  • The terrorist organisation released a statement saying it warned Kenya to remove troops from Somalia
  • Officials believe 10 to 15 gunmen are involved
  • The death toll reaches 59; at least 165 people are hospitalized
  • Hostages are being held in several locations, the government says
  • The army and special forces are helping police flush out the gunmen
  • Upmarket mall is a favourite shopping spot for expats and wealthy Kenyans
  • Security guards wheel out bodies in shopping trolleys from Westlands Shopping Centre
  • Witness says attackers told shoppers non-Muslims were the targets of the masked terrorists

A day of horror

Twenty four hours. Fifty nine dead. About 30 hostages still inside....

The calm was shattered around noon local time Saturday. Gunshots erupted as shoppers picked up groceries, savored lunch and browsed through the racks at stores.

Before long, pools of blood smeared pristine hallways. Bodies lay strewn across the floor.

Uche Kaigwa-Okoye was sipping coffee when he heard what first sounded like a fallen table, then the continuing rat-a-tat of gunfire. As the gunshots became louder, screaming crowds headed for the exits.

He joined 20 people who took shelter for about five hours in a women's bathroom cubicle.

"They had grenades, and it was really, really loud," he said of the attackers. He noticed tear gas in the hallways as well.

"All of us felt like they were close," he said.

As people texted family and friends outside the mall, word spread that nobody could be trusted. And even if the good guys could be sorted from the bad guys, the barrage of intermittent gunfire made any escape seem futile.

Army: Soldiers were drafted in to help police tackle the gunmen, who are now known to be terrorists from the Somali al-Shabaab organisation, which has links to al-Qaeda

Shootout: Soldiers and armed police fire at the suspected terrorists as they try to wrest back control of the shopping centre

Desperation: A crowd of people hold their arms out to catch a Kenyan woman as she jumps out from the air vent where she had been hiding from the gunmen

Killings: At least 15 people are believed to be dead, although police have not confirmed a death toll

Desperation: An injured woman, whose face and clothes are drenched in blood, lies on the ground outside the shopping mall screaming for help

Escape: Women carrying children run for safety as armed police hunt gunmen who went on a shooting spree in Westgate shopping centre

Spree: Shots are still being heard in the mall as police and terrorists engage in a stand-off

Hands up: Hostages of all nationalities head for the exit with their arms raised to show they are not carrying any weapons

France's president said that two French women were killed. Two Canadians were killed, including a diplomat, said the Candadian prime minister. Four American citizens were reported injured but not killed in the attack, the State Department said Saturday.

Around 68 casualties were taken to the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi, said a worker at the hospital. Bancy Wanjiru added that among them were six white foreigners whom she believed were British nationals.

The terrorists stormed the Westgate Mall and sprayed shoppers with bullets. Witnesses said the attackers told all Muslims to leave as they were only after non-Muslims.

Those shoppers who tried to leave were asked by the terrorists to name the Prophet Mohammed’s mother. If they failed to give her correct name of Amina they were shot dead, said one eye witness.

After Muslim shoppers had left the mall, the terrorists reportedly threw grenades and fired AK-47s.

Somali terrorist group Al Shabab, which is linked to Al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attacks, and said the atrocity was revenge for the presence of Kenyan troops in Somalia.

People who had been hiding inside the mall during the gun battle flee the scene.

An injured man is wheeled into the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

A Kenyan woman is helped to safety after the masked gunmen stormed the upscale mall and sprayed gunfire on shoppers and staff.

Bodies lie outside the shopping mall. A Kenyan government source and Western diplomatic sources say the attackers appear to be of Somali origin.

Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede's breast surgery rumours

Nollywood actress, Yvonne Jegede left the movie scene in 2007 to study International Relations in Cyprus.
Yvonne, whose popularity started with Tuface Idibia's African Queen video, decided to share sexy new photos of herself.
Well, let's just say her fans weren't much impressed... these photos sparked off rumours that she had a boob job done.

Yvonne Jegede's hot photos that sparked off rumours

The actress in a recent interview denied the rumour saying she did not do any breast enlargement surgery.

According to Yvonne Jegede:

My features have always been the same from time immemorial. The thing is a lot of people have always seen me as that naïve, vulnerable girl who likes to cry a lot because those are the kind of roles I used to get before I left.

The roles I got were roles I have to be a nice girl in the village, a girl who is begging to be loved, a girl who has made a mistake and who desperately wants to repent, a girl who people will feel sorry for, a girl who is from a poor home.

So, I have my own personal life. What you see on TV has absolutely nothing to do with me. I will not cry for a man and grovel and be on the floor in tears with mucus all over my nose. No, I wouldn’t. But if the script says I should do that, I would.

I’m very surprised people judge me by my pictures. There was a blog that said, ‘Oh, we thought she was decent.’ I’m like because I’m taking pictures doesn’t mean I’m not decent and because I cry in movies does not make me decent.

People who cry in movies that does not make them decent and because someone takes off her clothes on TV does not make her indecent. It is the way you now react when there’s nobody watching that makes you what you are. It was my birthday so I just went to the studio, trying to feel nice and I took pictures and that is all me, no surgery or implant.

Contestants of the Muslimah World pageant take part in a rehearsal for the grand final of the contest in Jakarta on September 18, 2013.

JAKARTA (AFP) – A Nigerian woman tearfully prayed and recited Koranic verses as she won a beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women in the Indonesian capital Wednesday, a riposte to the Miss World contest that has sparked hardline anger.

The 20 finalists, who were all required to wear headscarves, put on a glittering show for the final of Muslimah World, strolling up and down a catwalk in elaborately embroidered dresses and stilettos.

But the contestants from six countries were covered from head to foot, and as well as beauty they were judged on how well they recited Koranic verses and their views on Islam in the modern world.

After a show in front of an audience of mainly religious scholars and devout Muslims, a panel of judges picked Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola from Nigeria as the winner.

While the event in a Jakarta shopping mall paled in comparison to Miss World on the resort island of Bali, in which scores of contestants are competing, Ajibola was nevertheless overwhelmed.

Upon hearing her name, the 21-year-old knelt down and prayed, then wept as she recited a Koranic verse.

She said it was "thanks to almighty Allah" that she had won the contest. She received 25 million rupiah ($2,200) and trips to Mecca and India as prizes.

Ajibola told AFP before the final that the event "was not really about competition".

"We're just trying to show the world that Islam is beautiful," she said.

Organisers said the pageant challenged the idea of beauty put forward by the British-run Miss World pageant, and also showed that opposition to the event could be expressed non-violently.

Eka Shanti, who founded the pageant three years ago after losing her job as a TV news anchor for refusing to remove her headscarf, bills the contest as "Islam's answer to Miss World".

"This year we deliberately held our event just before the Miss World final to show that there are alternative role models for Muslim women," she told AFP.

"But it's about more than Miss World. Muslim women are increasingly working in the entertainment industry in a sexually explicit way, and they become role models, which is a concern."

Hosted by Dewi Sandra, an Indonesian actress and pop star who recently hung up her racy dresses for a headscarf, the pageant featured both Muslim and pop music performances, including one about modesty, a trait the judges sought in the winner.

The pageant, which also featured bright Indonesian Islamic designer wear, is a starkly different way of protesting Miss World than the approach taken by Islamic radicals.

Snowballing protest movement

Thousands have taken to the streets in Indonesia in recent weeks to protest Miss World, denouncing the contest as "pornography" and burning effigies of the organisers.

Despite a pledge by Miss World organisers to drop the famous bikini round, radical anger was not appeased and the protest movement snowballed.

The government eventually bowed to pressure and ordered the whole pageant be moved to the Hindu-majority island of Bali, where it opened on September 8.

Later rounds and the September 28 final were to be held in and around Jakarta, where there is considerable hardline influence.

But there are still fears that extremists may target the event -- the US, British and Australian embassies in Jakarta have warned their nationals in recent days of the potential for radical attacks.

More than 500 contestants competed in online rounds to get to the Muslimah World final in Indonesia, one of which involved the contenders comparing stories of how they came to wear the headscarf.

The contest was first held in 2011 under a different name and was only open to Indonesians, Shanti said, but after the media began comparing it to Miss World, it was rebranded as a Muslim alternative to the world-famous pageant.

Because of its popularity, organisers accepted foreign contestants this year for the first time, with Iran, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Nigeria and Indonesia represented.

Just look what giving up drink for a month can do to your face!

Many modern women enjoy a drink with an evening meal or have a glass of wine at home to unwind after a busy day, with large numbers of women exceeding the Government’s daily drinking guidelines of two to three units a day.

But would many cut down if they knew that, as well as affecting their health, alcohol could also damage their looks, making them look years older than their age?

Dailymail challenged Laura, a 40-year-old mother-of-two, to give up her 15 units of alcohol a week And she didn't just notice the change in the mirror...

WEEK ONE

At week one Laura clearly has skin which is red and flushed

Laura says: ‘Urgh, this picture looks horrific. I look awful. My skin is red and flushed, all the way down my decolletage. My forehead and nose are shiny and there are rough, dry patches across my cheeks.

‘More worryingly, I don’t remember thinking my skin actually looked this bad.

WEEK TWO

By week two Laura says she was sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently in the night

Laura says: ‘What a miracle! I’m sleeping for longer in the mornings and getting up less frequently during the night.

‘Before, I might have woken up once or twice — whether I’d had a drink or not — but now I am sleeping like a baby. It might have helped that it was also the school holidays, so the children were sleeping in as well, but I am definitely waking up feeling brighter and more alert.

‘I’ve also noticed that in the evenings I’m not snacking as much. Normally I’d crave crisps with my usual glass of wine, but sipping a glass of lime and soda means I don’t feel like junk food. The urge just isn’t there.

WEEK THREE

Laura began noticing a difference in her skin's dryness after week three

Laura says: ‘By now I’m noticing a difference in my skin’s dryness, and not just on my face.

'It sounds unpleasant, but when I used to take off leggings or trousers I often noticed dry flakes of skin left behind. Now there’s hardly anything.

‘Equally the backs of my hands are looking less dry and — unless I’m imagining it — marginally less wrinkly.

‘When my mother visited this week, she said how less blotchy I was looking — success! A friend also said my skin tone looked more even.

WEEK FOUR

Laura lost 3lb and her face was slimmer by week four

Laura says: By week four I’m feeling invigorated and so much better in myself.

‘I’m getting fewer headaches and have much more energy. My lips are less dry, too — I usually get a cold sore almost every week — but since ditching the booze not a single one has appeared.

‘Better still, I’ve lost 3lb and my face definitely looks slimmer. I have to admit, it’s been far easier to abstain from alcohol than I’d feared. I said no to a few barbecues, just in case I was tempted, but I’ve enjoyed feeling healthier and brighter, especially in the mornings.
