PHOTOS: Simon Cowell meets the future in-laws as Lauren Silverman's dad declares his love for X Factor boss

The music mogul gave pregnant girlfriend Lauren's father a manly hug before they sat down to bond over dinner

When it comes to attracting stunning women, TV success and making bucket-loads of money, Simon Cowell usually has things his own way.

Meeting the future in-laws, however, is a potentially more tricky hurdle to negotiate.

Simon, 54, and Lauren Silverman’s dad Stephen Davis cut an unlikely duo outside a restaurant at the weekend after a family night out.

First there was the rather stiff handshake outside Casa Tua, a popular Miami hotspot.

Then Simon and Stephen went in for a rather awkward-looking (man) hug to round off the four-hour dinner which also included Lauren’s stepmum.

But despite the rather clumsy public display of affection, it appears Simon must have turned on the charm.

Stephen was overheard saying he loved Simon as they left the posh eaterie, saying: “I love him. The best. There’s nobody like this guy”.

An unbreakable bond

He then went on to reveal they had a charming dinner, including duck, tagliatelle and tiramisu before pregnant Lauren, 36, joked of her dad and Simon: “Don’t they look alike”.

Simon, meanwhile, refused to comment on any future plans, adding he has not yet seen the details of Lauren’s divorce settlement with ex Andrew.

In it, he’s warned to stay away from her seven-year-old son – or she will have to pay her ex a hefty fine.

Simon did however have a pop at education secretary Michael Gove who hit out at him after Si was was quoted saying the secret to success was to be useless at school then “get lucky”.

The MP said his comments were “irresponsible and stupid” and undermined teachers’ efforts.

But Cowell said: “It was a joke. He should have asked me or had the courtesy to ask me. All I was saying was, ‘I didn’t have any qualifications but I did well in life’. And there are certain people who don’t get qualifications and I want to give them a bit of hope that’s all. Next time he should ask me.”

Asked what advice he will give his child with Lauren, he joked: “I will still say go to school.”

Blacks & HIV: Who’s Really To Blame?

A group of people talking at a casual event

Even though Blacks account for 14 percent of the population, they make up more than half of all new HIV infections.

Why?
After all these years, after all the studies, after all the PSAs, after all the information, it seems that we need to do a better job coming to terms with ourselves and why our community is still at risk.

  • More people need to use condoms more often (in casual, at-risk and long-term relationships)
  • More people need to be tested more often.
  • More people need to begin treatment immediately if they test positive.

  • Experts have even commented that many have difficulty embracing the concept of delayed gratification, which often leads to making riskier, more dangerous, and irresponsible choices.

However, changes in sexual behavior may only be part of the solution. Today’s HIV messages seem to insinuate that the reason blacks are still dealing with high HIV infection rates is because of sexual irresponsibility.

    The Other Why’s…
As many policy makers are slowly realizing, behavior alone isn’t solely responsible for the current HIV crisis. The other factors include:
    • Poverty
    • Lower health literacy
    • Drug use (particularly intravenous)
    • Economic instability
    • Poor access to health care
    • Untreated STDs (which make people more vulnerable to contracting HIV)
    • Mistrust in the medical system
    • Gender inequality
    • Homophobia
    • Incarceration
This said, there’s a danger in linking HIV/AIDS to issues like the above, many of which stem from institutionalize racism and other issues that simply cannot and will not be reversed overnight.

But…it’s still important to realize that they do exist. And perhaps, with realization, comes change. And with change comes the societal cures that we really need, so that the black community doesn’t continue to fall victim to  the health crises that, also, will not disappear overnight.

Detroit Limo Company Sends Racist Text To Black Woman

At age 25, Candis Doss (pictured), a black woman, says she has never experienced racism in her life. Well, there’s a first time for everything!

When Doss called a party limo bus rental to arrange a ride for her mom’s birthday, her call got dropped but what she received in return was a racist text message from the company, according to MyFox Detroit.

Doss was driving her car when she called the Detroit Limo Party Bus Company which she had found via a Craigslist booking agent. The young woman’s mom was celebrating a birthday and she had wanted to book a vehicle for a party. When Doss was inquiring about pricing for the stretch vehicles, her call suddenly dropped.

Not long after losing her connection, Doss received a text message that took her aback which stated the following:

“Why do black people always just hang up…Is it an inherited thing to be rude? or is it because you were slaves for so long?”

Doss expressed to Fox 2 News’ Amy Lange just how disappointed she was after encountering her first brush with racism. “It never happened to me, or somebody that was just close to me, where I could feel what they feel,” she said. “I feel what everybody feels now, I mean, it’s just like – when is it gonna stop?”

Fox 2 contacted the Detroit Limo Party Bus Company to see if they could get any answers as to how or why the text was sent to Doss. The company told the news outlet it would delve into the alleged matter further.

Meanwhile, something very good came out of Doss’ predicament: The Metro Party Bus company contacted the young woman and offered free transportation for her mom’s birthday celebration.
