Tesco store to offer free HIV tests and give out complimentary condoms

The supermarket is setting aside a room for six weeks from Monday so that a sexual health organisation can do the tests - which give an outcome in 60 seconds

Shoppers at a Tesco Extra store will be able to have a free HIV test.

The shop is setting aside a room for six weeks from Monday so that a sexual health organisation can do the tests.

The charity will also give out free condoms.

Sarah Macadam, boss of Thames Valley Positive Support, said: “We want tonormalise HIV testing and the best way to do that is in everyday environments.

“We would like to branch out into leisure centres, gyms and other shops.”

Customers will be offered a pinprick test, which gives results in 60 seconds. An alternative oral swab has an outcome in 20 minutes.

The trial in Slough, Berks, will continue if successful.

In November, a free HIV testing clinic opened in a Baptist church in Walthamstow, East London.

Beyonce, Jay Z & Solange Finally Break Their Silence About The Elevator Fight

NEW YORK (AP) — Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange say "families have problems and we're no different" after a video leaked of Beyonce's sister attacking the rap mogul in a hotel elevator.

In an exclusive statement to The Associated Press on Thursday, the trio said they have worked through their differences and moved on since the video emerged this week showing Solange kicking Jay Z as Beyonce looked on."As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it," the statement said. "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."

It was the first comment the performers had made since the website TMZ posted the 3-minute video on Monday, saying it was shot last week inside the Standard Hotel. The video, which does not have audio, shows Solange attacking Jay Z in Beyonce's presence; a security guard intervenes. The footage shows the performers in the outfits they wore to the Met Gala.

"The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false," the statement continued. "At the end of the day families have problems and we're no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We've put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same."

The hotel said Wednesday it had fired the person who recorded the video.

Beyonce and Jay Z, who were married in 2008, will kick off their co-headlining "On the Run Tour" on June 25 in Miami.

Baby miraculously survives 11-storey fall

A baby in the US state of Minnesota has survived an 11-storey fall from an apartment balcony, local media report.

Musa Dayib, one, has two arm fractures and is breathing with the help of a ventilator but is expected to live, after slipping through a railing.

His doctor said his youth as well as the softer ground he landed on helped contribute to his survival.

Family and friends in Minneapolis's Somali community say the family is in shock.

"When people found out he survived, no one could believe it," community activist Abdirizak Bihi told the Star-Tribune newspaper.

"I'm more concerned about his dad and his mother," Mr Bihi said. "They're devastated. They can't even speak."

Dr Tina Slusher, who treated Musa, said an adult who fell from that distance would almost certainly be dead.

"Little [children] are more flexible and don't break as easily as we do and he also fell in a very small patch of mulch [loose material put on soil]," she told local broadcaster KARE.

But she added it was "definitely a miracle. It's God's gift to his family. Kids don't fall this far and make it often."

The toddler avoided hitting a pavement more than 100 feet below and a steal box by inches, in what one doctor described as 'a gift from God'.

Dr Tina Slusher from the pediatric intensive care unit the hospital said: 'If you and I fell that far, we would be dead.'

Now an insider is commenting on why they might've handled this sitch so smoothly…because it apparently isn't the first time:

Now there is another question to be answered....what prompted Solange's actions in the elevator?

Recent reports suggest it had something to do with Jay Z's plans to party after the Met Gala with Rihanna. Yep, now RiRi has been dragged into it.

The New York Daily News reports the dispute was caused by "the rapper's wish to keep the party going at a shindig hosted by RiRi," and Solange really wasn't happy about this.

According to a source, Solange was heard saying, "Why can't you go home?" before turning to her sister to say, "Why does your husband need to go to the club right now?"

Allegedly, Jay Z's response was, "You're one to talk," which sparked the start of Solange's violent outburst.

The report also suggests tension was caused earlier in the night when a few of Solange's friends tried to get into the Met Gala after-party by using Jay Z's name.

"They wouldn't leave and kept name-dropping Jay Z. They were pretending they were guests of his and not hers. Management went to Julius (Beyonce's bodyguard) and said there's a problem."

Teenage cancer hero Stephen Sutton dies after raising £3.2 million for charity

Donations to the inspirational 19-year-old's fundraising page continue to flood in, after he finally loses his four-year fight with bowel cancer

Stephen Sutton, who raised more than £3 million pounds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, has died aged 19.

The final chapters of Stephen's inspirational story touched thousands of well-wishers, as well as a long list of celebrities who helped him achieve the astonishing fundraising sum.

Stephen, a talented student and drummer, was diagnosed with bowel cancer aged 15. Two years later, doctors told him his condition was incurable.

He devoted his remaining time to raising money and awareness for Teenage Cancer Trust and telling his story in a daily blog.

Stephen, a former pupil at Chase Terrace Technology College in Staffordshire, drew up a 'bucket list' of 46 tasks he wanted to complete before his life ended, one of which was to raise £10,000 for charity.

With the help of scores of generous well-wishers, Stephen smashed that target and decided to set a more ambitious goal - £1m.

Dozens of celebrities, including comedians Jason Manford, Jimmy Carr and John Bishop got behind Stephen's fundraising drive, tweeting pictures of themselves giving him the thumbs up and encouraging people to donate. The £1m target was achieved with days of it being set, and has since topped £3.2 million.

A petition calling for Stephen to be knighted was also signed by more than 35,000 people.

On Tuesday night, Stephen's family left a message on his Facebook page to say his condition had deteriorated.

And in a heartbreaking message this morning, his mum said: "My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 14th May.

"The ongoing support and outpouring of love for Stephen will help greatly at this difficult time, in the same way as it helped Stephen throughout his journey. We all know he will never be forgotten, his spirit will live on, in all that he achieved and shared with so many."

The news came following a post by Stephen on April 22 where he gave a final "thumbs-up selfie" where he said: "It’s a final thumbs up from me! I’ve done well to blag things as well as I have up till now, but unfortunately I think this is just one hurdle too far."

But, remarkably, just two days later his condition - and mood - had improved and Stephen took to his blog to say he was "still here and still fighting".

Stephen's Story also caught the attention of Prime Minister, David Cameron, who visited the teenager in hospital and described him as "an inspiration".

He said: Anyone who watches that video on YouTube can't help but be impressed by his bravery and courage but also his incredible warmth and passion for life."

Kelly Rowland reportedly married to Tim Witherspoon over the weekend

Kelly Rowland has reportedly married her longtime beau, and manager, Tim Witherspoon in a simple ceremony over the weekend. 

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Rowland, 33, and Witherspoon tied the knot in Costa Rica with Beyonce and Solange Knowles in attendance. 

A source described the occasion as a "quick, simply ceremony -- only around 30 people."

Rowland announced in December that she was engaged on The Queen Latifah Show saying, "He put a ring on it...it's been a while. We've kept it very, very low--for years, to be completely honest."

Beyonce posted a picture onInstagram on May 9 in what appeared to be a bridesmaid's dress captioning it with a simple, "Good Morning."

Jay Z was ferociously assaulted by Beyonce's sister Solange  ... who was wildly kicking and swinging at him inside an elevator ... and the attack was captured on surveillance video ... obtained by TMZ.
According to our sources, it all went down at a Met Gala after party last week at the Standard Hotel in NYC.  In the video ... Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange step into the elevator ... and then Solange goes crazy, screaming at Jay before unleashing a violent attack.

A large man -- who appears to be a bodyguard -- attempts to hold Solange back, but she manages to connect at least 3 times.  At one point Solange throws a kick and Jay grabs her foot, but never attempts to strike her.  Beyonce stands by without getting physically involved.

And this is interesting.  When you look closely, you see the bodyguard hit the emergency stop switch on the 12th floor -- mid fight -- presumably to keep the fight private.

At one point, Solange smacks Jay with her purse ... spilling the contents all over the floor of the elevator.

Eventually the group exits the elevator ... but not before Solange takes a few last shots.

All three walked out of the building together -- Solange looks pissed -- but while Bey and Solange get in one car ... security walks Jay to a different one.

It's unclear what triggered the fight.

A new video released by Islamist militants Boko Haram claims to show around 100 girls kidnapped from a school in Nigeria last month.

The group's leader, Abubakar Shekau, said they would be held until all imprisoned militants had been freed.

He said the girls had converted to Islam. The video, released on Monday, claims to show them praying.


Boko Haram abducted more than 200 girls from northern Nigeria on 14 April and threatened to sell them.

The BBC's John Simpson in the northern city of Maiduguri said Boko Haram's comments showed signs that the group was willing to negotiate.

Three of the girls are shown speaking in the 17-minute video, obtained by French news agency AFP, wearing the full-length hijab.

Two girls say they were Christian and have converted to Islam, while the other says she is Muslim.

"These girls, these girls you occupy yourselves with... we have indeed liberated them. These girls have become Muslims," Abubakar Shekau says in the video.

It is thought the majority of the abducted girls are Christians, although there are a number of Muslims among them.

Correspondents said the girls appeared calm and one said that they had not been harmed.

There is no indication of when or where the video was taken.

It is estimated to show about 130 girls - just under half of the 276 pupils abducted from their school in the northern state of Borno.

Our correspondent says this could mean the group has been split into smaller groups to help avoid detection.

Boko Haram had previously admitted to kidnapping the girls.

The group, whose name means "Western education is forbidden," said they should not have been at school and should get married instead.

Boko Haram has been engaged in a violent campaign against the Nigerian government since 2009.

On Friday mother-of-two Mrs Pountney said in a joint statement with her husband Derrick: "It is true that Jane and Kieran Hayler had an affair.

Choosing a name for the Toronto Zoo's newest gorilla has turned out to be a family affair.

The zoo says Charles, the Western lowland gorilla silverback who sired the female baby born Jan. 10, chose her name out of three possible contenders.

Charles was presented with three displays, each showing a potential name along with treats such as fruit, nuts, palm leaves and bamboo.


After considering the displays, Charles chose the one with the name Nneka, which means "supreme," "renowned" or "prominent."

Nia and Nyota rounded out the trio of names drawn from more than 10,000 public submissions and then narrowed down by a panel of judges.

The zoo says the almost four-month-old baby is the second born to mother Ngozi and the 10th offspring sired by Charles.

It says Nneka is genetically significant for the North American Western lowland gorilla population since it is a critically endangered species.

The zoo had asked people to try to come up with names that were African and that started with the letter "N" in keeping with the tradition of naming baby gorillas with the first letter of the mother's name.

Zoo staff say Ngozi has taken to motherhood very well and can be seen tenderly holding her daughter and patiently managing her son, Nassir, who appears to be curious about his new sibling.

"We are thrilled to have Nneka join our gorilla troop and become part of our successful breeding program," said Maria Franke, curator of mammals at the zoo.

The zoo has seven gorillas. The three adults are Charles, Josephine and Ngozi while the four young are Johari (female, born 2001), Sadiki (male, born 2005), Nassir (male, born 2009) and Nneka (female, born 2014).

The zoo also went to the public earlier this year to help name a polar bear cub born in November. The name Humphrey was the eventual winner after more than 14,000 people voted.

It all began with a bombshell tweet accusing husband Kieran Hayler of having an affair with her best friend Jane Pountney.

The husband of Katie Price’s former "best friend" last night DENIED his wife had a seven-month affair with the star’s husband.

Katie yesterday, went to see Jane, twice a bridesmaid at her weddings, for showdown talks.

Businessman Derrick Pountney, 51, said tears had been shed at his home yesterday during crisis talks over the feud between his wife of 11 years Jane, Katie and her third husband Kieran Hayler.

Derrick said the row, which model Katie launched on Twitter, had been a "storm in a teacup" and just a drunken kiss, but could not say if either marriage would survive.

Katie, 35, announced she would divorce Kieran, 27, following her own revelation about the "full blown sexual affair".

Derrick, who has a daughter and son with Jane, 48, said: “We are good friends of Katie and Kieran’s and have been good friends of Katie for a good 20 years.

“A lot of this drama has been a storm in a teacup and there’s a lot of misunderstandings to sort out.

Kieran was also there, and seen leaving without his wedding ring - though that K tattoo on his ring finger was still very much in evidence.

Katie eventually headed home after three hours of talks, giving Jane's husband Derrick a hug as she left.

Monica Lewinsky has broken her long silence by saying she 'deeply regrets' her affair with Bill Clinton.

The former White House intern has written for the first time about the controversial affair for a magazine, which will be published this week.

During the Vanity Fair essay, called Shame and Survival, the 40-year-old says it's “time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress."

Her comments come at a bad time for the Clintons, as speculation increases that Hilary Clinton will run for president in 2016.

Perhaps tellingly, she writes how she wants to set the record straight, warning how the scandal could affect “other people’s futures.”

Lewinsky's affair with Clinton began in 1996 when she was 22. News of the scandal broke two years later and almost ruined Clinton's presidency after he was impeached by the US Senate.

In the essay, she writes: “I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened."

Despite remaining silent for years about the affair, she also denies that the Clintons bought her silence.

She describes how she has found it incredible difficult to get a job and admits that it was a "consensual relationship" between the pair.

She reveals that she is speaking out now so that she could perhaps help other people suffering from humiliation.

In speaking out now, Lewinsky says she wants to stop “tiptoeing around my past — and other people’s futures.”
