PHOTOS: Hollywood star Angelina Jolie receives honorary 'Dame' title from Buckingham Palace in recognition of her campaign against sexual violence

Hollywood star Angelina Jolie was awarded an honorary 'dame' title during a private audience with the Queen today in recognition of her campaign against sexual violence and trying to stamp out rape in war zones.

The actress was accompanied to the Palace by her husband, Brad Pitt, and their children.

Because she is a foreign citizen Jolie may not be addressed as Dame, but she can use the initials DCMG after her name

As an American citizen, it is highly unusual for Jolie to receive an honour from Britain. Foreigners are only occasionally awarded them,

It is also unusual for a dame title to be awarded to someone so young. The honour is usually bestowed later in life, after a recipient has earned a lower honour such as an OBE or a CBE.

Angry mob hacks off rapist's genitals in India

A 40 year old man accused of trying to rape a teenage girl is in a critical condition after locals hacked off his genitals with a meat cleaver in a butcher shop. He was found pinning down a terrified girl against a wall in an alley.

After hearing terrified screams coming from an alley in the city of Ganganagar, India, an angry mob took the law into their own hands, dragged Suresh Kumar into a butchers shop where they beat him with sticks for an hour, before chopping off his genitals with a meat cleaver.

They dumped the remains of the hacked off penis in the middle of the road with Kumar's bleeding body nearby.

A local, Aamir Dhawan said: "No one went to help the man because they could see his penis on the ground and knew this was punishment for a sex crime.

"We have had a lot of intolerable offences against women in this country recently, with girls being raped, hung, and molested, and it’s time it stopped.

"This sends out a very strong message to anyone like that - if you do it you will be punished."

According to a police spokesman: "People cannot take the law into your own hands.

"As deplorable as these crimes are, law and order has to be maintained, and not lynch justice....

"We ask those men who carried out this attack to hand themselves in before we find them.

Suresh was later taken to hospital where doctors described his condition as critical.
