Police have made the gruesome discovery of seven dead infants at the home of a Utah woman, who is believed to have killed them over a ten year period and left them in boxes in a garage.
The tragic find over the weekend, in a town of 35,000, was made by the woman’s estranged husband who was cleaning out the garage when he discovered one baby's body.
He called in local police officers who discovered the six others, in a house that used to be shared by the couple but now has been passed onto her husband.
The woman, Megan Huntsman, left the house in 2011 but lives nearby, the LA Times reports.
“We believe she birthed each baby and then killed it after it was born,” one senior officer told reporters.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s shocking” Pleasant Grove Captain, Michael Roberts told the LA Daily News.
Huntsman was taken into custody and a search warrant was served at her present residence, Roberts said.
The husband is not considered a person of interest because he was in prison for much of the time the babies were born and officers are conducting DNA tests to discover the parentage.
Meanwhile, Huntsman has been arrested on suspicion of seven cases of infanticide.
The site remains under guard and is still being searched by a team of 12 officers.
Officers said that more charges may be forthcoming, as the bodies are in different states of decomposition.
