Samsung Galaxy phone explodes in girl's pocket leaving severe burns

CEN
Injured: Ariana required a skin transplant following the incident
A seven-year-old girl has been left with horrific injuries after her smartphone EXPLODED in her pocket.
Ariana Aitzhan was playing in the garden in the Kazakhstan capital Astana when her parents report suddenly hearing screaming.
They rushed outside to see the remains of the Samsung Galaxy S2 model on the floor with the girl's friends saying it had exploded in her pocket.

Scared: Ariana Aitzhan's injured leg

Ariana was subsequently taken to hospital where she required a skin transplant.
Her father Yerlan recounted the harrowing moment he discovered the shocking extent of his daughter's injuries.
"When it exploded she was screaming and calling for help, a neighbour that was nearest pulled her jeans off and said that some of her skin came away with it.

Explosion: The burn suffered was so severe it actually went down to the bone

"The burn was horrific – it went all the way through to the bone."
Ariana's mother Alia Kamzina added: "She is in shock still, as are we all.
"She is now afraid of smartphones, she can't bear to even see one being used without being terrified."
Samsung have offered to pay for all of Ariana's medical bills and plastic surgery but Mr Aitzhan has so far refused to return the torched handset, for fear of his daughter's horrifying story being hushed up.

Soap made out of human breast milk! ...Would you use it for your baby to cure nappy rash and prevent eczema?

Business is booming for a new mum in China who used her breast milk to make soaps after her baby son refused to drink it
Taobao.com
Soap made from breast milk

A new soap made from breast milk that claims to cure nappy rash is proving popular in China.
The soap was invented by a new mum who found her baby son couldn't take breast milk.
Instead of wasting it, she decided to make soap from it so he would still get some of the skincare benefits.
The soaps are proving popular on China's answer to eBay and Amazon, Taobao.
With over 500 million registered users, Taobao has some unusual items.
The soap vendor writes that her creation is good for deep-cleansing adult skin but also helps prevent nappy rash on babies.
She has moulded the soaps into shapes likes teddies, rabbits, tortoises and fish.
She said: "I used to pour it all down the drain, but it seemed such a waste."
NHS studies show that breast milk (taken in the usual manner) improves a baby's chances of not developing skin conditions like eczema.

Duchess of Cornwall's brother Mark Shand dies after falling backwards while trying to re-enter a revolving door

Heartbreak: Camilla and her brother Mark Shand

The Duchess of Cornwall's brother Mark Shand died after falling backwards while trying to re-enter a revolving door.
Camilla Parker-Bowles and Prince Charles are said to be "utterly devastated" by the 62-year-old's death in New York.
Mr Shand, a well-known adventurer and travel writer, slipped in the early hours outside the Gramercy Hotel's Rose Bar.
New York Police Department said he had finished having a cigarette outside at around 2.50am when he fell backwards while trying to re-enter through a revolving door.
He was rushed to hospital where family were forced to decide to turn off a life support machine after being told he had no chance of surviving.
Fall: Mark Shand had been at an event at the Diamond Horseshoe Hotel in New York before he fell

His cause of death will be established by a medical examiner.
Mr Shand had been at an after-show party for a charity fund-raising event at the Diamond Horseshoe club that was also attended by Princess Eugenie, who is working in New York.
His only sister Camilla Parker-Bowles , 66, was given the news as she prepared for a high-profile tour to Canada with Prince Charles.
A spokesman for Clarence House said: “The Duchess [of Cornwall], the Prince of Wales and all her family are utterly devastated.
“Mark Shand was a man of extraordinary vitality, a tireless campaigner and conservationist whose incredible work through the Elephant Family remained his focus.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have also expressed their grief at the shock news.
A spokesman for William and Kate - who are currently on tour in Australia - said: "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were saddened to learn this morning of the tragic death of Mark Shand.
"Their thoughts are with The Duchess of Cornwall and her family at this time."
It was claimed Mr Shand’s condition was further complicated by warfarin tablets he was taking to thin his blood to assist a medical condition.
The travel writer had been attending an auction at Sotheby’s in New York in aid of underprivileged children and the Elephant Family – a charity trying to save the endangered Asian elephant from extinction.
Chief executive Ian Walkden said £950,000 for the charity had been raised at the auction with the help of Mr Shand.

He was recently forced to deny being in a relationship with Nancy Dell’Olio, the former girlfriend of ex-England football manager Sven Goran Eriksson.
Mr Shand , a rally driver and bobsleigh star, was expelled from a Dorset public school for smoking cannabis.
He was linked to a string of women, including Marie Helvin and Bianca Jagger, but in 1990 married Clio Goldsmith, niece of billionaire Sir James Goldsmith.
The couple were divorced in 2009. They have a daughter, Ayesha.
Rick Miramontez, spokesman for the Diamond Horseshoe, said: “Mr Shand was at the Diamond Horseshoe last night and he departed the venue.
“The accident occurred later in the evening at another destination.”

Supreme Court of Nigeria voids Igbo customary law, which disentitles a female child from partaking in the sharing of her deceased father’s estate

MONDAY, April 14, 2014, the Supreme Court voided the Igbo customary law, which denies daughters inheriting their fathers’ estate. The Supreme Court said it was discriminatory and in conflict with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It is a verdict that would have far-reaching effects in addressing a dehumanising tradition, which can no longer be excused in a modern, democratic society such as ours. It is a practice that regarded women as lower than men.
The judgment was given in a family dispute between Gladys Ada Ukeje, who was disinherited from the estate of her deceased father, Lazarus Ogbonna Ukeje. She sued her step-mother, Mrs. Lois Chituru Ukeje and her son, Enyinnaya Lazarus Ukeje.
A Lagos High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court all reached the same decision. They confirmed that Gladys was qualified under the laws of Nigeria to inherit her father’s estate. The verdict should settle this matter forever in favour of all daughters in all corners of the country to claim their birthright, which they had been denied. It is a resounding victory for human rights and equality, which Nigerians should applaud for the hopes it creates for families without male children.
Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who read the lead judgment stated, “No matter the circumstances of the birth of a female child, such a child is entitled to an inheritance from her late father’s estate. Consequently, the Igbo customary law, which disentitles a female child from partaking in the sharing of her deceased father’s estate, is a breach of Section 42(1) and (2) of the Constitution, a fundamental rights provision guaranteed to every Nigerian”.
Civil society, the media and human rights advocacy groups should enlighten the public that this discriminatory customary practice has been annulled. The law enforcement agencies must ensure that it is enforced as part of the laws of the land.
The traditional institutions that had insisted on the practice should embrace the changing times by according women their places, other than the kitchen, in society.
Gladys’ courage is commendable. Laws are meant to protect us, but they only do when we take refuge in them. Other obnoxious customary practices that dehumanise widows and deprive them of their husbands’ possessions should be addressed too.
The role of women in modern society is changing. They are now assuming more leadership responsibilities than the traditional society envisaged. With more access to education and opportunities, women are making more contributions to the society. Discriminatory practices against them are destroying some families, which still focus on male children, neglecting the female.
We applaud the judiciary for rising up to the defence of human rights and the Constitution.

Find The Best Haircut For Your Face Shape

how to find the right haircut for your face shape

No matter how superficial it may sound let’s just admit it. One of the beauty hurdles we obsess over is trying to find that perfect haircut that make us look – and feel – marvellous! And really, hair makes such a big difference to transform your look, so why wouldn’t you want to get it right? Luckily, there are a few tips and tricks to help us when we have no idea where to look…and get this – it all boils down to our face shape.
Here are some of my favourite hair cuts to flatter five common face shapes and why they work.

Oval
You have an oval face if the length of your face is greater than the width of your face.

Celebrity inspiration: Beyoncé

Beyonce

The key with an oval face type is that your haircut can really change the shape of your face—and lucky for you, oval faces can really play with all types of haircuts from short to long depending on your hair texture. Add a fringe on an oval face and your face will become more square looking, while a mid-length cut with some layers adapted to your hair texture will create movement.

Square
You have a square face if the width and length of your face is very similar and you have a broad jaw line and forehead.

Celebrity inspiration: Nia Long

If your face is square, you can go with harder lines in your cut, such as a shorter bob. From cutting a fringe to accenting the jaw line or going with longer hair with shorter layers to add texture and soften the face shape—all of this is do-able with your face shape. One thing you may want to avoid? Slashing off too much length. Very short hair can look very hard on a face shape like this.

Round
Your face is round if the width and length of your face is quite similar, but there’s a circular feeling to the overall shape of your face.

Celebrity inspiration: Jennifer Hudson

jennifer-hudson

Short hair is for you! But if short hair is not your thing, keep it longer at all one length and or mid-length. Stick to more classic cuts that are mid-length or long, if you’re not going very short. Bobs can make the face look rounder and often are not flattering with round faces.

Heart
Your face is heart-shaped if your cheekbones and forehead are wider than your forehead and you have a delicate chin.

Celebrity inspiration: Ciara

Ciara 2013 American Music Awards - Arrivals

If you have a heart shape face, you’re a candidate for a straight across fringe. A heart-shape face is close to an oval and have versatility when it comes to the styles you can pull off. Another look that you can rock? A shorter disconnected bob.

Long
You have a long face if your face is longer than it is broad – often quite narrow in width, and with high cheekbones.

Celebrity inspiration: Alicia Keys

alicia-keys

With a long face, longer hair works best, with some shorter layers cut in to add shape and framing to the face. Bangs can also help in making your face appear shorter—the idea being that adding width will create the perception of less vertical length to your face.

Detox plan for the next seven days

1. Morning lemon juice: This is an oldie but a goodie to kick start the digestion and cleanse the system. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon in a cup of hot water. Drink first thing in the morning before breakfast.

2. Exercise: During detox aim to exercise for one hour daily. And not just any exercise – something that makes you pant and puff and raise a sweat like a spin class, jog along the beach, walking uphill, hot yoga or boxing. Vigorous exercise increases lymph flow and circulation to help sweat out toxins.

3. Raw foods: Aim to cut out the cooking process and eat mainly raw foods. Raw foods contain more nutrients and enzymes. Try adding fresh sprouts to a salad daily.

4. Detox the mind: While you're detoxing the body, its good to clear the clutter from the mind too. Aim for 15 minutes of meditation per day. If you don't know how to meditate, try belly breathing. Start by placing hands palm down on your lower belly. Breathe in through your nose, counting slowly to 3 or 4 counts. Feel your tummy rise with the breath. Breathe out just as slowly, allowing the belly to drop. Do this for 15 minutes daily.

5. Drink: Aim to drink three litres of fluid daily. This will help move the lymph and support kidney detoxification. Choose from pure spring water, fresh vegetable juice and herbal detox teas. Or make your own brew by mixing one or a combination of Dandelion root and nettle, cleavers, calendula, burdock and red clover. Add one teaspoon of the dried herbs to a cup of boiling water. Leave to steep for five minutes, strain and drink.

6. Body brushing: Doing this daily will support circulation and increase skin detoxification. Using a loofah or natural fibre body brush, brush the skin with firm circular strokes before you step into the shower. Start from the feet and hands, moving up the legs and towards the arms, avoiding the delicate area of throat and face, and any rash or sore spots. Then jump in the shower. Finish your shower with a one-minute burst cold water which brings the blood circulation to the skin.

7. Chew: Aim to chew each mouthful of food 10 to 12 times before swallowing. Bringing mindfulness to mealtimes improves digestion, allowing you to feel a sense of fullness without a need to overeat.

Note: Don't detox if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, elderly, have high blood pressure, are underweight or against your health practitioner's recommendation.

Women who've had plastic surgery in South Korea often end up with larger eyes, higher noses and thinner chins

Some women are having to renew their passports after surgery so as to have a new photo included

Some hospitals in South Korea are said to be giving patients certificates to prove they have had surgery so they can get through passport control.
Those who have flown in from abroad to have the operations are, in some cases, so transformed that they are struggling to get through passport control on the way home.

The patients are often said to have bigger eyes, higher noses and slimmer chins than are shown in their passport photos. Image shows two different 'before' and 'after' pictures of women who have had plastic surgery in South Korea.

The country is rapidly becoming the home of plastic surgery and people there have the most cosmetic procedures per head of population, according to global figures released last year by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

West Ham have announced the death of striker Dylan Tombides at the age of 20, following a battle with illness after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in the summer of 2011.

The Hammers confirmed that Tombides passed away on Friday morning, with a minutes applause scheduled to pay tribute to the youngster before their Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
A statement released by the club on Friday afternoon read: “West Ham United announce the sad news that forward Dylan Tombides has passed away at the age of 20 following his brave battle with cancer.
“Dylan passed away on Friday morning with his family by his side having courageously fought the disease for three years after initially being diagnosed with testicular cancer in summer 2011.
“He remained a regular visitor to Chadwell Heath throughout his treatment and his positive attitude and professional approach to his football and training always impressed and boosted his team-mates and coaches alike.”
Tombides was described by the club as a “resilient” fighter throughout his illness, having gone through months of surgery and chemotherapy while remaining positive, and on the pitch was said to be an “outstanding talent” which led to his first-team debut in their League Cup defeat to Wigan in 2012, coming off the bench for the latter stages.
“Dylan's amazing resilience and positivity saw him through months of surgery and chemotherapy, while his outstanding talent saw him make his first-team debut in a League Cup tie with Wigan Athletic at the Boleyn Ground in September 2012.
“Away from the pitch, Dylan did a huge amount of work to raise awareness of male cancer, supporting the One for the Boys campaign at a number of high-profile events alongside the likes of Hollywood star Samuel L. Jackson, snooker star Jimmy White and fellow Australian Peter Andre.
“Dylan was respected by everyone who knew him for his intelligent views on the game and his larger than life character. He was a loving son, amazing brother and well-respected member of the West Ham squad. He will be hugely missed by everyone who had the honour of knowing him.”
West Ham players will also wear black armbands in respect of the Australian, who made five appearances for their Under-17s and four appearances this year for the Under-23s.
The club said that their thoughts are with Tombides parents Tracylee and Jim, as well as his brother Taylor and friends and family. They ask that they are allowed to grieve the sad death in peace.

Ohio couple who held hands at breakfast every morning even after 70 years of marriage have died 15 hours apart

NASHPORT, Ohio (AP) — A couple who held hands at breakfast every morning even after 70 years of marriage have died 15 hours apart.

Helen Felumlee, of Nashport, died at 92 on April 12. Her husband, 91-year-old Kenneth Felumlee, died the next morning.

The couple's eight children say the two had been inseparable since meeting as teenagers, once sharing the bottom of a bunk bed on a ferry rather than sleeping one night apart, the Zanesville Times Recorder reported (http://ohne.ws/1in7erG).

They remained deeply in love until the very end, even eating breakfast together while holding hands, said their daughter, Linda Cody.

"We knew when one went, the other was going to go," she said.

According to Cody, about 12 hours after Helen died, Kenneth looked at his children and said, "Mom's dead." He quickly began to fade and was surrounded by 24 of his closest family members and friends when he died the next morning.

"He was ready," Cody said. "He just didn't want to leave her here by herself."

Son Dick Felumlee said his parents died of old age, surrounded by family.

"At Dad's bed we were singing his favorite hymns, reading scriptures and praying with him," he told The Associated Press in an email. "It was a going away party, and we know he loved it."

The pair had known each other for several years when they eloped in Newport, Ky., across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, on Feb. 20, 1944. At two days shy of his 21st birthday, Kenneth — who went by Kenny — was too young to marry in Ohio.

"He couldn't wait," son Jim Felumlee said.

Kenneth worked as a railroad car inspector and mechanic before becoming a mail carrier for the Nashport Post Office. He was active in his Nashport-Irville United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher.

Helen stayed at home, not only cooking and cleaning for her own family but also for other families in need in the area. She taught Sunday school, too, but was known more for her greeting card ministry, sending cards for birthdays, sympathy and the holidays to everyone in her community, each with a personal note inside.

"She kept Hallmark in business," daughter-in-law Debbie Felumlee joked.

When Kenneth retired in 1983 and the children began to leave the house, the Felumlees began to explore their love of travel, visiting almost all 50 states by bus.

"He didn't want to fly anywhere because you couldn't see anything as you were going," Jim Felumlee said.

Although both experienced declining health in recent years, Cody said, each tried to stay strong for the other.

"That's what kept them going," she said.

That is also the reason why Brad and Angie are hoping for a second set of twins. If she conceives again, it will be the last time she is able to give birth to her own biological children.

Angelina Jolie, 38, and Brad Pitt, 50, are ready for more kids and would like to welcome two more children before Angie has her next preventative surgery.
