Boston Bombings: 'America Took My Kids Away' - Mother of Boston Suspects Speaks Out

The mother of Boston bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has said she does not accept her sons carried out the attacks and said she wished she had never brought her family to America.
Zubeidat Tsarnaeva told a press conference in the Russian republic of Dagestan that "America took my kids away from me."
"I would prefer not to have lived in America, why did I go there?," she told the conference on Thursday.
"I thought America would protect us, America took my kids away from me... I'm sure my kids were not involved in anything."

She says authorities have already told her she will not be able to visit her son as he lies in hospital and is unsure whether to return to the country as she was caught shoplifting in Massachusetts in 2012 and fears she will be arrested if she returns.
Her husband, Anzor Tsarnaev told the press conference he would be going to America. He told reporters: "I want to say that I am going there to see my son, to bury the older one. I don't have any bad intentions. I don't plan to blow up anything."
He stressed "I am not angry at anyone. I want to go find out the truth."

Zubeidat Tsarnaeva has previously insisted that her sons were framed "just because they were Muslim."
She has always maintained her children could not be involved in the Boston marathon bombings, which injured more than 180 people and killed eight-year-old Martin Richard, Krystle Campbell, 29, and a Chinese graduate student, named in reports as Lu Lingzi.
Tamerlan, 26 was killed in police gunfire after a car chase following the shooting of Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer Sean Collier, in Watertown earlier on Friday.
Dzhokhar managed to flee on foot, before being found early on Saturday, wounded and hiding in a boat in a suburban back garden.
Her latest comments came as it was revealed Tamerlan had been added by the CIA to a database of known and suspected terrorists in 2011, on suspicion that the 26-year-old had been radicalised.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Captured: Alleged Boston Marathon Bomber Arrested Following Manhunt

The hunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev ended Friday night when authorities captured the suspect wanted in connection to the bombing Monday at the Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Police Department. Authorities say the suspect, along with his brother, killed an MIT police officer, severely wounded another lawman and hurled explosives at police in a car chase and gun battle, according to the Associated Press.

Law enforcement officials in Watertown, Mass., responded to the site of reported gunfire around 7:00 p.m. -- approximately one hour after lifting a lockdown on the area -- where they found Tsarnaev, 19, hiding inside a small boat. Police cornered the suspect, not far from the site of a shootout the previous night that killed his brother and suspected accomplice,Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
The AP reports that the suspects were identified as ethnic Chechen brothers who had lived in Dagestan, which neighbors Chechnya in southern Russia. They had been in the U.S. for about a decade and were believed to be living in Cambridge, Mass.
While the searching was ongoing, authorities in Boston suspended mass transit and warned residents to stay indoors. SWAT teams were called in, as well as FBI special agents. Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said, "We believe this man to be a terrorist. We believe this to be a man who's come here to kill people."
Soon after the FBI released photos and videos of the young men at the Boston Marathon, Suspect 1 was killed. A day later, Suspect 2 was finally apprehended.
The streets of Watertown erupted in cheers as news came that the suspect had been captured alive, according to HuffPost reporters Christina Wilkie and Michael McLaughlin.
"I'm happy they caught him. I'm happy he's alive. I want to know why," said Jeannette Harvey, a Watertown resident who works at Massachusetts General Hospital in the trauma ward.
According to AP, Kathleen Paolillo, a 27-year-old teacher who lives in Watertown, also said, "Everyone wants him alive."
Residents were relieved as a heavily guarded ambulance headed east on Mount Auburn Street. It was unclear who was riding inside, but there was a sense that the danger was over.
The violent manhunt unfolded one night after FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers vowed that the alleged bombers would be "brought to justice."
President Barack Obama Friday night praised law enforcers and Bostonians after the massive manhunt that led to the capture of the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. The first suspect was killed Thursday in a shootout with police.
As he began his address, Obama thanked the public, saying, "Tonight, our nation is in debt to the people of Boston." He went on to thank Bostonians as "citizens and partners" in the investigation.
The president said he had ordered the "full resources of the federal government" to help in the investigation that he said wouldn't have been possible without close coordination among federal, state and local authorities.
"They all worked as they should," Obama said, "as a team."

Bride Ordered To Pay $8,000 Compensation To Groom For Secret Surgery To Restore Virginity

An Egyptian woman has been ordered to pay her former husband £5240 in compensation after he discovered she had lied to him about her virginity.
The man accused his wife of deceiving him into believing she had never been married before – and therefore a virgin – and of having surgery to fake her virginity, during a bitter divorce battle which went to the court of appeal in Abu Dhabi.
The court upheld a previous ruling that found she had deceived her husband and increased the compensation she must now pay for the emotional damage she caused him.
article-2311129-195f1a48000005dc-369_636x430

Accused: An Egyptian bride has been ordered to pay more than $8 000 compensation to her husband after he accused her of lying about being a virgin before they married
The money is also meant to help him overcome the stigma of what is considered in some parts of Arab society to be an embarrassing ordeal for him and his family.
The case centred around the original marriage contract made by the couple where the Egyptian bride, the court heard, allegedly faked a number of key points about her background.
The court established the woman had been married earlier and had divorced her first husband. It also acknowledged that she had made false statements “with the help of her father, in the couple’s marriage contract – stating that she had never been married or had s*x,” according to press reports.
The demise of the couple’s marriage came about following a spiteful sms message sent to the current husband, the court heard.
Court records show that after three years of marriage, and the birth of a child, her current husband received an anonymous text message informing him that his wife had been married in the past.
article-2311129-064425b90000044d-47_638x474
Tradition: Divorce is still frowned upon by some parts of Arab society and is seen as an embarrassment for those involved and their families
The text message was later followed up by a copy of the woman’s divorce document which was also sent to the husband as proof, prompting the man to file for divorce against his Egyptian wife for lying to him.
He claimed compensation from her for the emotional damage he suffered, claiming that he was “suffering from depression and had lost trust in the people around him as a result of her deception.”
The husband also accused his wife of undergoing surgery to make it seem as though she was a virgin – a simple operation which is becoming increasingly common in some Arab countries.
This is far from the first bizarre divorce case in the United Arab Emirates. In July of last year a Dubai court reportedly awarded an Emirati woman about $24 400 in a shocking divorce settlement, after she claimed her husband was “obsessed” with internet p****graphy.
It was also heard in court that their wedding was doomed from the beginning when the bridegroom allegedly admitted on their honeymoon to having sexually transmitted diseases which were currently being medically treated.

Robbers Loot Zik's Flat Female Hostel At University Of Nigeria, Nsukka

Unknown persons on Thursday morning broke into a female hostel at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, carting away students belongings.

The incident occurred at Zik’s Flat Hostel, located opposite the university’s second gate.

When the press visited the campus, students were seen counting their losses, which they put at millions of naira.

Students affected in the raid are mostly final year female students.

They stated that the theft occurred while they were away in the lecture hall.

“When we came back from class, we discovered signs of burglary in our door. The unknown thieves broke into more than ten rooms in our hostel,” one of the affected students said.

Refusing to give her name, she said in tears, “I lost my laptop, one of my mobile phones, cash and other personal belongings. Other students suffered similar fate.

“As I speak with you now, I am completely shattered because my project work is in that laptop.”

Another student who lost some items to the burglars lamented that such thing could happen even when the university has a security post in the hostel.

She said, “Those security men were there gisting while robbers carted away all our properties.”

She said the incident had been reported to both the student affairs department and the security.

Boston Bombing Suspects 'Identified' As Brothers From Russia, Near Chechnya-AP

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
By Associated Press
AP sources identify the surviving Boston bomber as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19. The man is said to be from Russia’s south, not far from the Chechen Republic.
The man reportedly lived in Turkey before arriving legally in the US at least a year ago.
The name is listed among the recipients of Cambridge scholarships in 2011.
The second suspect is said to be his brother Tamerlan, 26.
An NBC report claims the two immigrated at least two years ago. One of the brothers is  said to have a Massachusetts drivers’ license.
Some reports say the two may have arrived in the US from Turkey and have Turkish citizenship.
There is a page at the Russian social network VKontakte (In Contact) with the name Dzhokhar Tsarnaev living in Boston and studying at Cambridge Rindge & Latin School.
The Cambridge school mentions Dzhokhar Tsarnaev as its athlete of the month for February 2011, saying that he is an athlete.
The VKontakte page studied by RT mentions a school in Makhachkala, the capital of the Republic of Dagestan, as a place Tsarnaev studied between 1999 and 2001.
The Tsarnaev family moved to Dagestan from Kyrgyzstan in 2001, the school spokesman told RT. Dzhokhar studied there for just one year and  produced no particular impression, good or bad, on the teachers.
Dzhokhar has several Chechen-related interests stated in his profile. He states that he speaks Russian, English and Chechen and holds career and money as his personal priorities. He claims he is a believer in Islam.
The page has but a handful of posts, most of them jokes. The owner’s last visit of the page was from a mobile phone shortly before the shooting in Boston started.
Some Russian-language comments on the page accuse Tsarnaev of being behind the bombing. They were posted after the news of a possible connection of a Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to the bombing broke.

Seven members of a French family abducted in Cameroon in February have been freed unharmed

French Cameroon hostages freed

Former French hostages Tanguy Moulin-Fournier, his wife Albane and his brother Cyril pose at the French embassy in Yaounde on 19 April 2013 The adult family members have arrived at the French embassy in Yaounde

Seven members of a French family abducted in Cameroon have been freed, officials in both countries have said.

Cameroon's Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary told the BBC said they were in good condition and unharmed.

The family, including four children, were abducted in February by gunmen on motorbikes after a visit to Waza National Park in northern Cameroon.

In a video published on YouTube, militants from the Nigerian group Boko Haram claimed to be holding them.

"I spoke to the father this morning... He told me how happy and relieved he was"-Francois Hollande French president

President Francois Hollande said no ransom had been paid by France to secure the family's freedom.

Though he said secret talks had been taking place for the past few weeks to help secure their release, Reuters news agency reports.

"France has not changed its position, which is not to pay ransoms," the agency quotes him as saying at a news conference in Paris.

"I spoke to the father this morning... He told me how happy and relieved he was."

The release of the hostages was announced on national radio in Cameroon on Friday morning.

The statement from the presidency said they had been handed over to Cameroon authorities late on Thursday.

According to the Associated Press news agency, both the Nigerian and French governments were thanked in the statement.

The family has now arrived at the French embassy in the capital, Yaounde, with a heavy security escort, AFP news agency reports.

The French president's office said that Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius had immediately left for Cameroon to greet the family, the agency said.

Mr Fabius told AFP the French hostage were freed overnight "in an area between Nigeria and Cameroon".

Prisoner demand :

The family, who live in the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde, where the father worked for the French gas group Suez, had been returning from a holiday when they were kidnapped on 19 February.

Still from the video alleged to show the French victims The family, kidnapped on 19 February, is thought to have been held in Nigeria

In the YouTube video released about a week after their capture, the militants demanded the release of prisoners in Cameroon and Nigeria.

One of them also criticised President Hollande for sending troops to fight Islamist militants in northern Mali in January.

"Let the French president know that he has launched war against Islam," he said.

The French-led operation in Mali has ousted the Islamist groups, including al-Qaeda's North African branch, from cities and town in the vast desert region they had captured a year ago in the wake of a coup.

Nigeria has contributed troops to a regional African force which has begun deploying to Mali to take over from French troops.

One of the hostages in the video said his captors were "Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad" - the official name for Boko Haram, as the Islamist group is popularly known in Nigeria.

Boko Haram, which began its insurgency following a deadly crackdown on its members in 2009, had previously said it was not involved in hostage taking.

It has usually followed a Nigerian agenda, and says it wants to establish an Islamic state.

During its insurgency at least 2,000 people have been kill in northern and parts of central Nigeria.

Another Islamist group, Ansaru - which was formed in 2012 and is believed to have links to al-Qaeda - is also active in northern Nigeria and has been involved in abducting foreigners.

‘Medical doctor’ nabbed for working with stolen certificates for one year

‘Medical doctor’ works with stolen certificates for one year
Michael Akorful Onyeagolo who claimed to be a medical practitioner with a popular hospital in Festac Lagos, was yesterday arrested by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and Lagoa State Health Facility Monitoring Agency (HEFAMA) for impersonation. Onyeagolo 28, aka Dr. Hilary Abiwu, confessed that he was not a medical doctor. He said he stole the certificates from a doctor in Ghana.
Michael who hails from Imo State had been practising until nemesis caught up with him when he mismanaged a patient who was brought to the hospital. He said, “I was in school in Ukraine but could not graduate. I ran away from the school because I was to be arrested for being a witness to a crime. I went out to a joint with my friends one day and there was a fight. In the course of the fight, somebody died. The police arrested the guy and were looking for me. So I ran away.” On how he began to practice, he said a friend of his name Obinna Uche, a businessman gave him the certificates with which he had been working.
“When I ran away from the school, I went to meet my friend Obinna who gave me the documents. So, I came down to Nigeria and obtained a licence to practice.” Michael after much interrogation, by Dr. Okwuokenye Henry and Dr. Theophilus Ajayi, admitted that he stole the certificates by himself from Dr. Abiwu Hilarious. Dr. Henry Okwuokenye, HOD, Inspectorate Department of MDCN who led the team, said the certificate was not given to Michael by anybody, adding that he lived with Dr. Abiwu for two months and stole the doctor’s certificates. “From our investigation, it was revealed that he stole the documents from Dr. Abiwu who resides in Ghana.
When Michael came to us, he presented himself as the owner of the documents and registered for our assessment examination that is done by all trained foreign medical doctors. He did the examination twice and failed and on the third sitting, he passed and we gave him a provisional licence. In the process of verifying his documents, we discovered that his certificates were stolen from another doctor in Ghana.
We contacted the Medical and Dental Council Ghana who gave us the relevant documents and the real photograph of the doctor, who also wrote to us.” “Since then, we have been looking for him until report came to us that he mismanaged a patient. That was how we got his address.” Okwuokenye advised all quack doctors in Nigeria to desist from their evil practices adding, that the Registrar (MDCN), Dr. Ibrahim Abdumumin had vowed to rid the society of quacks in the medical field.

Suspicious highly toxic substance found on letter sent to President Obama

By Mike Brooks and Dana Bash, WASHINGTON (CNN) — A letter addressed to President Barack Obama that contained a “suspicious substance” has been intercepted at the White House’s off-site mail facility, a Secret Service spokesman said Wednesday.
The letter arrived Tuesday, the same day as an envelope addressed to a U.S. senator that initially tested positive for the deadly poison ricin.
Further testing took place Wednesday on an envelope addressed to a U.S. senator’s office that initially tested positive for the deadly poison ricin, the FBI said.
The envelope was intercepted Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol’s off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN.
Coming on the day after the Boston Marathon bombings, the envelope further heightened security concerns at a time when Congress is considering politically volatile legislation to tough gun laws and reform the immigration system.
“Monday’s attack in Boston reminded us that terrorism can still strike anywhere at any time,” Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Wednesday. “And as yesterday’s news of an attempt to send ricin to the Capitol reminds us, it is as important as ever to take the steps necessary to protect Americans from those who would do us harm.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he was told the envelope was addressed to the office of Sen. Roger Wicker, a conservative Republican from Mississippi.
A laboratory in Maryland confirmed the presence of ricin after initial field tests also indicated the poison was present, according to Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Terrance Gainer.
However, the FBI said additional testing was needed because field and preliminary tests produce inconsistent results.
“Only a full analysis performed at an accredited laboratory can determine the presence of a biological agent such as ricin,” according to the bureau. “Those tests are in the process of being conducted and generally take from 24 to 48 hours.”
In a statement late Tuesday, the U.S. Capitol Police said further tests would be conducted at the Army’s biomedical research laboratory at Fort Detrick, Maryland.
The envelope had a Memphis, Tennessee, postmark and no return address, Gainer wrote in an e-mail to senators and aides.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Missouri, told reporters after a briefing for lawmakers that a suspect has already been identified in the incident, but a knowledgeable source said no one was in custody Tuesday night.
Wicker has been assigned a protective detail, according to a law enforcement source.
Postal workers started handling mail at a site off Capitol Hill after the 2001 anthrax attacks that targeted then-Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-Nebraska, and Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, among others.
Senators were told Tuesday that the mail facility would be temporarily shut down “to make sure they get everything squared away,” McCaskill said Tuesday afternoon.
“The bottom line is, the process we have in place worked,” she said, adding that members of Congress will be warning their home-state offices to look out for similar letters.
McConnell, R-Kentucky, also praised the postal workers and law enforcement officers for “preventing this threat before it even reached the Capitol.”
“They proved that the proactive measures we put in place do in fact work,” he said.

A previous ricin scare hit the Capitol in 2004, when tests identified a letter in a Senate mailroom that served then-Majority Leader Bill Frist’s office. The discovery forced 16 employees to go through decontamination procedures, but no one reported any ill effects afterward, Frist said.
Ricin is a highly toxic substance derived from castor beans. As little as 500 micrograms — an amount the size of the head of a pin — can kill an adult. There is no specific test for exposure and no antidote once exposed.
It can be produced easily and cheaply, and authorities in several countries have investigated links between suspect extremists and ricin. But experts say it is more effective on individuals than as a weapon of mass destruction.

Ricin was used in the 1978 assassination of Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov. The author, who had defected nine years earlier, was jabbed by the tip of an umbrella while waiting for a bus in London and died four days later.

CNN’s Tom Cohen, Rachel Streitfeld and Matt Smith contributed to this report.

Blair commended the progress made by Nigerian women and the giant strides they have taken in the country, saying they have been fully accommodated in the political arena of the continent which would enable them change the world.
She also commended the First Lady for her work in empowering Nigerian women, saying “We share common interest in the issues of women, coming from backgrounds that did not believe that women could make any difference”.
The First Lady appreciated the wife of former British Prime Minister for her kind words, noting that Nigeria and Britain have had a very fruitful relationship which she says would continue to blossom.
She urged Blair to always work in the interest of Nigerian women.
“I believe and appreciate you and the Cherie Blair Foundation which you have used to encourage women. I also wish to acknowledge your works in Africa which is duly recognised”, Mrs Jonathan said.

Boston marathon bombs made from pressure cooker - Police Sources

  • Boston marathon bombs were pressure cooker IEDs packed with ball-bearings: Devices that killed three, including eight-year-old boy waiting for his runner dad are used by terrorists in Afghanistan
  • Pressure-cooker bombs were packed with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings
  • Devices are frequently used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to Homeland Security
  • An al-Qaeda magazine last year listed U.S. sporting events as one of 'the most important enemy targets'
  • An eight-year-old boy and a 29-year-old woman were among the three killed in the attack
  • 176 people injured, at least 17 of them in critical condition and 'a lot' of amputations have been performed
  • Surgeons describe numerous severe injuries from 'pellets, shrapnel or nails from inside the bombs'
  • Investigators do not know of motive for the bombs or who is behind them but are questioning 'many people'
  • Obama vows to bring bombers to justice: 'The American people will not be terrorized'

The two bombs that killed three people and injured at least 176 at the Boston Marathon on Monday were made from six-litre pressure cookers crammed with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings and stashed in black backpacks, police sources revealed.

The cruelly-designed bombs have 'frequently' been used in Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Pakistan, according to a 2010 Homeland Security Department pamphlet - hinting at the origins of the bombers behind the worst terrorist atrocity in the U.S. since 9/11.

When the devices exploded near the crowded Boston Marathon finish line around 2.50pm on Monday, victims suffered as many as 40 shrapnel wounds each and at least 10 people needed amputations. Witnesses described seeing body parts flying through the air and shoes that 'still had flesh in them'.

The bombs used to kill and maim are believed to have contained black powder or gunpowder as the explosive, and information on how to make such a bomb is available on the internet, experts said. The devices were then left at the scene to look like discarded property, CBS News reported.

Investigators have also found pieces of an electronic circuit board which could indicate a timer was used in the detonation.
