the dock was taken down just before the sentencing hearing so Mr and Mrs Jones would have a clear view of the defendant.

Bridger nodded and closed his eyes when his barrister Brendan Kelly QC said it was likely that he would spend the rest of his life in prison.

In a very brief speech Mr Kelly said there was very little, "if any", mitigation available to him.

He said he was "loathe" to raise the issue but one area of mitigation was the fact there was only one victim in the case and that Bridger "was not a repeat offender."

In a statement, Ed Beltrami, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wales, said: "Ever since his first interview with police in October last year, Mark Bridger has relentlessly spun a web of lies and half-truths to try and distance himself from the truly horrific nature of the crime he perpetrated.

"He has refused to take responsibility for what he did to April and has stopped at nothing to try and cover his tracks."

He added: "Working together, we have been able to comprehensively dismantle Bridger's version of events and expose him as a violent, cold-hearted murderer and a calculated liar.

"I would like to record our thanks to everyone who supported the prosecution of this case. Everyone who has provided a statement to police or given evidence in court has played their part in today's verdict.

"At the very heart of this case are April's family, who have been through - and continue to go through - an ordeal of appalling magnitude. They have conducted themselves with a humbling dignity throughout.

"We can only hope that today's verdict will be of some help to them as they continue to try and come to terms with the loss of April."

Phillip Noyes, acting CEO of the NSPCC, said: "It seems Bridger lived in a fantasy world which included looking at child abuse images online.

"For some time we have been concerned about the growing number of these obscene images which are becoming more easily available and can fuel the fantasies of offenders like Bridger.

"This case points to the ever-growing evidence that there is a worrying link between looking at this vile kind of material and committing other serious sexual assaults.

"April's death will hopefully lead to effective measures to stamp out this vile trade."

Photos: The baby flushed down a toilet in China is collected from hospital by his grandparents

The newborn baby rescued from a sewage pipe in China has been taken from the hospital by police and its maternal grandparents, officials said today.
The infant has been returned to his family after authorities decided he became trapped because of an accident.
The unnamed mother claimed she fell pregnant following a one night stand - and then the father of the baby boy abandoned her.
The 22-year-old woman said she could not afford an abortion or cope with the stigma of being a single mother.
Now, the man has requested a paternity test and - if the baby is his - is ready to discuss with the woman how to support the child, according to an official in the Pujiang county propaganda office.

Police concluded that the 22-year-old single woman faces no charges, deciding she did not initially step forward because she was frightened, and that she gradually had a change of heart and began to tell the truth, said the official.
Last night, his maternal grandparents and police arrived at Pujiang Hospital to take the baby to a rural location, office director Chen Pandong said.
'The police department and the family member came together. This (was) definitely (done) in accordance with our rules for leaving the hospital,' added Chen.
Chinese media said she went to the shared bathroom in a residential complex when she felt abdominal cramps last Saturday and gave birth.
But she said the baby slipped into the sewer pipe and she was unable to free him.

She also claimed she was the first to raise the initial alarm and the watched the entire two-hour rescue in secret.
The 6lb 2.8oz baby boy was found abandoned in a sewage pipe in a building in the eastern city of Jinhua on Saturday afternoon, after residents reported hearing sounds of crying.
Firefighters had to remove the pipe and take it to a nearby hospital, where doctors carefully cut around it to rescue the baby inside.
Outside the apartment block, a man who saw the rescue, Xu Qiangding showed reporters a photo he took when the baby was found.
'When the rescuers came out, they cut the pipe open, and they took out the placenta which was still bleeding.
'We saw them pulling this out and thought it was an awful sight. It was clear what the thing inside the pipe was. The doctor said he was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The landlord of the building in Pujiang county told Zhejiang News that it was unlikely the birth took place in the restroom because there was no evidence of blood and she was not aware of any recent pregnancies among her tenants.
The baby was stuck in an L-shaped portion of the sewage pipe with a diameter of about 3 inches.
The video shows rescuers sawing off a section of the pipe along a ceiling that apparently was just below the restroom.
His eyes, face and body were covered in the filth of the pipe.
There are frequent reports in Chinese media of babies being abandoned often shortly after birth, a problem attributed variously to young mothers unaware they were pregnant, the birth of an unwanted girl in a society which puts greater value on boys or China’s strict family planning rules.
The case has raised discussion of China's lack of proper education about sex and birthing in many schools.

Dolce & Gabbana designers currently embroiled in a €400 million tax evasion suit

Going from rubbing shoulders with Anna Wintour to navigating prison life might seem like a strange path, but Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana could do just that.

The Dolce & Gabbana designers are currently embroiled in a €400 million tax evasion suit, and they could face up to five years in jail. Women's Wear Daily reports that, in his closing speech, Prosecutor Gaetano Ruta specifically requested that Dolce and Gabbana each receive a sentence of two-and-a-half years imprisonment. They'd certainly miss quite a few of the brand's show-stopping runway shows if that comes to pass...

But fashion must be the least of the pair's problems. Each designer is accused ofevading around €200 million in taxes(€400 million altogether) after the 2004 sale of the D&G and Dolce & Gabbana brands to Gado, a holding company in Luxembourg. These alleged actions are said to have been carried out along with board member Cristiana Ruella and accountant Luciano Patelli, both of whom received their own prison sentence suggestions from the prosecutor at the Milan courthouse (the latter received the "harshest" at three years).

The idea of such high-profile fashion designers serving time certainly chips away at the glamorous image that the brand has built. If they're sentenced, would your view of Dolce & Gabbana be altered?

Photos/Video: Miracle baby plucked ALIVE from a toilet pipe after being flushed away by parents

Firefighters in eastern China rescued a newborn baby boy who was flushed down a sewage pipe. Residents in the building in Jinhua raised the alarm after hearing a child crying and rescue workers eventually found him directly beneath the toilet commode. They cut away a section of the pipe and then took the infant to the Pujiang County People’s Hospital where medics were able to carefully remove the baby, pictured left. The child, who was said to be in a critical condition when he arrived at the hospital, is now stable and being nursed back to health, pictured centre. Though there are frequent reports of babies being abandoned in China, the case has sparked fury on social media websites.

The infant was heard crying in a section of the pipe directly beneath a toilet commode, the country’s state television reported earlier today.
Firefighters had to remove the pipe and take it to a nearby hospital where doctors carefully used saws to rescue the baby boy.

Boko Haram’s Failed Plan To Hijack Commercial Aircraft and Crash It Into Aso Rock

President Goodluck Jonathan has said the State of Emergency declared in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states may not last six months as prescribed by the constitution in view of the successes recorded even as it has been gathered that before the deployment of troops, Boko Haram sect had planned to hijack a commercial plane and crash it into the Presidential Villa or other national monuments.
photo
President Jonathan who met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki Moon on the sideline of the Africa Union conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said the military operation in the troubled states was going very well and the military has strictly adhered to the rules of engagement.
He explained that the successes recorded by the military was exemplified by the lack of collateral civilian casualties, noting that the operation has helped in creating a better relationship between the civilian population and members of the armed forces.
The president told the Secretary General of the United Nations that the government would do everything possible to ensure that the civilian population was not put through hardship, adding that the governments’s decision to release women and children members of the Boko Haram was in the spirit of the rules of engagement of the operation.
The Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Ban Ki Moon, sympathized with the government and people of Nigeria over activities of Boko Haram, saying that terrorism was a global phenomenon that must be confronted by the international community.
He reiterated his call on the Nigerian military engaged in operations in the affected states where state of emergency has been declared to be prudent and cautious in protecting the civilian population in the areas of operation.
Mr Moon also thanked President Jonathan for Nigeria’s contributions to peace keeping operations of the United Nations.
Meanwhile, as the military onslaught against Boko Haram terrorists continues, Vanguard has gathered that before May 14 when President Goodluck Jonathan declared a State of emergency, credible intelligence revealed plans by the sect to hijack commercial aircraft fully loaded with passengers and use it to attack one of three national monuments.
Boko Haram plans to attack national monuments
These are Aso Rock, the seat of the Federal Government, the Central Bank Headquarters, CBN, Glass house and the Four Towers headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
It was gathered that the terrorists would have carried out the attack on Aso Rock and NNPC Towers similar to the September 11 attack on the Twin Towers in the United States with all the passengers on board and send a message that they have taken over affairs of running Nigeria.
Aside the planned attack, Vanguard was told by very competent security sources that the acquisition of Anti-Aircraft Gun and Long Range Surface to air technical guns by the sect, was meant to shoot down aircraft that flew over the North Eastern parts of the country, especially as the terrorists had hoisted their flags in Yobe and Borno states.
According to the sources, “Consequent upon our discovery of their plot, security agencies warned the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, and other aviation agencies to stop local and international aircraft from over flying the North East airspace to avoid collateral damage.
“This warning was heeded and for about three weeks before the State of Emergence was declared, commercial aircraft, both local and international were diverted from over flying the North East areas except military aircraft”.
It was to unearthing the ammunition and heavy weapons capability of the Boko Haram sect that troops of the multi-national Joint Task Force on reconnaissance mission to the Mosque in Baga, where some of the anti-aircraft guns were to be mounted, were attacked and when reinforcement came, they fired the weapons at the soldiers.
“As I am talking to you, many people will not know that in one of the deadly Boko Haram attacks and coordinated bombings in Kano State, that resulted in the destruction of the headquarters of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 1, and the killing of over 120 people, including about 40 Policemen, over 15 Immigration, Customs and Federal Road Safety officers, the terrorists tried getting to the Kano Airport”, the source said.
Vanguard was further told that the terrorists shot at an Air Force Helicopter gunship from the dreaded Sambisa Forests where several camps for recruitment, training and IEDS construction were located, using anti-aircraft technical guns from mounted vehicles, confirmed that indeed the terrorists were on course to carry out that plot.
From Borno and Yobe states, the ultimate strategy of the terrorists was to launch a jihadist type of invasion of the entire Northern part of the country hence the gradual build up of arms depots and training/recruitment centres in several parts of Yobe, Borno and lately Adamawa states where several raids were carried out on banks, prisons and police stations
It would be recalled that Vanguard exclusively reported in April, during President Goodluck Jonathan’s official visit to Borno and Yobe states, that plans by Boko Haram terrorists to shoot at the Presidential Jet were uncovered hence the flooding of the two states with security operatives and deployment of technical equipment with ability to intercept signals of such attacks.
Following these deployments and raids by the Joint Task Force code named ‘Operation Restore Order’, two anti-aircraft guns, several anti-aircraft bombs, GPMG’s, AK 47 Rifles and other heavy weaponry were recovered in some houses in Maiduguri.

Angelina Jolie’s aunt has died of chest cancer less than two weeks after Jolie had a double mastectomy to avoid the disease

Angelina Jolie’s aunt has died of chest cancer less than two weeks after Jolie had a preventative double mastectomy to avoid the disease.
Debbie Martin died at age 61 on Sunday in a San Diego hospital.
Debbie Martin was the younger sister of Jolie’s mother Marcheline Bertrand, whose own death from cancer in 2007 inspired the surgery that Jolie described in a May 14 New York Times article.
“I can tell my children they don’t need to fear they will lose me to chest cancer,” she wrote.
According to her husband Ron Martin, Debbie Martin had the same defective BRCA1 gene that Jolie does, but didn’t know it until after her 2004 cancer diagnosis.
He says had his wife known in advance of her genetic risk, “she would have done exactly what Angelina did.”
“Angelina did the smartest thing on earth,” he told People.com. “It takes a lot of courage to have your breasts removed.”
Jolie and her brother had visited Mrs Martin several times, Mr Martin said.
“Angelina has been sending her wishes,”he said.
“She and my wife texted each other. It was difficult for my wife, during the last few months, to communicate.”

New Terror Group Emerges In Nigeria

As the country grapples with the terror activities of the fundamentalist Boko Haram sect, another terror group, Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa, has emerged.
Our correspondents gathered that the new sect also has a strong presence in Niger Republic.
Currently, two terrorist groups exist in Nigeria — Boko Haram and Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi Biladis Sudan.
SUNDAY PUNCH reports that there are fears in security circles that MOJAO may infiltrate the country due to the porous nature of Nigeria’s borders.
Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, had last week said there were 1,497 illegal routes into the country.
MOJAO, a splinter group of the international terror group, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, is after military operatives and facilities of countries that are complementing France’s efforts in quelling terrorists’ insurgency in Mali.
Besides Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Bukina Faso are involved in military operations in Mali.
On Thursday, the Jihadist group claimed responsibility for a twin suicide bombing attack at the Nigerian/Nigerien border.
No fewer than 26, mostly Nigerien soldiers, were killed and about 30 injured, in the multiple attacks.
MOJAO spokesman, Abu Walid Sahraoui, said the attacks were targeted at “the enemies of Islam.”
“We attacked Niger Republic because of its co-operation with France in the war against Sharia,” he added.
A highly placed security official told one of our correspondents that the group had been in existence since 2011.
According to the official, who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the subject, MOJAO poses a threat to Nigeria’s security.
He said, “We now have to prevent them from infiltrating Nigeria; we have enough Boko Haram challenges. Don’t forget that members of Boko Haram, who were dislodged from Sambisa Games Reserve and other camps in Borno State fled to neigbouring states and the Niger Republic. So many of them from Abadan, Malam Fatori and other villages, are now refugees in Difa, Niger Republic. They can decide to pitch tents with MOJAO.
“MOJAO has attacked barracks in Niger, which is similar to what Boko Haram does in Nigeria. This new group may want to do the same in here majorly because we are also involved in the Malian operation — which is one of their grievances.
“They are also likely to target our soldiers at the border.”
When SUNDAY PUNCH contacted the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen Chris Olukolade, on Friday about the threat of the new group, he said efforts were on to sensitise all military formations across the country to exhibit a high level of alertness.
Olukolade said the Nigerian troops were at the border with Niger in line with the military’s decision
He said, “Our troops are everywhere. They have been at the border since the beginning of the operation.
“Military formations are being sensitised on the need to maintain a high level of alertness in all locations whether or not they are involved in any operation or exercises.
“The public is implored to be vigilant and ensure that they report all suspicious movements or activities to security agencies promptly.”
President Goodluck Jonathan had on May 14, 2013, during a national broadcast, declared a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states.
This was in response to the activities of suspected terrorists in North-Eastern part of Nigeria.
Some sections of Nigeria’s border with Niger pass through Yobe and Borno states.
Meanwhile, Adamawa State has begun the registration of residents of communities in its domain as a precautionary step against infiltration by militants fleeing military bombardment in Borno State.
SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that holders of the traditional titles of Sarkin Matasa (youth leaders) in communities across the state were driving the project.
A military source in the state said, “Adamawa State through the emirate council has introduced a house-to-house count of people in the state. This is to enable all wards leaders to know the exact number of persons per household and to check infiltrators in Borno.”
The source, who pleaded anonymity, added that suspected Boko Haram members, who had fled northern Borno, were regrouping at Zumo area of Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The area is believed to have a difficult topography comprising mountains, rocks, and thick forest that extends to the country’s northern border with Cameroon.
The Director, Press and Public Relations of the Adamawa State Government House, Mr. Ahmad Sajoh, confirmed the development.
He said, “What is happening is part of our pro-active measures to mitigate the effects of the state of emergency. The Sarkin Matasa, who are traditional title holders in the state’s Emirate Council, will mobilise people to be pro-active.
“What they are doing is to encourage the people to open registers, either in writing or using indigenous methods, to keep track of residents of a given area.
“You know, counter-insurgency cannot succeed without security winning the hearts and minds of the people. With this method, the people will know one another better and will be able to account for members of the community, in case they

5 Biggest Causes Of Belly Fat

There are pills and exercises on the market today that claim to erase belly fat effortlessly. However, changes in a person’s lifestyle are a more direct and more effective approach to eliminating the problem. Excessive belly fat increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and even Alzheimer’s disease.

Here are 5 of the most common causes of belly fat.

1. Drinking Too Much Alcohol

“Beer belly” is the common term for excess fat that has accumulated due to drinking a lot of alcohol on a regular basis. Beer isn’t the only culprit, though. Contrary to the specific term, drinking an excessive amount of any alcoholic beverage can cause beer belly. (Except wine, according to research.) Alcohol contains nothing but empty calories that are stored in the stomach area.

2. Eating Too Many Bad Carbohydrates

There are good carbs and there are bad carbs. Eating unrefined carbs like fruit, legumes, vegetables and whole grains is good for you, and helps in weight control. Eating biscuits, cakes, donuts, white bread and other refined carbs does the opposite. Eat too many of these carbs and a person’s insulin level will rise. Their metabolism will slow down, and the excess sugar the body can’t use will be stored as belly fat.

3. Stress Overload

Too much stress has many negative impacts on the body. Stress causes the body to switch into survival mode. One way the body ensures its survival is by storing more fat so starvation doesn’t occur if there’s no food eaten.

Stress also causes the body to produce excessive amounts of cortisol. This hormone moves stored fat to the abdomen area and creates belly fat. According to a study by the Psychology Department at Yale University, women (in particular) who had a higher amount of belly fat were more negative, and lived with higher levels of stress.

4. Genetics

This cause of belly fat may be the toughest one to hear, because it entails not really being able to do all that much to prevent it. Genetics play a role in deciding where the fat distribution goes in your body, and it practically relates to two different body types. Either you are apple-shaped or pear-shaped. If you are pear-shaped, then the fat generally accumulates in your lower areas like your fanny. If you are apple-shaped, then your body has the tendency of storing fat around your midsection, thus leading to belly fat.

5. Sedentary Lifestyle

A sedentary lifestyle is defined as one in which a person fails to exercise regularly, or fails to get any exercise at all. The biggest problem with a sedentary lifestyle is that it can increase your chances of developing serious health conditions, which are all somewhat preventable. If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, you are raising your chances of dying younger, yet you can easily avoid this by simply moving more and exercising regularly. It commonly consists of the practice of sitting on the couch and watching too much TV. Such a lifestyle is not limited just to TV watching; it also involves reading too much or using the computer too much. Basically, if you are not moving enough, it is sedentary.

Jennifer Hudson set to return to American Idol as a judge

After clearing the judges' slate, American Idol executives have reportedly signed one of its biggest success stories, Jennifer Hudson, to help others follow in her famous footsteps.

After a lackluster season that was full of music's biggest - and most expensive - talents, Fox is changing its game plan.

On Friday, E! News reported that Jennifer had been signed up by the long running talent show that launched the star's own career.

Loosing weight, gaining jobs: American Idol executives have reportedly signed one of its biggest success stories, Jennifer Hudson, to judge next season's show

E! reported 'multiple sources' had confirmed that Oscar-winning singer 'has signed a deal to sit at the judges' table this fall for season 13'.

However, there has been no word yet how much the star - who converted her Idol fame into an Oscar win for Dreamgirls - will be paid.

While the 31-year-old did not win season three, she was one of the most popular singers to ever walk across the Idol stage.

Still a winner: The 31-year-old did not win season 3 of the show but managed to convert her Idol fame into an Oscar win for Dreamgirls

And she is not the only Idol alum reportedly preparing to sit down at the judges' table, which will once again be a three person panel.

E! said on Friday the other two spots are also intended for former Idol contestants with first season winner Kelly Clarkson the front runner and the third spot to go to either Adam Lambert or Clay Aiken.

'We're told that Clarkson is also close to signing on,' the site reported.

Not the only one: Fox is also reportedly trying to sign other former Idol alums with Kelly Clarkson, seen her last month, the front runner

In its thirtieth season, Idol has far more competition from a plethora of singing shows than ever before and fared not as well this season, prompting Fox to dump current panelists Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

Veteran judge Randy Jackson revealed his exit earlier this month.

The casting of alums is to remind viewers of just how successful the show has been in manufacturing hugely successful stars that have world wide careers long after Idol.

Judge battle: Being considered for the third spot is Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert

'It's Idol alums bringing in the next generation,' a Fox source told the website.

As with other years, Fox and Fremantal media have stayed quite on who will be sitting behind the table.
