Police Detains Cynthia Osokogu’s Body...Family Holds Ceremonial Burial
Hundreds of sympathizers across the country, who turned up on yesterday for the burial of Miss Cynthia Udoka Osokogu, were disappointed as her remains did not arrive at the family house in Boji-Boji Owa, Delta State as scheduled.
Interment of her body was postponed till further notice despite the fact that the family had prepared the grave and requiem mass for the repose of her soul took place at Saint Dominic Catholic Church in the town,
Explaining the circumstances surrounding the absence of the corpse, father of the deceased, Major General Frank Osokogu (rtd.) said the interment could not take place following the advice of the team of police and medicals, which came from Lagos to the family in the early hours of Thursday.
He said the family was reminded that the case involving their daughter is still in court.
According to him, as soon as the legal and medical processes were through, her corpse would be released to the family for burial.
Earlier, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State had paid the Osokogus a condolence visit as early as 9.00am where he described the death of Cynthia as tragic and painful.
Accompanied by his wife, Roli, Uduaghan lamented the girl’s death at the hands of criminals, adding that what happened to her could happen to anybody.
The governor, while appraising the good of social media to advance the society, regretted that some people are using it to perpetuate criminality.
He conveyed the sympathy of government and people of Delta State to the family and wished God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
In his reaction, the traditional ruler of Owa Kingdom, HRM, Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor said the killers of Cynthia had murdered sleep, progress and development.
The action of the internet criminals, the monarch stated, was a deliberate attempt at destroying the country’s image as well as an attack on the effort of President Goodluck Jonathan and governors to bring peace to Nigeria.
In his homily at the requiem mass, Rev Fr. Leonard Biachi admonished Nigerians to turn a new leaf and shun sinful ways of life.
According to him, what happened to Cynthia was an indication that the society was not okay, adding that “we all have responsibilities to rebuild, redefine and sanitise our society,” even as he urged all to forgive one another.

Cynthia: Police Recover 50 Nude Pictures
Police detectives at the Area E Command, Lagos have said Cynthia Osokogu's killers took pictures while sexually assaulting her.
The Area Commander, Damian Okoro, said, "The pictures are contained in a recovered black Compaq 610 laptop belonging to Nwabufor Okwuomo, one of the suspects who lured the deceased to Lagos."
The laptop is also said to contain over 50 nude photographs of female victims who have fallen prey to the suspect.
Some of the photographs showed girls tied with rope and their mouths covered with cello tape with objects inserted in their private part.
Osokogu's naked photographs also showed bites and wounds inflicted all over her.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation on Wednesday said it had concluded arrangements to sue the management of Cosmilla Hotel in Festac Town, Lagos, where Osokogu was murdered by 'BlackBerry friends' over illegal operation.
The deceased was allegedly drugged, raped and dispossessed of her belongings and later killed.
The corporation also said it had issued a query to the management of the hotel to explain why had refused to register with it in accordance with laid-down rules and regulations.
A statement issued by NTDC's Director of Communications, Mr. Akin Onipede in Abuja quoted the Director-General of the corpration, Chief Segun Runsewe as saying that would "file former charges against the management of Cosmilla Hotel for illegal operation since it was not registered with the corporation."
He said, "The development which was confirmed by the Director General of the Corporation, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe revealed that a former query had been issued to the hotel to which it had replied."
"According to Otunba Runsewe, the management of the Hotel has already admitted that they had not registered with the Corporation which showed that the hotel is operating illegally."
Runsewe insisted that the law would be followed to the letter but added that the NTDC would not interfere in the ongoing investigation by the security agencies.
He said, "We will allow them (security agencies) to do their job after which we will go to court."

Topless Virgins Celebrate Chastity And Unity As They Parade In Front Of Swazi King
Thousand Of Vïrgins Took Part In The Event In Honour Of The Royal Family
Swaziland is a small landlocked country in southern Africa- ruled by the continent’s last absolute monarch. The reed dance which takes place yearly is the most well-known cultural event in the country and only childless, unmarried girls can take part. The aims of the ceremony are to preserve girls’ chastity, provide tribute labour for the Queen mother, and to encourage solidarity by working together.
This year’s event as is with every other one, saw thousands of bare-breasted young Swazi women parade themselves in front of their king in a lavish ceremony. Dressed in beaded skirts, clutching machetes and mobile phones, women and girls danced and sang tributes to the king and queen mother – also known as the Great She-Elephant – in a traditional Umhlanga Reed Dance to celebrate womanhood and virgïnity.
In the past, the king has used the ceremony to choose a new wife, and some girls still hoped to catch the king’s eye. King Mswati III, who has at least a dozen wives and a personal fortune estimated at $200million, says polygamy is part of Swazi tradition and helps cement national unity.
In a country with the world’s highest rate of HIV/AIDS, maidens still flock in from across the country – some attend the ceremony every year until they marry.
It is a good thing that Swaziland can still boast of vïrgins and maidens are proud to display their chastity but, encouraging polygamy in this manner, is confounding. What do you think?
