Nigerian hostage deaths: Ansaru claims backed

Nigerian hostage deaths: Ansaru claims backed

William Hague: "This is an unforgivable act of pure cold-blooded murder"

A Nigerian Islamist militant group's claims to have killed seven foreign hostages it seized last month are credible, Western governments say.

The hostages - from Italy, Britain, Greece and Lebanon - were captured in a raid on a construction site in the northern state of Bauchi.

In an online statement posted on Saturday, the militant group Ansaru said it had killed the captives.

Ansaru is suspected of being an offshoot of the Boko Haram network.

On Sunday, UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said a British construction worker, named as Brendan Vaughan, was "likely to have been killed at the hands of his captors, along with six other foreign nationals".

"This is an unforgivable act of pure, cold-blooded murder, for which there can be no excuse or justification," he added.

The Italian government issued a similar statement, while the Greek foreign ministry said: "The information we have shows that the Greek citizen is dead."

    Ansaru at a glance:

An image from a 24 December 2012 video released by Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina fi Biladis Sudan
    • Based in Nigeria
    • Suspected to be an offshoot of Boko Haram
    • Listed by UK as a "terrorist organisation" aligned with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb
    • Announced its formation in January 2012
    • Said it would target non-Muslims "in self-defence"
    • Full Arabic name is Jama'atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Bidalis Sudan ("Vanguards for the Protection of Muslims in Black Africa")

Ansaru's online message included grainy pictures purporting to show the bodies of the seven - a Briton, an Italian, a Greek and four Lebanese workers.

The group said they had been killed because of a rescue attempt by British and Nigerian forces.

But in its statement, the Italian foreign ministry said: "There was never any military attempt to rescue the hostages by any of the governments concerned."

It added that the group's actions "can have no explanation other than blind and barbaric violence".

Britain's military said its warplanes which were recently spotted in Nigeria's capital Abuja had been there to carry soldiers taking part in the French-led operation in Mali - not to rescue hostages.

The seven hostages were seized in a raid from a site belonging to the Setraco construction company. It resulted in the death of a guard.

Ansaru said it had carried out the attack in revenge for what it called atrocities by European nations against Islam.

    map

The group, formed in January 2012, has been listed by the UK government as a "terrorist organisation" aligned with al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

It abducted French national Francis Colump in December in an attack on a compound in the northern state of Katsina.

In January Ansaru said it had carried out an attack that killed two Nigerian soldiers as they prepared to deploy to Mali, where French-led troops have been fighting Islamic militants.

From the very beginning the product was designed to stand up to extreme conditions – to protect against environmental damage at high altitude, varying temperatures and the polluted urban setting.

Key 111 SKIN ingredients were used by astronauts in extreme space conditions where accelerated ageing is known to occur.

As research developed, space science became the clear answer.

The first cream from the range was created in 2008 to help patients heal after surgery. In addition to the dramatic healing results, the creams also had potent anti-ageing and protecting benefits.

Dr. Alexandrides said: 'As a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, I deal with the most challenging problems of ageing and injury.

'I developed 111 SKIN through the inside out view that only a surgeon can master. Our products were tested in the most demanding situations: after cosmetic surgery and laser treatment, on scars and burns.

'Our science laboratory used the most advanced ingredients to maximise results. I am proud to offer my unique insight to my patients and now to everyone who wants to fight ageing.'

7 Natural Remedies For Lessening And Eliminating Scars

A woman applying cream onto her face as she smiles in a mirror

Many different things cause trauma to the skin, ranging from injuries and accidents to skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Treatments to get rid of scars on black skin can sometimes be a challenge, but with consistency and patience, it is possible to reduce the appearance of stubborn blemishes.

    Types of Scars:

There are several types of scarring that occurs after skin exposure to trauma:
Keloidal scars – Elevated, dark, benign tumors that appears on ears, back, shoulders and chest. This can be very difficult to remove since it goes overboard the boundary of the affected area.
Hypertrophic scars – Raised and dark scars. Disappears in a certain amount of time but causes intense itching while this is used.
Atrophic scars – Creates indentation or sunken marks. One example of this type of scarring is stretch marks.

The following are natural remedies for lessening and eliminating scars:

    1. Lavendar oil. Apply and massage directly on scars to help fade. In time, it can completely eliminate them.

    2. Flaxseed oil. You can buy this oil at almost any health food store. Rub the flaxseed oil on old and new scars a few times each day, including after you shower and again before going to bed.

    3. Grapeseed extract, jojoba and almond oil are all effective scar treatments, especially when combined together.

    4. Vitamin K. Apply as a cream topically to scars. Depending on the severity of your scars and skin type, you may see results in as little as a couple of weeks to a couple of months when used twice daily.

    5. Olive oil. Apply 100% extra virgin) to scars at least twice a day. Within a week you should start to see scars and stretch marks starting to fade.

    5. Organic raw honey (especially high UMF factor manuka honey).
Rub onto scars twice daily. The antibacterial properties in honey can help heal wounds and promote skin cell growth. With constant use, scars should fade. Using honey is not recommended if you have oily skin.

    6. Castor oil. Use with a plastic wrap and a heating pad. Note: Be sure to use only food grade plastic wrap that contains no bisphenol A, a dangerous substance found in many plastics. Rub plenty of castor oil on the scars and then wrap it with plastic wrap. Place a heating pad turned on as high a setting as you comfortably stand and leave on for 20 to 25 minutes. You may see noticeable results in as little as a week or so.

    7. Vitamin E. Use oil from punctured gel caps and rub it into scars.

Note: The key to natural lessening and elimination of scar tissue is persistence. Serious scars may take up to several months, but with persistent and consistent effort you should eventually see good results.

Dita Von Teese Turns Heads In New York As She Debuts The World's First 3D Printed Dress

Dita Von Teese has conquered the burlesque world and now appears to be setting her curves on technology.

The style icon debuted what is said to be the world's very first 3D-printed dress on Monday night in New York City.

The 40-year-old may have been displaying a glimpse of the future but it was her tried and tested cleavage-baring look that turned heads at the Ace Hotel.

Dita's dress was perfectly tailored to fit her famous figure with a very low neckline and huge shoulders.

Although she appeared to be completely naked through the outfit she was in fact wearing a nude colour corset.

The frock was designed by Michael Schmidt and architect Francis Bitonti and is made up of 13,000 black Swarvoski crystals and covered in black paint.

Schmidt, who has previously made Lady Gaga's bubble dress, worked with Bitonti to render the design with new technologies.

The 3D dress was printed with hardened powdered nylon so that Dita was still able to move around normally in it.

Schmidt designed the entire frock virtually on his iPad and collaborated with Bitonti via Skype.

Francis told mashable.com: 'We were an interesting team because I take things that are virtual and I figure out what to make them of.

'To do that you have to break it down into individual components so it can become something sensual, taking this hard plastic material and making it flow and sexy and undulate around the body.

'The curvature is always changing as she moves. As far as difficulty goes, if you could imagine creating a piece with 3,000 unique moving individual parts.'

Dita was the muse for the gown but the designers used pure science to exaggerate her shape taking inspiration from the Golden Ratio theory by 13th-century theorist Fibonacci.

The dress, which will go on tour in museums, was not meant to look futuristic but was intended to be an extension of Dita's sexy personality.

Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez Dies at 58

    0305_hugo_chavez_article_getty
Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has died ...  according to Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro.

Maduro, who was fighting back tears during the announcement, said Chavez died today at 4:25 PM.

Chavez had been in Cuba for months, receiving treatment for a mystery illness that turned out to be cancer.

    He was 58 years old.

Wearing The Right Bra.....100 years after its invention 80% of us are STILL wearing the wrong size

When it comes to finding the right bra, even the most proficient shoppers often despair.

And, according to a survey carried out by Bravissimo, there are seven different ways in which they can go wrong.

Four in five women admitted to suffering from one of the problems, nicknamed ‘booby traps’, every day.

    the bra faux pas

The most common, experienced by 41 per cent of the 1,000 women surveyed, is the ‘side boob’, in which the cup underwiring sits on the breast rather than on the ribcage, causing overspill at the side.

And more than a third admitted to experiencing the ‘quadraboob’, in which breasts spill over the top of a too-small cup, creating the impression of four breasts.
What a boob! Britney Spears often suffers the dreaded Quadraboob

Photo:What a boob! Britney Spears often suffers the dreaded Quadraboob

The survey, carried out by lingerie firm Bravissimo to mark the 100th anniversary of the creation of the bra, found many women hadn’t had a proper fitting in two years.

Many wear bras that are too small because they cannot find attractive ones in larger sizes, or are unwilling to admit that their breasts are larger than DD – the biggest size in many ranges.

Bravissimo is now launching an online ‘boob school’ to teach women how to choose a well-fitting bra.

A spokesman said: ‘We’d noticed that there were a number of booby traps women were falling into, normally because they’ve never experienced a proper fitting and they simply don’t know how to spot the signs that their bra is no longer giving them the support they need.

‘By identifying the seven classic bra faux pas and launching Boob School, we’re hoping that women everywhere can become more knowledgeable about what makes a really good fitting bra.’

Ladies with larger assets experiencing more problems finding a properly fitted bra and dealing with the challenges of having more to handle in the first place.

The Quadraboob was the biggest pitfall for ladies with a larger bust, with 53 per cent of women who were above a GG cup size falling prey.
Christina Hendricks often suffers a multitude of sins including the Ledge and Side Boob

Photo:Falling into that old booby trap: Christina Hendricks suffers a multitude of sins like the Ledge and Side Boob

The survey found 41 per cent of us suffer from the Side Boob, where wires in the cup sitting on your boob rather than your ribcage.

The High Rider, where the back of the bra rides up, affects 39 per cent, while a third (36 per cent) get the dreaded Quadraboob, where the bust spills over the top of the cup, giving the impression of four boobs.

The Big Stand Off, where the front of the bra doesn't sit flat on the sternum between the boobs affects almost a third (28 per cent) while the Super Drooper affects a quarter (26 per cent) who aren't getting enough support, creating the illusion of saggy boobs.

Another quarter who buy bras that are too big, 24 pr cent, suffer from the appearance of Saggy Cups where there's too much fabric.

Denise Welch's cups are a tad small as she's getting a touch of Side Boob
    droopy
Photo:Not their breast effort: Denise Welch's cups are a tad small as she's getting some Side Boob, and Super Drooper Lyndsay Lohan isn't supported

The Ledge is created with over uplift, transforming your boobs into something that resembles a ledge, and it affects 12 per cent (including voluptuous Christina Hendricks).

Although all the faux pas identified could be avoided by wearing a good fitting bra, only one in five women said that they were extremely confident that they were wearing the correct bra size.

This is unsurprising, as the study also identified several reasons why women continually experience such uncertainty about their bra size.

Over a two year period, three quarters (77 per cent) have lost or gained weight, 62 per cent have changed their clothes size, 17 per cent have gone through the menopause and 10 per cent have had a baby, all potentially impacting upon their bra size.

HOW TO GET THE RIGHT FIT

    1. The strap around your body should be firm but comfortable.

When you stand side-on at a mirror, the strap that runs around your body should be horizontal and should not ride up at the back at all.

    2. The wires at the front should lie flat against your rib cage and should not dig in, rub or poke out at the front.

    3. Your breasts should be enclosed in the cups and you should have a smooth line where the fabric at the top of the cup ends and meets your bust.

    4. You shouldn't have any ridge or bulging over the top or sides of the cups, even if you are wearing a balconette style or lower cut shape.

Perfect fit? You should have a smooth line where the fabric at the top of the cup ends and meets your bust

    beforeafter

After this lady got fitted by a professional she discovered her true, completely different, correctly fitting size

Four fifths own more than five bras, but less than half wear more than five bras regularly.

Jo Lee, Buying and Marketing Director at Bravissimo, comments: 'We'd noticed for some time that there were a number of booby traps women were falling into, normally because they've never experienced a proper fitting and they simply don't know how to spot the signs that their bra is no longer giving them the support they need.

'By identifying the seven classic bra faux pas and launching Boob School, we're hoping that women everywhere can become more knowledgeable about what makes a really good fitting bra, so they feel more confident about their bra size now and into the future and our brilliant British boobs can finally get the treatment they deserve!'

In response to the findings, Bravissimo is now launching the world's first Boob School to help other women avoid falling into these booby traps, in a bid to help women feel brilliant about their boobs.

Boob School will talk to women about their boobs, give advice on what they should be looking for in a perfectly fitting bra by following their simple lessons online, via a Facebook app or in store.

Unizik Student Ties Wrapper To Class To Win 20,000 Naira Bet

A pre science student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (Mbaukwu Campus) shocked everybody on Thursday when he wore a wrapper to school.

    stu

The student who is in E2, earlier had a bet with some guys in his lecture hall that he could wear a wrapper to school and the guys promised to give him N20,000 if he did.

Guess what? The dude took the risk but lo and behold, after he stepped into his hall, the gals who could not hide their amusement started shouting, yelling and chanting.

The noise eventually attracted the security officers to the Hall and the boy was fished out & planked with heavy logs of wood.

These action nearly stirred a riot in the school, as students detested the brutality saying the guy had the right to wear anything he chooses.

Nigerian Gay Church Resume Operations In Lagos

Less than five years after Nigeria-only gay church, House of Rainbow, was attacked by some Lagos residents and consequently closed down in Nigeria, the church has returned to the country with three secret groups in the African most populous nation.

    nigerian_gay_church

With this development, Nigeria appears to lead other countries where the church currently operates.

Founded by Nigerian-born gay, Rev. Rowland Jide Macaulay, House of Rainbow, which came to Nigeria in 2006, is “an inclusive and affirming religious community open and welcome to all people including s*xual minorities and marginalised people, a monthly gathering of ‘people of faith’ for ‘prayer and praise’, which focuses on the person’s journey towards reconciliation of se*uality and spirituality.”

Macaulay, a trained lawyer and son of a reverend who owns a massive church in Lagos, is leading the comeback even though he remains in self-imposed exile in London, where sources said he currently enjoys lots of financial sponsorship for the movement.

Unlike in the pre-2008 when the church openly operated at Jakande Estate, Isolo, and Berger in Lagos, Macaulay, who is the backbone of the movement, is not secretive of the meeting places and time of the church in Nigeria, but has instituted a very stringent process to screen prospective members of coming to join the church.

It was learnt that aside Nigeria, the church has two groups each in Ghana and United Kingdom (UK).

“We now have new groups in Malawi and Ghana. There are currently three groups in Nigeria, two each in Ghana and the UK and one each in Malawi, Lesotho and Burundi. All these groups are managed by volunteers, who are appointed through a rigorous ‘Local Leader Application’ process.

“We currently have 12 appointed Local Leaders in 6 countries. Currently we have over 25 outstanding applications for local leaders including, but not limited to the following locations: France, Netherlands, Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra-Leone. This has continued to strengthen the interest and work of House Of Rainbow particularly in Africa,” Macaulay.

NASA Explains What Exploded Over Russia

Russian Meteorite's Origin Traced To Deadly Apollo Asteroid Cluster

    Meteorite

A team of astronomers have tracked down the origin of a meteorite which injured more than 1,000 people in Russia.

The rock smashed into Lake Chebarkul, near the Ural Mountains and the city of Chelyabinsk, smashing windows and causing havoc as it ripped through the sky.

But its passage was also captured in astonishing detail and clarity, largely thanks to the Russian trend to have CCTV cameras installed in cars.

Using this video footage, a team from Colombia have managed to work out where it came from - not only the direction in the sky but also its orbit around the Sun.

Jorge Zuluaga and Ignacio Ferrin said that they used relatively basic physics and maths to work out how fast the rock fell, and in which direction.

From there they were able to build a picture of its trajectory in space in an elliptical orbit around the sun, and traced its origin the the Apollo asteroid cluster.

Rocks from that region regularly cross Earth's orbit. Of the 9,700 near-Earth space rocks discovered by astronomers, more than 5,000 originate from this region.

Unfortunately, this likely means that it won't be the last threatening space rock to pass nearby - in fact it's certain than more will strike the Earth relatively soon (in cosmic terms).

    The team said:
". In order to account for the uncertainties implicit in the determination of the trajectory of the body in the atmosphere, we use Monte Carlo methods to calculate the most probable orbital parameters. We use this result to classify the meteoroid among the near Earth asteroid families finding that the parent body belonged to the Apollo asteroids. Although semimajor axis and inclination of the preliminary orbit computed by us are uncertain, the rest of orbital elements are well constrained in this preliminary reconstruction."
