Here's a disclaimer the editors of the esteemed Washington Post never imagined they'd have to make: It is "definitely not true" that the newspaper planned to run an exposé of an illicit affair between President Obama and pop star Beyoncé, as award-winning French photographer Pascal Rostain claimed.
"Tu dit quoi?" you ask, which is like, "Say what?" in French.
According to Rostain, the Post was set to publish the story today.
"You know, at this time, the United States, there is something big that is happening. It'll go out tomorrow in the Washington Post — we can say that it is not the gutter press — an alleged affair between President Barack Obama and Beyoncé," he told the reputable French newspaper Le Figaro on Monday.
The "news" broke as French President François Hollande, in the midst of his own personal scandale, arrived in the U.S. to meet with Obama. He also will be the guest of honor at a White House state dinner.
Hollande is alleged to have been cheating on his long-time partner, journalist and France's first unmarried first lady, Valerie Trierweiler, with a younger movie actress. The scandal was ignited when he was spotted arriving for a tryst at her apartment via motor scooter. Interestingly, it was Hollande's affaire with Trierweiler that ended his relationship with politician Segolene Royal, with whom he shares four children.
To reinforce his allegations about the U.S. president and the pop star, Rostain cited other presidential indiscretions.
"We should not forget Marilyn [Monroe] or Monica Lewinsky. You can be the president of the first world power — that doesn't make you any less a man," he said.
Today, however, the photographer retracted his claim, Le Figaroreports. He was just kidding. Oh la la!
