Olawunmi Thorpe, Ph.D, died by the Iju Railway line not too far from the Lagos suburb where a Dana aircraft crashed last June 3, killing all 153 people on board in addition to ground casualties.

Dr. Thorpe died just as a Lagos-based NGO touched by his plight was making efforts to evacuate and take care of him.

“My dear brother, the man is dead,” journalist and social worker Larry Happiday, through whom News Express got to know of Dr. Thorpe’s plight, said a few minutes ago. “We just came to check on him only to be told that he died around 5pm. His body is still lying here close to the railway station by Fagba Bus-Stop. We don’t even know what to do but I wish there’s away to give him a befitting burial,” Happiday added.

Money Laundering Scandal: Gov. Ajimobi sues media outfit for N1bn

Governor Abiola Ajimobi

FOLLOWING alleged money laundering of about N500m in London by Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s wife and her arrest by Metropolitan police, the governor has filed N1billion suit against Independent Communications Network Limited.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Dr. Festus Adedayo.

According to him, the evening newspaper had on Tuesday published a piece entitled ‘Anxiety over Florence Ajimobi’s alleged arrest in UK’ wherein it published a story purportedly written by an online agency named Newsleak which alleged that the wife of the governor had been arrested in London for money laundering.

According to the release, the government of Oyo State had the responsibility to ensure that the media does not become an instrument in the hands of blackmailers for such acts.

“We want to state unequivocally that this report is not only wicked, it is the figment of the imagination of the writers.

Governor Ajimobi's Wife: I Was Never Arrested by Met Police

Wife of Oyo State Governor, Florence Abiola Ajimobi, has denied claims of her arrest by the Metropolitan Police for money laundering as reported in some online media.

Mrs. Ajimobi who spoke in a telephone interview said the story of her arrest was both shocking and surprising.

An online media had run a story of the purported arrest of the governor's wife for allegedly laundering N500million.

But the embattled First Lady told newsmen on telephone Tuesday night that she was never invited nor arrested by the Met police on any charge.

"I have never been invited by the police. I don't know where they got the information from. I don't know what they are talking about. It is all lies," she said.

She, however, confirmed being in London to attend to her 14-year-old daughter, who is schooling in the United Kingdom.

She promised to return to the country Wednesday.

Florence also denied that she has been to London 52 times since her husband's inauguration as the state governor.

"It is laughable that I have travelled 52 times. It means that I hardly stay in Ibadan or I travel every week.

"I have been living in London since 2007. I have even travelled less since 2011 when my husband became the governor," she said.
