Model claims Kanye West 'cheated' on pregnant Kim Kardashian with her

A Canadian model claims rapper Kanye West cheated on pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian after they met at one of his shows.

In stunning claims Leyla Ghobadi, 24, told America's Star magazine that their fling started in July 2012 and continued even after Kim had announced her pregnancy after Kanye dismissed his relationship with the reality star as just 'for publicity and nothing serious'.

Explaining her decision to reveal the relationship, brunette Leyla said: 'This is going to destroy the Kardashian family. It’s bad. It’s really bad. It’s just embarrassing. But if I were Kim and about to have a baby, I would want to know.'

'If I was Kim and about to have a baby, I'd want to know': Canadian model Leyla Ghobadi has claimed Kanye West cheated on Kardashian with her

Setting his sights on her: It's not hard to see what Kanye reportedly saw in Leyla, a 24-year-old model from Canada

Determined: But Kanye is said to have set his sights on the model, and offered her and her friends backstage passes and free tickets to his next gig the following night

Kim's representatives have denied the reports, while Kanye's people have yet to respond to MailOnline's request for comment.

Kanye is said to have first set his sights on curvy model Leyla when he saw her dancing in the crowd at his show in Atlantic City in July last year.

And despite Kim also being present at the gig in Revel’s Ovation Hall, Kanye reportedly instructed a member of his entourage to seek out Leyla and invite her backstage.

The rapper is then reported to have invited Leyla for cocktails at AC’s HQ Nightclub, before asking her to come back to his hotel room.

Imminent arrival: Kanye looked less than happy as he stepped out in New York on Monday, while Kim counts down the days until her fast approaching due date

Working up until she pops: Kim was seen on Tuesday shooting scenes for Keeping Up With The Kardashians at her Malibu mansion

Centre of attention: Kim dressed in slimming black as she shot scenes getting out of her car at the property

However, Leyla declined, adding to the publication: 'I refused, as I felt it was too rushed.'

Kanye then reportedly asked Leyla and her friends, who had driven down from Montreal to watch his show, if they wanted to attend the concert the next evening, and gave them backstage passes.

And while Leyla admits she knew Kanye was with Kim at the time, she said the 36-year-old musician told her the relationship was 'for publicity and nothing serious'.

Bikini body: Leyla initially refused Kanye's advances, but then says she gave in and accompanied him back to his hotel room

After agreeing to accompany Kanye back to his hotel room after chatting to him backstage, Leyla said: 'We began to make out for a while - and next thing I knew, we were both naked and having sex.'

The couple's next reported meeting came in October in New York, as Kim, who had not announced her pregnancy at that point, was in Miami.

Leyla even alleges that Kanye contacted her last weekend to see if she wanted to meet up, but said that at that point she was fully aware of Kim's pregnancy, adding: 'I would never do that to someone.'

As they were: Kanye and Kim looked very much in love as they added the Met Ball together in New York on 6th May

Kim and Kanye announced her pregnancy in December 2012, with Kanye revealing the happy baby news to the crowd during a concert in Atlantic City.

The rapper said 'stop the music', then announced 'make noise for my baby mama right here,' with a wide smile.

Kanye and Kim had been dating for eight months at that point, but have been friends for a number of years.

Catching her eye: Leyla alleges that Kanye sent one of his team to ask her backstage after this performance at Revel's Ovation Hall in Atlantic City in July 2012

Not taking no for an answer: Leyla even alleges that Kanye contacted her this weekend to see if she wanted to meet up but she declined

The couple have looked very much in love in recent months as they prepare for the arrival of their first child together.

However, their lack of time together in recent weeks has hit headlines, with the couple's last outing together coming in mid-May.

But Kanye was seen making a brief appearance at Kim's baby shower, which was filmed for her reality show, at the beginning of the month.

Stepping out: Kim's mother Kris Jenner was seen out shopping at Fred Segal in Hollywood on Tuesday

Solidarity: Kris was joined by Kim's best friend Jonathan Cheban for the outing

Photos/ Video: Vampire mother-of-two who drinks half-a-gallon of LIVE HUMAN BLOOD per month

Julia Caples, 45, from Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania has been drinking live human blood from willing donors for the past 30 years.

The care worker, who says she is hooked on the practice, consumes around half-a-gallon of blood per month and believes that it keeps her feeling young and vigorous.

Scroll down for video:

Vampire-obsessed: Julia Caples, 45, from Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania has been drinking live human blood from willing donors for the past 30 years

'When I feed off of a person and drink their blood I feel stronger and healthier,' she says.

'I know scientifically there's not a lot nutrition in blood, but maybe there's some value we haven't discovered yet.

'I feel more beautiful than any other time when I'm regularly drinking. I'm also extremely healthy with no major health problems, and I have an abundance of energy all the time.'

Bizarre hobby: Ms Caples' drinking sessions take place at her home, where she cuts the donor with a pagan-like sterilized knife she designed herself

Ms Caples says she finds her 'donors' - fellow vampire fans willing to let her drink from them - at her local occult and oddities store.

'I feel more beautiful than any other time when I'm regularly drinking blood'

Drinking sessions take place at her home, where she cuts the donor with a pagan-like sterilized knife she designed herself.

Ms Caples says her fascination with blood began as a young girl, during her first kiss as a teenager, when she got the urge to bite her sweetheart with disastrous consequences.

'It was my natural instinct and I liked the taste,' she said. 'I just got an urge and can't really explain it. It's never gone away. Needless to say though, he never kissed me again.'

Vampire mom: Ms Caples with her ex-husband Donald Lazarowicz and their son Alexei, nine

She says she and goth friends did it occasionally through her teens, but it wasn't until she met ex-husband Donald Lazarowicz, 49, that she started drinking live blood regularly.

The pair became part of a subculture who would hit New York nightclubs and drink from each other, and married in a vampire-themed ceremony in 2000 and drank from each other to celebrate.

Risk factor: Ms Caples' daughter, Ariel Marie Martin, 24 (left) does not approve of her mother's pastime

But when they had son Alexei, Mr Lazarowicz vowed never to drink again.

The counselor, who is still good friends with Ms Caples and shares parenting duties, explained: 'I gave up, so Julia didn't have to. We agreed that one of us would need to stop and focus on parenting full time.

'Julia still likes to drink, but she's also an amazing mother, and her children come first. She'd never let it stop her mothering her kids.'

Daughter Ariel, 24 and Alexei, now nine, both have reservations about their mother's bizarre habit though.

'We have all these decorations at home like coffins and dolls. I'm starting to think she's a vampire,' Alexei says.

Adds Ariel: 'I don't agree with it. I think she runs a lot of health risks. I worry she might get a disease from someone through the blood.'

Ms Caples says she is aware of the health dangers, but all her donors are tested before she'll drink from them.

'I meet some donors online but I absolutely have to meet them in person first, she says. 'And they have to get blood tests to make sure that they're not carrying any blood borne diseases like AIDS or HIV.'

Doctors believe that there is a resurgence in blood-drinking thanks to the recent trend for vampire-themed TV series and films.

Haematologist Steven Gruenstein at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, says a variety of cultures have been drinking blood for thousands of years but it could be due to deficiencies in the body.

Taking responsibility: When Ms Caples and welcomed son Alexei in 2004, now ex-husband Donald Lazarowicz vowed never to drink blood again in order that he could be a better father

Longtime obsession: Ms Caples in 1996 with two fellow vampire fans in a blood letting photo shoot

He says: 'Blood does contain chemicals like salt, iron, protein, and people might be driven to drink it because of a deficiency of iron or some other chemical.

'I would absolutely discourage someone from ingesting raw human blood,' he warns.

'There are risks involved. HIV, hepatitis and other viral and bacterial illnesses can be transmitted through blood, so though these risks are not large, they are real and it would be an unnecessary danger.'

Anambra Communities to consult a traditional oracle to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the area.

The 21 communities in Anambra West and Anambra East local government areas have agreed to consult a traditional oracle to combat kidnapping and other crimes in the area.

Chinedu Obidigwe, the Chairman of Anambra East Transitional Committee, confirmed the move in Aguleri on Monday. Mr. Obidigwe said an oath would be administered to the people to stamp out the kidnapping and killings that had bedevilled the area in recent time.

He said the oracle, known for its powers in the area, would help to instil discipline because the people know its potency. “We decided to resort to traditional oracle because it acts fast, no going to police and seeking for bail or trying to bend the law.

If anyone defies the oracle’s orders, he pays instantly,” he said The Chairman of the traditional rulers of the communities, Roland Odegbo of Nteje, corroborated the development and said that the essence of the exercise was to reduce criminality to the barest minimum.

He advised the citizens to abide by the decision and avoid committing crimes, noting that such did not bring development to the area.

The communities have experienced kidnappings and killings in recent times by rival groups in the area.

Some of the communities in the two local governments are Ezi-Anam, Ifitie-Anam, Nzam and Oweelle in Anambra West; as well as Aguleri, Umuoba-Anam, Igbariam, Nando, Nsugbe, Umueri and Mkpunando-Otu Aguleri in Anambra East.

6 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Yawning

We all do it, and we all know it has at least something to do with how tired we feel. But unlike sleep apnea or laptops in the bedroom, yawning is an aspect of sleep that researchers haven't quite figured out just yet.
That doesn't mean we're totally in the dark when it comes to catching flies. Here are a few of the facts we know for sure when it comes to yawning.
There Are Many Theories, But Little Proof There's little research to support any of a number of theories as to why we yawn. FIrst off, we don't only do it when we're tired. It also probably doesn't reflect a lack of oxygen, although that theory isn't a totally nutty one. The idea likely blossomed from the fact that too-shallow breathing can cause problems, says Michael Decker, Ph.D., associate professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University and a spokesperson for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
The bottom lobes of the lungs aren't usually called upon when we're in our resting state. It isn't until we exercise that we typically use more of our lung capacity, but such deep breathing helps keep the lungs healthy, he says. In cases of surgery patients, some have been known to lose lung function after developing pneumonia due to shallow breathing after anesthesia. "Yawning would be like a homeostatic response to not breathing deeply" if this theory were to hold up, says Decker, but there's little proof to suggest it's the primary reason for yawning.
Yawning does seem to increase with boredom, at least according to a small 1986 study of college students who yawned more when shown a pattern of colors than when shown a 30-minute rock video.
The most recent research on yawning suggests that it exists to cool down the brain. That open-mouthed yawn causes sinus walls "to expand and contract like a bellows, pumping air onto the brain, which lowers its temperature," National Geographic reported. The study found that people were more likely to yawn during the winter, when the exterior air is obviously cooler, than in the summer, when yawns won't do much in terms of bringing cold air inside, Healthy Living reported.
Yawning Really Is Contagious It's true! One study found that when shown videos of yawning, around 50 percent of people also began yawning. It even happens among animals! A 2004 study observed the catching nature of yawns betweenchimpanzees and baboons and macaques. Perhaps most impressive, though, are dogs, whomight start to yawn after just hearing their owners let one slip. Even merely thinking -- or reading! -- about yawning can trigger one (did we get you yet?).
Turns out, it's not really that strange of a reaction, Robert Provine, a psychology and neuroscience professor at the Unversity of Maryland, Baltimore County, told WebMD. Other very human reactions are equally "contagious" -- think about the last time you witnessed someone laughing! A number of studies have tied this catching nature of yawns to empathy, says Decker. "The yawning becomes more of a social phenomenon than a physiological phenomenon," he says, and helps explain why we yawn when we're not tired.
Yawning Is More Contagious Between Besties Not just anyonewill pass a yawn onto you. According to 2012 research, yawns are most contagious among the closest of pals. "Researchers discovered that the closer you are to someone genetically or emotionally, the more likely it is that you'll 'catch' their yawn," HuffPost Science reported. Makes sense given the empathy theory, says Decker, since closer friends and family will have even stronger feelings toward each other.
Yawning May Be A Sign Of Disease It isn't usually the first symptom of anything serious, but excessive yawning can in some instances signal there's something wrong beyond severe sleep deprivation. In some people, excessive yawning could be a reaction caused by the vagus nerve, according to the National Institutes of Health, which could indicate a heart problem. In other rare cases, it could also signify a number of brain problems.
Even A Fetus Can Yawn No one knows exactly why yet, but unborn babies do yawn. While researchers have previously disputed imagery of open-mouth fetuses, a 2012 review of 4D scans was able to distinguish between a developing baby opening its mouth and a "non-yawn mouth opening," HuffPost Science reported. It may have something to with brain development, the researchers posited, and could potentially be used as a marker of normal development, LiveScience reported.
The Average Yawn Lasts 6 Seconds There might not be a scientific study to back this one up, but a number of news outlets peg yawn length at about six seconds. During those six seconds, heart rate increases significantly. A 2012 study examined the body before, during and after yawns and found that a number of the physiological changes that take place during those six seconds -- or however long you yawn for -- are unique to yawning, and were not replicated when study participants were simply asked to take a deep breath.

Did I succeed in getting y'all yawning? ...Well, i did yawn too!

Radiant in her wedding dress, Daughter of Nigerian oil tycoon becomes Britain's first black marchioness

  • Emma McQuiston married future Marquess of Bath Ceawlin Thynn at family seat of Longleat House saturday
  • Food blogger and daughter of Nigerian oil tycoon suggests she is being made to 'feel different or separate because of her race'
  • Marquess of Bath and his wife instead went to the wedding of two professional polo players in Hampshire
  • Lord Bath angry at son's renovation of Longleat which involved removal of a number of his prized erotic paintings

Ceawlin Thynn, Viscount Weymouth, married the daughter of a Nigerian oil tycoon saturday, but the ceremony was overshadowed by the conspicuous absence of his parents who refused to attend as a family feud rumbled on.

Emma McQuiston will make history when she becomes the first black Marchioness in Britain after her wedding to the future Marquess of Bath at the family seat of Longleat.

But she claims her relationship with the aristocrat has caused upset among the British elite because of her ethnicity and background.

Picturesque setting: The couple outside the family seat at Longleat, but his parents, Lord and Lady bath, refused to attend the ceremony

Viscount Weymouth, Ceawlin Thynn, with his bride Emma McQuiston at Longleat (left). The groom's father the Marquess of Bath (right) decided to attend another society wedding with his wife Anna Gael.

In an interview with society magazine Tatler, the 27-year-old said: 'There's class and then there's the racial thing. It's a jungle and I'm going through it and discovering things as I grow up.

'I’m not super-easily offended but it’s a problem when someone’s making you feel different or separate because of your race. I have never had anything horrible said or happen, but it is something you sense. You can just tell with some people.’

But the Marquess of Bath – famous for his string of ‘wifelets’ – and his real wife, Hungarian-born Anna Gael, 69, boycotted the ceremony, which took place at Longleat House saturday afternoon.

A source told the Daily Express: 'It was an intimate ceremony. Longleat is considered one of the foremost and widely respected traditional British estates in the country.

'With the backdrop of the safari park, estate and house, it was quite special.

'Many people have celebrated that she will be the first black marchioness in the UK, which was widely praised as "about time too".'

The couple were joined by 350 friends and family for the day, including Giant Digital director Andy Day and his wife Dee, who feasted on a lavish menu during the wedding breakfast which included sea bass.

It might have been a society wedding but it was a star-studded affair with celebs also in attendance including Sugababes star Jade Ewen and fashion blogger Bip Ling. Guests were entertained by X Factor's Rylan Clarke who no doubt wowed with one of his unique performances.

Naked fury: Ceawlin Thynn incurred the wrath of his parents over his renovation of Longleat, which has involved removing a number of his prized erotic paintings

Lord Bath has expressed great displeasure at his son’s renovation of the family seat at Longleat, which has involved removing a number of his prized erotic paintings, and said he would stay away from the wedding.

The 80-year-old Marquess – wearing mustard chinos and a green velvet jacket – instead went to a wedding in Hampshire yesterday morning, accompanied by his wife, Ceawlin's mother.

Lady Bath, who splits her time between Longleat and Paris, is thought to disapprove of Miss McQuiston, an aspiring celebrity chef.

‘She has asked her son to call it off,’ a friend of the family said. ‘She seems to think Emma isn’t good enough for him. Emma’s a lovely girl and is understandably hurt by this, as is her family. But Ceawlin loves Emma and won’t be swayed.’

Doctor Nabbed For Suspected Ritual Activities...Mutilated Baby’s Corpse, Removed Eyes, Tongue & Private Part

The Ogun State Police Command, Sunday, said it has arrested one Dr. Babawale Joshua who owned Ajike Medical Centre at 11, Adeyemi Street, Saka, Sango Ota, for suspected ritual activities and disrespect to the corpse of a 13-month-old baby who died in his hospital.

According the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for the state, Mr Muyiwa Ogunjobi, the police discovered that the boy’s corpse was mutilated. He told Vanguard that the eyes, tongue, two lips, two ears, private part, nails and the left hand and veins were cut off at the hospital.

Father’s account:

In his account of what happened, the child’s father, identified as Obinna Oleh, a 35-year-old auto spare part dealer at Ladipo market, from Umunze village in AnambraState, said: “On Friday the 7th of June, my child took ill, my wife joined me to rush him to the hospital.

“The next day, being Saturday, I came to see them at the hospital in the morning before going to my shop while the child was actually getting better then.

“It was with this hope that I left for my shop thinking that at least before the end of the day, the child would have recovered fully.

“But in the afternoon, my wife called to inform me that the baby’s health had deteriorated, that I should rush home. When I got here, I met my child in a very critical condition.

“I asked if any medication had been administered on him and my wife told me that the doctor gave him an injection that afternoon and that the child’s stomach swelled after the injection.

“The baby was practically abandoned by the hospital management in this condition until around 8p.m when he finally died.

“As we attempted to carry the corpse, the nurse in charge said we had to clear our bills before we could take the body away. She also said she needed to call the Medical Director for the full amount we were to balance before they could release the corpse to us.

“Mind you, we were not owing them before the baby died. We made some initial deposit prior to the baby’s admission and treatment. So when the nurse came up with the balance payment issue, I was not in the mood to argue that with them. I took my wife and we left, with the intention of returning yesterday morning to clear what ever bill there was, and take our child for burial.

“Also our pastor advised us to get a death certificate first before taking the corpse away for burial, so that we don’t encounter any problems with the police.

“We also needed to inform our kinsmen here about what happened. These were the reasons why we left the body of our baby at the hospital till the following morning.

“But yesterday morning, I was having a meeting with my brothers on how to get a doctor’s report on my child’s death when the nurse called me to come over to the hospital, that it’s like they used a spiritual arrow to kill my child. I asked her what she meant by that. And at same time, followed her to the room where the body was.

“I was shocked to the bones to find my child’s body in a gory state. His ears were cut off, his private part, his tongue, his lips, and his eyes were plucked out. I am yet to recover from the shock of that sight. The police was informed and they came and took the body away.”

Meantime, when Vanguard visited the hospital, yesterday, it was under lock and key, having been shut by the police who confirmed the development.

Sexy Or Dangerous?..Woman gets a 16 inch waist by sleeping in a corset for THREE years (and she still wants to get smaller)

  • Michele Kobke, 24, has a 16 inch waist but wants a smaller one
  • Her dream is a waist that measures 14 inches like idol Cathie Jung
  • Jung currently holds the record for having the world's smallest midriff

  • For most of us, a slender waist is the product of a careful diet and plenty of exercise. But not for Michele Kobke, 24.
The Berliner has shrunk her waist from 64cm (25 inches) to just 40cm (16 inches) by wearing a corset every day for three years - even while sleeping.
And despite now having a waist smaller than most catwalk model's, the German slimmer says she hopes to whittle her waist down to a shocking 38cm or 14 inches wide.

Shape shifter: 24-year-old Michele Kobke has a tiny 16in waist after wearing a corset every day and night for three years

After: Michele with her new, miniscule waist
Change: Michele in 2008, when her waist was 25 inches, and now, with a waist that is ten inches smaller
Tiny though Kobke's waist is, the record for the world's tiniest midriff is held by another - American Cathie Jung, whose waist measures just 38cm.
By comparison, the average British woman has a waist that measures 84.9cm (33.43 inches) - equivalent to a dress size 14.

However, doctors say that a waist bigger than 80cm (31.49in) could lead to serious problems, including heart disease.
Recent figures show that nearly 57 per cent of British women have waists bigger than the healthy limit set by experts.
Although Kobke's tiny waist is guaranteed to raise a few eyebrows, the German believes she has the perfect feminine figure.

Court Hears How Five South African Policemen Brutally Beat A Nigerian To Faint, Resuscitated Him Then Tortued Him Again To Death

Five Limpopo police officers beat a Nigerian man to death, the Polokwane Magistrate's Court heard on Thursday.
"I put it to you that you beat him, he fainted and you resuscitated him. He woke up and... you beat him again," prosecutor Jacky Mabasa told the jury in court
"You also sprinkled water on him."
The five, Boitumelo Ramahlala, Mashiba Mathata, Collins Sekoati, Thabo Mabotja and Clement Tsotsane, face murder and assault charges. They were applying for bail.
They are accused of beating Onyechiabi Iwuaka to death on May 21 while he was visiting a friend. His friend escaped the assault. Iwuaka died on the way to the Polokwane police station.
The court was told the officers stopped on the way to the police station to buy water, as Iwuaka was bleeding from his ears.
Mabasa said an ambulance was called for Iwuaka after he died.
"The reason you cannot tell me specifically what you did that day is because you assaulted him. That's why you cannot tell what you did," Mabasa said.
The court was told Iwuaka was merely in his friend's home, and was the wrong person to be arrested.
The five evaded questions, and said they never accused or hurt anyone. This prompted magistrate Janine Ungerer to question if they shared the same holding cell. She suspected they had coached each other on how to respond to questions.
The bail application was postponed to Monday.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SHOE?

    Walmart shoes
These men's dress shoes, which are described on the Walmart website as 'alluring square-toe slip-ons', have elicited some hilarious customer reviews

'I can even flip pancakes with these shoes!' Hilariously sarcastic internet reviewers make fun of $119 pair of Walmart slip-ons

An odd-looking pair of men's dress shoes on the Walmart website have attracted a lot of buzz due to the hilarious customer reviews that have been written about them.
All eight reviews of the shoes, which feature a very pronounced square-toed shape, give them five stars - although the comments themselves reveal a marked sense of sarcasm.
'I've been wearing them around the house pretty much every day!' wrote one reviewer, adding: 'The best part is, I can flip pancakes with them!'

The website's description of the footwear reads: 'Alluring square toe slip-on with charming detail and design. A must have for your dress collection this season.'
But their bizarre shape give them a clownish appearance, a fact that one commenter drew on in his review of them.
Calling them a 'time saver', the customer wrote that the multi-purpose shoes are very convenient on snowy, winter days.

'When I really don't want to go to work I quite often drag my feet on the way to the car,' he wrote. 'Thanks to these new super-shoes, I can shovel the pavement while I walk!'
He then added that the pair are 'a must-have for anyone who hates the repetition of snow shoveling, or has Sideshow Bob feet.'
Another commenter remarked on the shoes' appeal to the opposite sex.

Multi-purpose: Civad from Rhode Island wrote: 'I was able to use them to wedge my door open! These shoes were more useful than a credit card'

    Walmart shoes
Five stars: Another humorous reviewer said the the best part of the 'super-shoes' is that they are particularly handy on snowy days, when they can double as shovels

'When I wore them out of the store you should have seen the looks I was getting,' he wrote. 'All the mamacitas were checking them out and saying they were looking good.'
The reviewer pointed out that the shoes have one setback, however: 'You need to wear mudguards as on a rainy day you will get your face splashed if you don't watch it,' he explained.
'A must-have for anyone who hates snow shoveling, or has Sideshow Bob feet'
Some of the customers note in their reviews that the shoes can be used for other purposes.
'I locked myself out of my apartment last Sunday,' wrote Civad from Rhode Island.
'Luckily, I was wearing my Zota G803-10's and was able to use them to wedge my door open! These shoes were more useful than a credit card.'
Another said: 'The bindings are very comfortable, and there is plenty of storage space for keys and loose change.'
And one humorous commenter joked that the shoes are 'great for the beach'.

'I get many compliments at the beach when I wear them with my speedos!' he wrote. 'A must buy for any beach-goer, if you're going to the tropics on vacation buy them before you leave!'

Internet giants Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc..helping US government spy on millions of Britons

The US government could be secretly spying on millions of UK citizens through their online profiles and passing the information to British agents, it emerged today.

The National Security Agency and the FBI have been pulling personal data directly from the mainframes of nine top US tech giants, including Apple, Google and Facebook, for the past six years as part of a top-secret initiative codenamed PRISM.

While the NSA is by far the biggest surveillance agency in the world, it regularly shares its work its British counterparts, triggering fears the information of any Brit with an online footprint with one of the targetted firms could have been plundered.

The revelation - which is the largest anti-terror intelligence-gathering operation since 9/11 - will place massive pressure on Obama, who is already reeling from the recent IRS scandal.

I know what you're doing this summer: The Obama administration defended the order on Thursday, calling it 'a critical tool in protecting the nation from terrorist threats'

Classified: The particulars of the PRISM data-mining program have been outlined in a top-secret PowerPoint presentation for senior intelligence analysts, which ended up being leaked

Participants: This graph shows when each of the nine tech companies joined PRISM, with Apple being the latest addition in October 2012

The NSA is known to collaborate with four other allies: Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Together, they are known as the 'five eyes', of which the second biggest is Britain's General Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).

In addition to the names already on the list, the cloud-storage service Dropbox was described as 'coming soon' to PRISM.

NSA IN THE USA: HOW AGENCY HAS TAPPED ITS OWN CITIZENS

Set up by Harry Truman (pictured) in 1953, The NSA is the eyes and ears of America across the globe, intercepting 1.7 billion emails, phone calls a day’.

It is the the secretive body that serves the military and intelligence communities by collecting all forms of foreign communications to prevent attacks on the US.

It was prohibited by law from intercepting domestic communications without a warrant until George W. Bush issued a caveat in the wake of 9/11 under the controversial 'terrorist surveillance program'.

Nonetheless, over the years the NSA has been engulfed in a number of snooping scandals.

They include President Nixon's illegal wiretapping, through the NSA, of five members of his national security staff, two newsmen, and a staffer at the Department of Defense in a bid to uncover who was leaking information about his plans for the Vietnam War.

In 2005 it was revealed George W Bush had authorized the NSA to eavesdrop on Americans calling abroad without warrants in a bid to thwart terrorism. He strenuously denied the allegations until he finally conceded he had committed an impeachable offense.

And in 2009, under President Obama, the US Department of Justice acknowledged the NSA had gone beyond its remit in tapping the phonelines of American citizens, including a Congressman, but claimed that the acts were unintentional and had since been rectified.

Last month, it was accused of building an £800million cyber base to keep tabs on American citizens.

The state-of-the-art data centre in the Utah desert – codenamed Bumblehive – is intended to bolster online security efforts.

But former employees say it could be used to monitor people’s private emails.

The NSA branded the allegations 'unfounded', adding that it remained 'unwavering' in its respect for U.S. laws and American citizens' civil liberties, and noted that it was subject to broad oversight by all three branches of government.

Twitter, which is known for zealously protecting its users' privacy, is conspicuous in its absence from the list of Internet companies involved in the data-mining program.

PRISM was launched in 2007 with the blessing of special federal judges under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The Post said that several members of the U.S. Congress were made aware of the classified data-gathering program, but were sworn to secrecy.

All forms of wiretapping of U.S. citizens by the NSA requires a warrant from a three-judge court set up under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act passed in 1978.

But former President George W. Bush issued an executive order shortly after the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York that authorised the NSA to monitor certain phone calls without obtaining a warrant.

The warrantless wiretapping programme remained a secret until 2005, when a whistleblower went to the press to reveal the extent of the surveillance.

And although the NSA has strenuously denied acting beyond its surveillance powers, groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) have warned that the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) - a bill currently passing through Congress - could dramatically increase the amount of personal data that government agencies have legal access to.

The particulars of the program have been outlined in a top-secret PowerPoint presentation for senior intelligence analysts, which ended up being leaked to The Post and Britain's The Guardian.

According to The Washington Post, the tech companies are knowingly taking part in PRISM, but The Guardian reported than all nine pleaded ignorance of the program.

In a statement issued by Google, the company said it 'cares deeply about the security of our users' data. We disclose user data to government in accordance with the law, and we review all such requests carefully.

'From time to time, people allege that we have created a government "back door" into our systems, but Google does not have a back door for the government to access private user data.'

Apple Inc on Thursday said it does not provide any government agency with direct access to its servers, denying a key aspect of a Washington Post report.

'We have never heard of PRISM,' Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said. 'We do not provide any government agency with direct access to our servers, and any government agency requesting customer data must get a court order.'

Asked whether Apple joined the NSA-FBI data collection program, Apple declined to comment beyond its brief statement.

Bombshell: NSA and FBI have been extracting audio, video, photos, e-mails, documents and other data from Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, YouTube, Skype, AOL and PalTalk

Key source: PRISM has been described by NSA officials 'as the most prolific contributor to the president's Daily Brief,' providing analysts with a wealth of 'raw material'

According to the Post, PRISM has been described by NSA officials 'as the most prolific contributor to the president's Daily Brief' and the 'leading source of raw material.'

As a cryptolific intelligence agency of the U.S. Department of Defense, the NSA is responsible for collecting and analyzing foreign communications and foreign signals intelligence. However, the agency allegedly has been using PRISM to target American Internet companies handling the accounts of domestic users on U.S. soil.

Analysts working for the NSA would reportedly pick out bits and pieces of data using search terms to help them zero in on foreign targets, but it is not unusual for American content to become swept in as well.

Denial: Google released a statement insisting that the company has not created a 'back door' into its system for the government to access its users' private information

Damage control: All nine companies allegedly involved in the spying program, among them Microsoft (left) and Apple (right), have denied knowledge of PRISM

Social media tool: Analysts targeting a potential terrorist or a spy would draw in information from his Facebook account, including his contacts

Outsider: Twitter, which has a reputation for protecting its users' privacy, was not on the list of Internet companies involved in the data-mining program

In practice, if collection managers in the NSA's Special Source Operation Group, which manages PRISM, have suspicion that their target is a foreign national engaged in terrorism or a spy, they move ahead to draw in all the data from the user's Facebook account, email inboxes and outboxes, and Skype conversations, which would often net in information on the suspect's contacts.

The 41-slide PowerPoint presentation outlining PRISM was leaked to the media by a career intelligence officer, which the Post says had 'firsthand experience with these system, and horror at their capabilities.'

The unnamed whistle-blower reportedly said he was driven by the desire to expose the government’s ‘gross intrusion on privacy.'

'They quite literally can watch your ideas form as you type,' the officer said.

'Reprehensible': Director of National Intelligence James Clapper branded the program 'reprehensible' and said it risks Americans' security

Spying: The NSA has been getting millions of phone records from Verizon on a daily basis for months without any justification for the order, that was only revealed today

The bombshell allegations come one day after it was revealed that the NSA has been collecting telephone records of millions of U.S. Verizon customers.

The Obama administration defended the order on Thursday, calling it 'a critical tool in protecting the nation from terrorist threats.'

But Director of National Intelligence James Clapper denounced the disclosure of highly secret documents Thursday and sought to set the record straight about how the government collects intelligence about people's telephone and Internet use.

He said he was declassifying some aspects of the monitoring to help Americans understand it better.

He called the disclosure of an Internet surveillance program 'reprehensible' and said it risks Americans' security.

Double bind: Part of the order mandated that Verizon not tell its' customer's about the record transfer nor could they admit that the order existed

He said a leak that revealed a program to collect phone records would affect how America's enemies behave and make it harder to understand their intentions.

'The unauthorized disclosure of a top secret U.S. court document threatens potentially long-lasting and irreversible harm to our ability to identify and respond to the many threats facing our nation,' Clapper said in an unusual late-night statement.

At the same time, he moved to correct misunderstandings about both programs, taking the rare step of declassifying some details about the authority used in the phone records program and alleging that articles about the Internet program 'contain numerous inaccuracies.'

He did not specify what those inaccuracies might be.

At issue is a court order, first disclosed Wednesday by The Guardian newspaper in Britain, that requires the communications company Verizon to turn over on an 'ongoing, daily basis' the records of its customers' calls. Separately, The Washington Post and The Guardian reported Thursday the existence of another program used by the NSA and FBI that scours the nation's main Internet companies, extracting audio, video, emails and other information.
