Nigerian Gay Church Resume Operations In Lagos

Less than five years after Nigeria-only gay church, House of Rainbow, was attacked by some Lagos residents and consequently closed down in Nigeria, the church has returned to the country with three secret groups in the African most populous nation.

nigerian_gay_church

With this development, Nigeria appears to lead other countries where the church currently operates.

Founded by Nigerian-born gay, Rev. Rowland Jide Macaulay, House of Rainbow, which came to Nigeria in 2006, is “an inclusive and affirming religious community open and welcome to all people including s*xual minorities and marginalised people, a monthly gathering of ‘people of faith’ for ‘prayer and praise’, which focuses on the person’s journey towards reconciliation of se*uality and spirituality.”

Macaulay, a trained lawyer and son of a reverend who owns a massive church in Lagos, is leading the comeback even though he remains in self-imposed exile in London, where sources said he currently enjoys lots of financial sponsorship for the movement.

Unlike in the pre-2008 when the church openly operated at Jakande Estate, Isolo, and Berger in Lagos, Macaulay, who is the backbone of the movement, is not secretive of the meeting places and time of the church in Nigeria, but has instituted a very stringent process to screen prospective members of coming to join the church.

It was learnt that aside Nigeria, the church has two groups each in Ghana and United Kingdom (UK).

“We now have new groups in Malawi and Ghana. There are currently three groups in Nigeria, two each in Ghana and the UK and one each in Malawi, Lesotho and Burundi. All these groups are managed by volunteers, who are appointed through a rigorous ‘Local Leader Application’ process.

“We currently have 12 appointed Local Leaders in 6 countries. Currently we have over 25 outstanding applications for local leaders including, but not limited to the following locations: France, Netherlands, Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra-Leone. This has continued to strengthen the interest and work of House Of Rainbow particularly in Africa,” Macaulay.

NASA Explains What Exploded Over Russia

Russian Meteorite's Origin Traced To Deadly Apollo Asteroid Cluster

Meteorite

A team of astronomers have tracked down the origin of a meteorite which injured more than 1,000 people in Russia.

The rock smashed into Lake Chebarkul, near the Ural Mountains and the city of Chelyabinsk, smashing windows and causing havoc as it ripped through the sky.

But its passage was also captured in astonishing detail and clarity, largely thanks to the Russian trend to have CCTV cameras installed in cars.

Using this video footage, a team from Colombia have managed to work out where it came from - not only the direction in the sky but also its orbit around the Sun.

Jorge Zuluaga and Ignacio Ferrin said that they used relatively basic physics and maths to work out how fast the rock fell, and in which direction.

From there they were able to build a picture of its trajectory in space in an elliptical orbit around the sun, and traced its origin the the Apollo asteroid cluster.

Rocks from that region regularly cross Earth's orbit. Of the 9,700 near-Earth space rocks discovered by astronomers, more than 5,000 originate from this region.

Unfortunately, this likely means that it won't be the last threatening space rock to pass nearby - in fact it's certain than more will strike the Earth relatively soon (in cosmic terms).

The team said:
". In order to account for the uncertainties implicit in the determination of the trajectory of the body in the atmosphere, we use Monte Carlo methods to calculate the most probable orbital parameters. We use this result to classify the meteoroid among the near Earth asteroid families finding that the parent body belonged to the Apollo asteroids. Although semimajor axis and inclination of the preliminary orbit computed by us are uncertain, the rest of orbital elements are well constrained in this preliminary reconstruction."

Susan 'Goldie' Harvey Finally Laid To Rest In Lagos

Family, friends and colleagues of Nigeria’s Afro pop singer, Oluwabimpe Susan Harvey, popularly known as Goldie Harvey, today paid their last respect to the singer as she was buried at the Vaults and Gardens Cemetery, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The late singer, whose remains was placed in a brown MIC Casket, was brought into the premises in a R350 Mercedes Benz hearse at around 10:00am.

During the private funeral, Andrew Harvey, Goldie’s husband who surfaced few days after her death on 14 February, paid a moving tribute to his wife:

“Susan you walked into my life, it was like God sent you as a fresh breath. I still remember your response to my first love message. You said ‘Love killed Romeo; sent Diana to an early grave and killed Jack on the Titanic. Forget about love, just have friendship and live long. Overtime our love grew to a depth I have never known. You were the best years of my life, your smile, your desire to live your dream.”

Her siblings read both the first and second Bible readings before she was interred in one of the private vaults at the cemetery.

In his moving tribute, Goldie’s close friend and Channel O presenter, Denrele Edun, who was a shadow of himself, described the deceased “just as gorgeous now as when last I saw her. Her slightly disappearing figure and total loss from my sight is in me, not in her.”

“The Goldie I knew despite the World recognition, I would move mountains, I would break ceilings sell your legacy and you are the best friend I forever had’, I can hear you say to me, do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. Do not stand on my grave and cry. I am not there, I did not die,” teary-eyed Edun said.

Also paying tribute to one of his prized artiste, Keke Ogungbe, President, Kennis Music, stated: “Lovely and talented Oluwabimpe Goldie Susan, if I’m to start saying all I can’t finish. Though it’s painful, so lovely to have left on Valentine’s Day, May almighty God grant your soul eternal rest forever and ever in Jesus Name Amen.”

Others in attendance at the burial to pay their last respect to the singer are Chris Ubosi, Dele Momodu, Mayor Akinpelu, Kunle Bakare, Olisa Adibua, Jaywon, Eedris Abdulkareem, DJ Jimmy Jatt, KSB, Essence, Weird MC, ID Ogungbe, Gbenga Adeyinka 1st, eLDee the don, Julius Agwu, Freeze, Tiwa Savage and others.

Goldie died on the St. Valentine’s Day of Hypertensive heart disease some hours after returning from the 53th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, United States.

The autopsy carried out February 19 and signed by Dr. O.O Oyewole of the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine said she suffered a terminal ‘hypertensive heart disease’ which resulted to’ intracerebellar haemorrhage.’

Two Kids Found Dead As Mother Vanishes With Third Child

NOBODY who visited No. 1 Elias Odili Street, Abakaliki, would believe, as being claimed, that the two children who lay lifeless on the bed were matcheted to death by their own mother in the early hours of Wednesday February 20, 2013. Did she really do it?

At the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the woman and her third child were unknown. Did she flee to escape the fate that befell her two children?

Mrs. Joy Uchaji, a middle-aged school teacher, married to a former leader of Ebonyi Legislative Council was alleged to have butchered her two children, Nneoma and Godwin Uchaji aged four and two years respectively at the home with a machete after which she packed her bags and fled.

When The Guardian visited the scene, the machete with which Mrs. Joy allegedly committed the act, lay innocently on top of the slain daughter.

Family members disclosed that the body of the boy was found on top of the bed with his neck almost severed from the body while the girl was found in the kitchen with machete cuts on her back.

Her husband, Mr. Chamberlain Uchaji, was not around as he was said to have travelled to Abuja where he secured an employment recently.

However, elder brother to Mr. Uchaji, Elias, told reporters that the incident was an ugly development in the family, stressing that until the husband and other members living outside Ebonyi returned, the family could not take any decision on next line of action.

Commenting on the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said the command received a report of the incident and had begun a search for the woman, adding that preliminary investigations by the Police indicated that the woman must have run to Lagos.

He said bodies of the slain children had been cleared to be deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, (FETHA) mortuary.
