Shareman Media, the Nigerian producer, and FilmOne Distribution, the Nigerian distributor of the feature film 'Half of a Yellow Sun', are pleased to announce that the highly-anticipated film will be released in Nigerian cinemas on Friday, the 25th of April 2014. The public release will be preceded by the African premiere, to be held in Lagos prior to the release date.
Set in 1960s Nigeria, 'Half of a Yellow Sun' is an epic love story, weaving together the lives of four people caught up in the turbulence of the Nigerian civil war. 'Half of a Yellow Sun' is set to strike a special chord with movie-goers nationwide.
Attending the VIP premiere will be the BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee,Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), accompanied by Nigeria’s jewel,Genevieve Nnaji, O. C. Ukeje and the doyenne of Nigerian entertainment,Onyeka Onwenu. The Film’s director Biyi Bandele, Producer Andrea Calderwood (The Last King of Scotland), Associate Producer Sandra Obiago, Executive Producers Yewande Sadiku and Muhtar Bakare and D’Banj, whose “Bother You” was inspired by the Film, are also expected at the star-studded premiere. Our very own Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the author of the international best seller, is scheduled to lead this cream of world-class talent.
The Film is directed by a Nigerian and based on a book written by a Nigerian about events that occurred in Nigeria. The bulk of the funding came from Nigeria, and the film was shot in Nigeria, with large numbers of Nigerian cast and crew. The success of the Film will require the support of all Nigerians, to ensure that many more projects that “tell our own stories” can access the required quantum of funding.
