Austin Dawkins (pictured) of Georgia got a real hot surprise, when he thought playing with a lighter as he was pumping gas in to his pickup was a funny stunt. Well, the not-so-funny act resulted in his wife, Jessica (pictured), becoming engulfed in flames and he getting placed in cuffs and charged with reckless conduct — and the entire disturbing scene was caught on video.
The 37-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife were at a gas station refueling his pickup on October 16th. Dawkins is seen on the video holding the nozzle while absentmindedly lowering his lighter right next to the gas pump being plugged in to his vehicle. Then suddenly, flames shoot out in all directions. Jessica is seen running away, but unfortunately, flames cling to her backside and she becomes engulfed in flames.
Dawkins is viewed on the video swiftly removing the gas pump away from his vehicle as to avoid an explosion. He is then seen chasing after his wife.
Watch the incident here:
Jessica, who reportedly received second- and third-degree burns to her head, back, arms, and legs, was flown to a hospital in Atlanta for treatment. Dawkins received minor injuries to his hand.
Police obtained an arrest warrant and cuffed Dawkins; he faces up to one year in prison and must pay a $1,000 fine.
